I know it's weird, but I think Jewel could make that song a hit again. Any thoughts, especially from those old enough to remember the song (like me). I'm not in the business, but from what I understand Nashville is a great place to record no matter what style your music. There is an abundance of studios and excellent musicians. So, Jewel's recording there may have nothing to do with a style change. Chopped Liver Predicts: This is silly but I have to express it. I think that Jewel's next CD will be MONSTER (mad phat, for the younger generation). And by this time next year, SHE will be monster. I have no doubts we'll see her on the Grammy's. No longer is she performing at the Sapphire Supper Club but instead at a place called The Club at Firestone. The rep told me that the new venue is honoring all tix from The Sap and that I could get a refund if I'm not happy with the change. He also said that nothing else has changed. Doors still open at 8 and Jewel will still come on I guess when she comes on :). Well I still need to find out where the venue is even if it has changed. They rep tried to give me directions but I just waved him off. He said it was on Orange Avenue if that means anything to you orlandoers. Oh yeah I also got my copy of Rare Angels from Tom Proven 2 days ago I think. I haven't listenned to it yet unfortunately. Been too busy but I'm so psyched to be seeing jewel in Orlando. If I remember right Madonna made it a hit a again a couple years ago. So maybe it's not so weird. OK, Jewel would do a much better job of it, Jewel is much better looking than Madonna (sorry, Brett attack), and Jewel's voice is simply way better than Madonna's. First off, "House of the Rising Sun" was written by Bob Dylan, it's off his first self titled album, but the most famous version is by he Animals, kinda like "Blinded By The Light", a song from Bruce Springsteen's first album that everyone one knows from Mannfred Mann. Anyway, listened to the concert over the realaudio thing and I was, unlike most of the responses I have heard, not all that impressed. Yeah, the sound sucked and that prob'ly had a lot to do with it but in my opinion the setlist was really weak. Aside from Foolish Games and Amen and maybe Summertime it was blah. Where are Sometimes It Be That Way, Race Car Driver, and God Gift to Women, three songs that are better than just about anything off PoY and would be great with a band and have been based on other people's reviews. And now that she is headlining, why are the shows so short? There's no one waiting in the wings like Bob Dylan after she's done, put in a two hour show,at least two hours. I'm going to see Jewel at the Tradewinds in Sea Bright NJ on Tuesday, I hope she puts on a better show than sh did last night. And I am praying that the new album bombs in terms of record sales but is critcally acclaimed. She's already too popular too soon, we should want her to have a slow and steady rise to fame, remember what happened in the Tortoise and the Hare? Anyway, I guess that's all. Later kids. Sean Hooks ------------------------------ From: j.mullins1@genie.com Date: Fri, 17 May 96 22:05:00 UTC 0000 Subject: Irving Plaza show Well, it's already been said for the most part, with set lists and all, but let me say it was even more impressive than the last show I saw! She really blew me away... Jewel came out to sing a duet with Duncan Sheik (whom I liked, sorta part Oasis and part Toad the Wet Sprocket) on his last song, though you could barely hear her until the end...she was wearing all black and looked We got to meet a few of you on the list...Linus and SilverKat and a few others...nice to see all of you guys. After the show, Eric and I arrived at the F-Stop in time to see Jewel walk in with a bunch of people...her mom included...They presented her with the Gold Record of POY and posed for tons of pictures. Me, always thinking on my toes, forgot to bring a camera. And I was ten feet away from her this whole time! I went over later and congratulated her on the Gold Record, and she signed my CD. I also gave her a CD to listen to and was lucky enough to get to kiss her on the cheek...it was a great way to start my birthday! Jewel was really nice but kinda shy...I don't know if that's becaus eshe'd had a busy day or if I frightened her :) or whatever. We also spoke to her mom for a while and she was very nice...everything happened so fast and I'm really kicking myself for not bringing a camera. Anyway check out VH1 today there may be something about last night on it. You may even see Eric or me! (Not that you know what we look like, but...) :) I believe that Jewel's mom said that on Monday Jewel will be on TV...was it House of Style on VH1? I think that was it. And apparently she might've been on the Today show this AM...too late now, I know, but I do ned sleep, you know... :) Sorry for rambling...
