Jeff ------------------------------ From: jtenany@ix.netcom.com (Mark Jason Enany ) Date: Tue, 30 Apr 1996 23:44:05 -0700 Subject: introduction Hi! My name is Jason, and I have been reading the list for about two months now, and felt it was finally about time to intro- duce myself. I first discovered Jewel after seeing the YWMFM video on 120 minutes last November. I fell in love, bought the CD the next day, and well, haven't been the same since... I've seen Jewel live once, at the Coach House in San Clemente, CA, along with Edwin MCCain in February, and am going Saturday to her show in L.A. I cannot wait. I've only heard the POY CD, and Save The Linoleum, which I found in a used CD bin at the Wherehouse. I picked up the "Craft" soundtrack today, and must say "Under The Water" is quite a departure. I like it, even though it was a bit jarring at first. I hope though that dance music isn't a permanent direction. (Hightly doubtful) Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself, and now that I have, I hope to enjoy what the future holds for Jewel and those who love her music... -Jason ------------------------------ From: Jenkintown is very boring Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 07:28:50 -0400 Subject: message maxlength I don't notice many extra-long 10 page posts to this list. Wouldn't setting the message maxlength for this list so something around 10000 cut the magazine spam while allowing regular posting to go through? Normally you'd have to filter the spam based on content, but the magazine one is just so goddamned long that you'd think a message-size screen would kill it. Jason ------------------------------ From: Hiranya@aol.com Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 09:50:58 -0400 Subject: Re: Another new song! A quick note--Jewel wrote the words and melody to the Craft song 'Under the Water'. Ralph Sall was credited with the music because the production of the song (which he did) was very important to how it turned out musically. I think the lyrics to this song are dynamite. Jewel said she really enjoyd the experience, though its not a direction she plans to head in, and the neat thing about doing soundtracks is that she gets to play around outside of her own style without having to leave her style for a whole CD. Bye, Hiranya ------------------------------ From: Hiranya@aol.com Date: Wed, 1 May 1996 09:51:01 -0400 Subject: Jewel and the three d's They arent really called the three d's, I just said it cuz their names are Danny, Don, and DC. Jewel's band is in rehearsal with her and she's excited because its coming together well. She only had one day off from the Dylan tour and then went to LA for press and then began with the band. She was nervous cuz theres only 4-5 days to work with them before the first show in SF, but it looks like it will come together. She will have drums, bass guitar (with stand up bass on a song or two maybe), keyboards, and Jewel on her guitar. The drummer is Danny Frankle, and the bassist is Don Falzone. They have played together a lot over the past 4 years including, I think, Dave Albin (do I have that name right?), Victoria Williams, Tom Waits, Sid Straw, and a bunch I cant remember including some rockers. The keyboardist goes by DC but Ive forgotten his last name! I'll get back to you. I hope you enjoy it!!!!! " When Angels Cry" Saddened look has just turned grey, Escaping from heaven's gate... Smile upon his face , a grin upon his heart Wet under his eyes, but still head held up high. I saw an angel flying off, Love he can't stand anymore... Trembling figures , uncomfortable eyes suspicious minds of a saints death and a misplaced tear. Trapped in the corner of an unlighted cell Violent nightmares of his transfigured heart and flesh. A thousand eyes were set on his filthy broken wings Wishing he knew when his faith went flying away... Another child's dream broken... Another false icon taken as a token. "Angels don't cry " - an obscure figure said. Falling but no one helps me stay awake angry but you turn your back away. Lost inside a black and white night ,... Dommed in black - pardonned in white. "Lonely creature"- the angel said A translucid but opaque tear was all that my heart woulkd yield. Two pale lips and a humid gust of wind... "Sweet Child"- the angel said. "Don't you know that when angels cry means that somebody has left them behind"... Jewel's May 16th concert in NYC will be broadcast over the internet. I forget the URL for this, but it you can find it by going to Atlantic record's homepage. It will be broadcast in Atlantic's "Digital Arena." You need Real Audio 2.0 to listen to it. To make a tape copy of it, plug a CD line-in cord into your computer's headphone outlet, and the other end into your stereo (make sure the volume on the computer isn't too high, or it will distort the copy). It looks like some of you who are feeling :-( because Jewel won't be performing in a town near you might be able to catch her show on the Net. That is if your computer is audio-ready. BTW, mine's not, but I might just have to make a trip to Comp U.S.A. in the next week or so (hmmm...does that qualify me for Sinjin's "obsessed" list?). Anyway, a press release from Atlantic Records dated April 23 reads: "On May 16th, Atlantic Records will present a live Internet broadcast of the Jewel/Duncan Sheik New York City show, in its entirety, from Irving Plaza. The Net event--similar to the broadcast of the Seven Mary Three/Poe show from the same venue in March--will combine a real-time broadcast via RealAudio 2.0 technology with continuously updated digital images and downloadable video shot by digital photographer/Cyber 24 photojournalist Frank Micelotta. The event will also include live chats with the artists, special updates, and in-the-crowd reports from Atlantic's on the scene correspondents. The broadcast can be accessed at the Atlantic Website (http://www.atlantic.records.com)."
