For those of you in the Cincinnati area who missed it the first time around, The Wizard of Oz stage production (yes the one with Jewel) is re-airing on WCET channel 48. Unfortunately a lot of you might not read this in time, The air time is 9:30pm Sunday (yes tomorrow). Hey! Sorry 'bout the short notice. I just found out last night myself. Hopefully it's not one of those shows they interupt with pledge beggings. I plan to tape it and don't want all those breaks in it. I just purchased the album "Pieces of You" yesterday and was so moved by the music and lyrics of Jewel that I had to fing outmore about her. I figured the web was agood start. Now that I'll satisfied my thirst for knowledge about the is beautiful and talented singer-songwriter, I'm curious as to who else enjoys her music. I'm a 19 year-old college student from Topsfield MA. I fist herd Jewel on VH1's CrossRoads. I'm a theatre arts major and am also interested in all types of music. My other tastes include everything from AC/DC to Bob Dylan. Some of my current interests include: The JayHawks, Golden Smog, Soul Asylum, Neil Young, Johnathan Richman (!!!), The Black Crowes, Alice in Chains, Steely Dan, The Allman Brothers, Victoria (not Vanessa) Williams, Liz Phair, Joan Osborne, Otis Redding, The For Tops, Paul Simon, Pete Townsend with and without the Who, Frank Zappa, Z, Del Amitri, Croweded House, and a whole bunch of others. Like I said, I'm just curious to know where the the interests of other Jewel fans lie at. Feel free, but not obligated, to respond. Seeing her FREE on the beach, sitting in the sand, as the sun goes down. I just got back from one of the better days of my life and the best of my Jewel fandom. I was seemingly the first to arrive at the beach around three today to watch them set up the stage. Jewel came out of her bus around four in a bikini and did a soundcheck playing mostly guitar and then singing only for a few minutes. Afterward, she signed an autograph for me and took a photo. We were able to talk for a minute and she is very nice in person but seems kind of shy and quiet. She asked how the water was and said lets go swimming!! Then, like a complete unknown, she strolled across the beach (with her boyfriend. . . If she was gay, their kissing was a good performance.), placed a towel down and went swimming. I left her alone and hoped anyone else would do the same. I was then quietly amused as fans arrived, hanging around the trailer and stage, waiting for her come out and show herself while she was straight out on the beach blending in with all the other gorgeous blondes in Clearwater Beach. An hour and a half later, around 6 with many fans sprawled about on the beach before the stage, I watched a soaked Jewel in her bikini and towel, walk right by the front of the stage like any ordinary beachgoer. She smiled at me, as I did, because no one seemed to react at all or know it was her until after she was out of sight. I walked around to her bus where she was posing for photos. I was somewhat amazed that she would put her arm around me and allow the photo of her in a bikini. I figured she'd go right in and want to make herself more "presentable". Not so from this down to Earth Alaskan Jewel. As the last few songs strummed from Duncan Sheik across the beach with the setting sunlight sky, Jewel was on stage behind the speakers. . . dancing with a watermelon. Yes, she had a half of water melon hugged in her arms like a oversized baby, spooning its guts out and dancing. She is a great entertainer as the show proved. She played for about an hour with one encore of WWSYS and Bells. She was sweating profusely in the heat but still put on an energized show with three "Brand New Songs" and funny stories included. She was surprised by the crowd. I couldn't even guess on the number with a sea of people as far as the eye could see on the beach. Front and behind the stage. I shot a roll of film and plan on putting some of the pics on the Web site I'm building. What a day and it ends with an encore of Jewel's "DUETS" performance on VH1 and Tori on SNL tonight.
