The local rock station here has been playing WWSYS for about two weeks now. But, other than saying it was by the new artist Jewel, they weren't giving out any info on her. So... I called the DJ today and talked a little about her, asking if their demo had YWMFM on it (no, it's a single), urged them to get more and play it, and told them their were web pages and a mailing list. Back on the air, the DJ actually started talking about Jewel (Alaska, van, coffee houses), mentioned how Atlantic Records has been real good in waiting for her popularity to grow, mentioned me, the web sites and the mailing list. Anyway, it was real good to get this on air around here. Maybe it will spark some more interest. By creating a disturbance and shouting over Jewel, she deprives the audience of a remarkable, often highly personal experience. We fans get together to anticipate Jewel before the concert, share her beautiful voice, wit and lyrics during the concert, and congratulate each other for having been there to have enjoyed it as a group. ANNOYING, DRUNKEN and being described as one who "CONSTANTLY YELLS" are not complimentary descriptions. ANY groupie who follows an artist, only to harrass the artist and her true fans, should get a real life and respect his or her fellow fans. Don't get me wrong, if this woman ever walks up to me sober at a Jewel show, and wants to dance and jam to the music without abusing others, I will take her hand, buy her a non-alcoholic drink and share the experience with her gladly. I've done stupid stuff in my life, as most of us have. If the lady in question reads this, lay off the alcohol and seek out other Jewel fans at the next concert. Drunk is not the optimal state in which to appreciate Jewel. Save that for frat parties and other mundane events. But that's just one fan's opinion. Thanks for the listen, and I apologize if I have offended anyone. I'm getting married in a couple of weeks, and I'm not sure where I'm going to be after that, or when I'll have internet connectivity again. So I obviously can't be much help to Innerchange seekers. As soon as I can find someone to take over I'd like to make the switch, I'm kind of busy right now. The job doesn't actually even require making copies, or making more copies if you're currently one of the dubbing sites. What I do, is receive all the messages from people looking for the Innerchange Days tapes. And then I forward the messages to one of the dubbing sites. I just go through the list, and when I reach the end I go back and start sending from the top again. It helps to have good mail software I would imagine. I use Pegasus, and it keeps a list of recently-used addresses, so I just click on the dubbing site that was least-recently used. Of course the job also demands that you have continual email access, and that you check your mail fairly regularly. You can choose how many of the inquiries you want to answer personally, if any. It's not too tough of a task. Whoever gets the job will get my list of dubbing sites, so you can talk to them about how to do things. And I guess we'd put your name in the FAQ instead of mine, and all of a sudden you'll start getting some emails. The volume changes, this morning I had 5, but I hadn't checked my email for several days. When someone mentions the tapes on the list, the volume of requests goes up. Please contact me if you are interested. And if no one is interested, I don't know what we'll do. thanks... ---------K e n---------- <> walden@nh.ultranet.com http://www.nh.ultranet.com/~wink/ "You must live as you think, or sooner or later you will think as you live." ------------------------------ From: "Ken Winchenbach" Date: Wed, 29 May 1996 18:05:53 +0000 Subject: Re: Yippy Yippy Yay Yay > got my interchange tapes today! > mucho mucho gracias Dave and the if it wasn't you the person (people) who > recorded > ooohh ooohh new fav. Also I just happen to go the University of FLorida. I also was at the concert, unfortunately by myself. I had 2 friends back out of the extra ticket I had so I ended up selling it to some guy in line. Little did I know that there were still tickets on sale at the door. PHew! I was almost stuck with it. The drive to orlando was fun but uneventful. I swear I hate toll roads. I always try to avoid taking the Florida Turnpike. All you floridians will know what I mean. I arrived and parked at about 8 and got to the club at Firestone at 20 after, waited 40 minutes inline till i got to the door and then another 20 minutes for Duncan Shiek to come out. BTW I got the VERY LAST promo cassingle. I couldn't believe my luck with arriveing so late. Duncan's set was ok, he did sound like Toad like everyone else is saying. Jewel didn't come out on Duncan's last song as she has in other places. I was kinda disappointed about that but Oh Well. In another strange coincidence the club was playing Toad's first album between Jewel and Duncan's sets. To the ppl who were there I was the one holding up a sign written on a shoebox cover standing to the left of the stage about 8 feet back. The sign said "Everyday Angels" in big block letters and then in smaller letters "are you on the list? Happy Belated Birthday Jewel!!" I waved it at everyone in line as I walked towards the end but unfortunately all I got was weird looks. The sign did get some new subscribers though. I talked with a couple of ppl after the show while we were waiting for jewel to come out and told them how to subscribe. But more about that later. Jewel was fantastic as jenn says in this message. Here's the setlist in order Little Sister Kiss Don't YWMFM (with the Federales story) Near You Always Cold Song My Own Private Gods Gift to Women Deep Water - --She brought out the band at this point Pieces of You Daddy Love Me Just Leave Me Alone Racecar driver (rocked with the band, I love this version) Rocker Girl (rocked also :) Foolish Games (another awesome version) Carnivore(you know the rest Don't trust...) Morning Song - --The band left here Fat Boy (Fragile Flame??) Angel Standing By - --Encores WWSYS (w/ band) Amen Chime Bells Ring I must say I loved the band very much. They changes were really great to me on everything they played especially Foolish Games, Rocker Girl, and RaceCar Driver. This was the first time I heard Love Me Just Leave Me Alone and I loved it. The whole concert was awesome. I could go on about the songs for pages and pages but I won't :). I was annoyed by ppl constantly asking for the "yodelling song" between her songs. She patiently told them she would later. I really wanted her to tell them she wouldn't. When she actually played it at the end she didn't look like she was enjoying herself at all. At least not to me. I'll stop here :) Let me mention that I did tape the show, however it is pretty grainy throughout. Personally I think as soon as you get past that it's very listenable but I think only die hard fans and ppl who were there will want it. I'll get a second opinion from Jenn later as I'm sure she'll want a copy of it hehe (right jenn?) The concert was well worth the money and time. I hope you all enjoy your shows too. > The Jewel concert in Orlando was truly AMAZING!!! She has an incredible voice > that sounds even better in person. I love the way she interacted (or tried > to- the audience loved her, but I got the feeling they were shy or quiet- Yes she did try to interact with the audience but I think it was hard for her. I could hear the ppl in the back talking between songs and I was just waiting for her to tell them to be quiet, but it never came. I think she was real tired. > something just wasn't right).
