I've never seen another copy. This one was passed onto me second-hand and is kind of wrinkled (I might try to get it dry mounted and see if it can be made to look good), but contains the following Jewel poem. I haven't seen it posted here before, so here you go, with spacing and non-capitaization as printed: hommage to my home for the sweat of my father and the tough nails that broke his heart for the sun on our backs and the water on our brows the heat on our minds for the silent miles of dirt roads our eyes busy reading the signs (on the days we took the car) for bad meals turned good by hunger, everything beautiful in the red hot heat of our coal stove for an honest sleep in an old bed in an old house built of hand and log (had nothing been said all day?) - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- DAN STARK NEW E-MAIL ADDRESS danstark@mnsi.net NOW IN EFFECT! Well, being digested, it comes pretty close. I have finally gotten around to reading one of the digests from 10 June, and still have 27 more digests to go. It's difficult with a mobile one year old to get anything done. Oh, and I have been around since day one of the list. ;-) Someone else was enquiring about a Mac or Windows cassette J-card maker program. I've been using one called "Cassette Liner" that I found on either CICA (now winsite.com) or SimTel (now SimTel.net). The great thing about this program is that you do *not* need pre-cut, or pre-made J-cards. After entering everything in, it prints out the J-card with an outline to it, so you know where to cut. It's extremely flexible, and highly recommended. It's good to hear about "JewelStock". Since it obviously *won't* be in Omaha, I highly doubt I will be there. However, my best wishes are with Jewel in whatever she does (does anybody know she's in the latest TV Guide?), especially when it supports the list and her fans. I just want a copy of whatever medium it gets put on. I mentioned that I've been on since day one. The traffic here has gotten imense. So much so that I had to unsubscribe for a time since I was getting it at work - and getting a lot of flack. There seems to be lately a higher ratio of "signal to noise", and although I do wish it would stop - so we can talk more about Jewel - it does keep the list fresh. However, there are times when it reminds me of rdt - the first Tori list. So, on to reading the next 27 digests... I just found about Jewel last week, and I've still only heard one song, the cover of 'Sunhine Superman' on the Warhol soundtrack. I do have a story, though... I went over to a friend's house last week to watch Forrest Gump on video. I don't really like the movie, but nothing else was going on. Anyway, after the movie, the TV was set to VH1 but the volume was down. I said to my friend, "Who's that?" She said "Jewel." I was stricken. I thought she looked familiar. I graduated from high school with her. I didn't know her too well, talked to her maybe once or twice, but it was still quite a shock. The upshot is that four years later, she's a star, and I have a useless music degree and am unemployed. Ouch. I'm very, very glad that she's a success. She's a swell person. Bucci) Date: Wed, 19 Jun 1996 10:13:54 -0400 Subject: Save the Linoleum Found!! O.K. guys, here's the deal. I'm at work right now, I will buy the CD (if it's still there) after work. I need a fair way to distribute the CD. The only thing I can think of, is the person that can offer the best deal, giving me tapes and such of other concerts will get it. I don't think that it would be fair to the first person that got the message to me because they might have been at there computer. So, I'm willing to drop some money off of the $30 price of the CD for every tape of great quality that you can get me. The only tape I have is of the one at Penn State that turned out incredibly bad. I only paid a buck for that. I would say $3 would cover buying the tape and labor (dubbing the tape). That is $3 a tape, not $3 a concert. Don't put 3 25 minute concerts on 3 different tapes and think that will count as 3 tapes, you would put them all on one and then that would be about one tape. 60 minutes is the minimum amount of tape that will be considered a tape. O.K. everyone?? I'll give you all until Thursday to give me your offers. And don't flood me with tapes, I'll only accept at the very most 3, because I'm going to have to borrow the $30 for the CD in the first place, I don't have $30 for ten tapes. So 3 great quality tapes and a money order for $21, 2 great quality tapes and a money order for $24, or 1 great tape and a money order for $27, or finally a money order for $30. I would also need a self addresed stamped envelope, remember this is the CD and the "jewel" case. I'm not going to pay for the postage and envelope for you. I will if you add an additional $3 to the money order. I looked at the CD when I was there, no scratches on either the case or the CD. I hope this doesn't sound bad or something, I think this is a very fair way to do this. I don't think that it would be fair to you guys or Miss Kilcher if this CD was auctioned off, right?? I just want what everyone else here wants. Music by Jewel that is of great quality and to have the ability to spread it around to her fellow fans. I'll try to get back with you later today. So, let the offers start. If I here of a deal too good to pass up, this may end before Thursday, because my internet connection will end on Next Thursday. I'm working as a temp at a college about 20 minutes from home, and when my work here is done, there goes my on ramp to the internet. Any questions?? Email ajb187@email.psu.edu Thanks everyone. A.J. She was amazing!!!! She played the first half solo and then brought out her band. She told all kinds of goofy stories, barked like a dog, meowed like a cat, and did a wounderful impression of a fish. She did many different songs and few from the album, claiming that she was tired of playing those songs. The audience demanded 2 encores, "Who Will Save Your Soul" and her song about Nikos. And no, she did not yodel. I think you should have just worked something out with the first lucky person who responded (and no, it wasn't me, people!). There are no labour of love vibes here, just someone using what they've got to get as much as they can (remind anyone of the real world?). This sort of stuff is a real pet peeve of mine, probably why I'll never be successful. So now you all know something about me. Regarding the introductions thread, if you really care to know more about me, just read my posts. There's always a piece of me in each one. But just to give some basics, I'm only (or already, depending on your point of view) 24. It took me five years to graduate because I started as an electrical engineering major, then added biology. And no, I don't plan on doing anything that combines the two. I've been working as a research assistant in a biology lab here at UMich since I graduated last year, and I'm getting restless (bored) for another change in direction (art, movies, music, TV?) I don't know. If there are any burning questions left unanswered (yeah, right), just email me personally. I won't bite. Oops, lunch is over. Better get back to work. Aaron On Wed, 19 Jun 1996, A.J.
