Anyway, I'd love some bootlegs if anyone would like to dub me some. I would like some live concerts and pretty good quality, because I know i'm gonna play it alot. I only have POY, the VH1 special, the last song on the Melissa Etherige (however you spell her name) and the Letterman show, but I don't have a second VCR to tape it just yet. But I'd be willing to send a blank tape and all the shipping costs if someone would like to be a kind angel. Email me personally rkantrow@phoenix.kent.edu before 5/10 the last day of school. Thanks angels for standing by. P.S. I can dub the VCR to a normal audio tape if someone was interested, but I don't think the quality is too bad. - -- . . . . . . . . . . . . Well, direct off the tape she did "who will save yooooooooooooooooooooooo- oooooooooooooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuur soooouuuuls", with the "your" clocking in at about 11.50 seconds. Didn't flich, hitch, waiver, catch a breath....nothing. Just cruised into "souls" and ended. A real stunner!! I've been on vacation the last few days. In Orlando actually. Alas alack, I didnt know of the Jewel date there before I left. S'okay since I just got my ticket for her Paradise show here in Boston, May 18. Anyone else going, let's hook up before hand maybe. I happened to see Jewel on Letterman Monday night and was impressed by her performance. I didnt think it was rushed. In fact, I thought it was one of the better renditions of the song I have heard. Dave obviously didnt know who she was but at least he had her sitting in the chair at the end and complimented her, which is saying something. I thought the audience certainly knew her and liked her, and holding the notes as long as she did really earned her a few converts I think. Peace, Kathleen ------------------------------ From: "jeffrey hanson" Date: Wed, 24 Apr 96 11:44:52 cdt Subject: Jewel and a Band and other reminesces from an old-timer As one of the apparently few on the list who has seen Jewel perform live with a band (namely the Rugburns at her CD Release Party), I'm really looking forward to seeing this tour with a band. As Neile pointed out, when she's not playing her guitar, she can really concentrate on her singing and her voice is even more spectacular. Plus you get to see her dance around more. One of my all-time favorite Jewel performances is seeing her perform Daddy She's a Goddess with Steve Poltz, Steve playing her guitar, and Rob Driscoll of the Rugburns playing rhythem guitar with Jewel in the middle. I believe this is the version that's on the Innerchange Days tape. It was a whole lot of fun. I'm glad to see the list has toned down the hostility a little. Sorry I haven't been posting much lately, but then I haven't had much to add since I don't hardly ever get to see her anymore. I do miss the days when I could see her perform weekly. As for her appearance on Lettermen, it's hard to believe how glamorous she's become. She's always looked incredible, but when she used to play at the Innerchange she usually wore no makeup, and her hair wasn't in such a chic hairstyle--nor did she ever wear a miniskirt. I have seen her wear a couple of dresses--but usually long skirts. She did used to have a really killer suede vest that she would wear with apparently nothing underneath. It kind of tied together in the front with a leather cord. She always looked incredibly, ruggedly healthy too--lately she's started to look paler--but that's probably from being on the road, rather than on the beach in San Diego--or it may just be the lighting. As for "the industry" changing Jewel's style--yeah, there definitely has been some stylistic changes. Some of the changes came early on, when Jewel first signed she really began to improve her enunciation of her lyrics--to the point where she really had to slow down some of the songs. This made some of the lyrics more understandable, but took away some of the unique Rickie-Lee Jones-like style in some of the songs. But many changes have been for the better. Her story telling has improved to be concise entertaining bits between songs rather than 5 minute rambles. Her tuning between songs has really decreased in time--perhaps that's why the stories have as well. She used to have to talk about something between songs or there would be 5 minutes of "dead air" between songs. But the biggest change obviously has been her choice of material. The thing I miss most are Jewel's poem songs, none of which appeared on the album, and are almost unheard of in concert anymore. It just doesn't seem like she feels comfortable singing them in clubs and bars--perhaps they're just more suited to coffee house gigs. But I really miss hearing songs like His Pleasure is My Pain and Wild Horse (The Poem Song) live. Wild Horse was absolutely incredible live--she would get so into the performance, her body practically writhing with longing. Hey Hiranya, see if you can tell her to play that song when she comes to Minneapolis. It would certainly make my day! Well, enough reminiscing. It's been so great to be a witness to Jewel's rise in success. I really have never seen anyone as deserving. Jeff Hanson ------------------------------ From: "Mary K. But it's her song & she can play it how she wants, or maybe they told her to speed it up or they'd have to cut it off. (The Letterman people, that is.) I thought she did an outstanding job. The short skirt was distracting (even for me, who does NOT goggle over her). However, I liked the change in lyrics & I think it was a good impression for those who saw her for the first time. peace, kathleen ------------------------------ From: "Mary K. I was wondering myself if he was offended that she did not want him to play, but to me that shows that maybe she won't be "commercialized" and do what everyone wants her to do or the "cool" thing to do. She obviously keeps creative control of her material. ------------------------------ From: "Mary K.
