I don't think this will work very well. I know at least on couple here has a daughter who just absolutely loves Jewel. Yes, there should be some sort of limit, but I don't think that limit can possibly be one. Otherwise, very few people may be willing to come or even able to come in the case of a 15 year old that must bring a friend who can drive. This is Jewel's way of showing appreciation for us, the listers. I don't think she would mind at all if we bring guests which will accomplish a few things. One, more of us can attend. Two, we will be turning our friends on to Jewel. And three, it would be more fun for everyone to have at least one (maybe more) person we actually know there with them. I can then send the compiled list to the Jewel mailing list, and people can see who to contact in their area. Hey all! With all the discussion going on over Jewelstock, I felt compelled to add my own two cents. Now, I am brand new to the list, and perhaps that is my biggest reason for writing. I wanted to comment on the idea of limiting this show to those on the list at this precise time. I for one do not think that it is a good idea. I understand concerns are over this thing getting out of hand and ensuring that true Jewel fans are those that receive the benefits of this show. So then, people are worried about a huge influx to the list.....but someone else made a good point: if it has only been announced on the list and we don't spread the word around randomly, it shouldn't be a problem. The list is not advertised in the cd jacket, and it's not one of the .alt newsgroups, so to get here you have to be looking for Jewel-related stuff and go to some effort to find it/us. Plus, think about the flipside. Consider if some die-hard Jewel fan gets computer access for the first time or simply didn't know a Jewel list existed until just recently (like myself). This person subscribes and hears all this talk about this unbelievable "show for the fans" and wants to know how he/she can get involved and is told "sorry you subscribed a day too late". I would imagine that this person would feel very alienated, and likely be turned off to the list and possibly even turned off to Jewel's music. I know that this is not the intention of the 'limiting', but I'm afraid it would become a sad consequence of it... Don't get me wrong, I am excited as all hell about this, especially since I live a short hop away in Binghamton, NY =), but I really think that we should trust that people who come looking for this list to sign-on truly love Jewel's music as much as we do, and rely on our own integrity not to go blabbing it around... I guess *I* made the cut, but think about if were you the one who came in a day late.... Peace, Rob ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V1 #253 ***************************
