Imagine my surprise when I realized the song was on POY!!! Me, a full-fledged, over-the-edge Jewel fan, and I didn't realize it was on the album! I felt really silly :) But I never got to really hear the whole CD properly...I was so bowled over by the first three tracks that I listened to them a lot, and then I saw her live, and went straight to getting live tapes...plus my free time is sparse so I never did get to absorb the CD like I had intended to...so I plead 'not guilty' :) Any NYC area Angels want to meet before th IP show on 5-16? I want to be there in the afternoon and hang out, personally...when's the best time to get to say hello to Jewel? What should I bring her? I want to give her something she can appreciate...thanks! And lastly, although it may be a tired subject, I'm not so sure I would've booted Brett off the list. Yes, he was obnoxious and a troublemaker, but (and Old Black can vouch for this, too) on the Neil Young list there have been newcomers who at frst rubbed everyone the wrong way and got flamed often and came off as snotty, etc. But soon they realized we weren't having any of it and they cooled off and fit in well...they actually contribute to the list in a positive manner now! So maybe, just maybe, we should have given Brett a chance or two to get it together. I'm *not* judging anyone here, but merely offering food for thought. You never know if the next person to join the list is going to be one of the most helpful and resourceful people, and you can't tell that in a couple of weeks, especially when in the midst of a flame war... Dear Angels, My parents just came out to Ohio with the yearbooks from Interlochen, as well as a graduation video from '92. Just out of curiousity, I fast-forwarded through it to see if Jewel getting her diploma would be anything worth seeing... and it surely was!!! She had a shuffle step going on, wearing cowboy boots and grabbing the diploma out of the principal's clutches. It's mildly amusing, and I was wondering if I could get it onto the video compilation. Whoever is compiling everything for that tree could just send me an address, and I could send out a copy of the tiny bit. In our senior yearbook, Jewel's address is c/o someone named Atz, so maybe that's how her brother's name is spelled... I now have the two yearbooks, and will be sending out the pictures both to Jewel's mom AND to a Jewel homepage, so keep your eyes open for new images in a photo gallery near you!!! Jewel was absolutely incredible. I can't wait to see her again in May. I feel complete now that I've seen her. I didn't get to meet her because I got around back just as she was leaving, but I did get there in time to snap a couple pictures. I got one of her sitting in her car about to drive away and she looked right at me and shot a HUGE smile. God she's beautiful. Well, I know I'll meet her at the show in May because it's a much smaller venue, much more intimate!! I hope all of you who went enjoyed the show as much as I did and I hope to see you all at Sapphire Supper Club in May. Sandy ps....i thought my heart was going to pound right out of my chest when she finally yodeled. It was breathtaking. Someone called out of the audience after her second song for her to yodel and she said no because then everyone would leave so she was saving it til the end. (smart girl) Some of the unreleased stuff included The Cold Song (or whatever it's called), Sometimes it be that way, Nikos and Kiss your ass. Can't wait for her next album!!! ------------------------------ From: "Frank Provost (MCOM)" Date: Mon, 22 Apr 1996 14:48:55 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Another Jewel song On the soundtrack to I Shot Andy Warhol, Jewel does a cover of Sunshine Superman. I got up to the concert at 5:45 pm and just as i got there, i bumped into Jewel. She was just walking around, signing a few autographs... no one was really paying attention to her. I got her autograph... She had on shiny purple pants and a shiny black top. She looked really pretty... by the way, i am 5'2" and she could not have been more than 1-2 inches taller than me. Anyway the show began... Pieces of You (with the bob dole leaving the earth thing) Kiss You Ass Little Sister (by request) Rocker Girl Catch a cold Moring Song Sometimes it be that way (my request) Race Car Driver The Circle Song (Marijuana Story) You Were Meant for me My Own Private God's Gift to Women (With story about pervert who inspired the song) Fragile Flame (with story about boy back in Homer) Near You always Daddy (by request) (I requested Angel Needs a Ride at this point.. she pointed at me and asked "How do you know that song?" I told her about the mailing list and the "bootleg" and she smiled. She didnt play it though) Angel Standing By I'm Sensitive Who Will Save Your Soul Chime Bells (requested earlier, but she waited until the end) She played with her beautiful blue guitar.... she spoke to the audience alot, about Letterman and Dylan. The crowd really seemed to like her... a lot of people sang along to PoY songs, and a there were a few people who even knew the other songs. I took about 12 pictures of her onstage... After the show she got mobbed... i wound up meeting some new people and together we waited for Jewel to come back out... When she finally did, we all got to take a picture with her... she was very sweet. Then her and her brother ran into the crowd on the lawn and had some fun dancing around. I lost her then and decided to head home. I have the show taped, but the quality isnt that good. I dont have the equipment (nor the time with finals next week) to make 50 copies, so if alot of people want a copy.. maybe someone else can take responsibility for being a dubbing site. There was a big b/w photo of Jewel in the paper today along with a brief review. The author seemed to really like her. Well, I guess thats about it... if anyone has any more questions please feel free to email me privately. =) Vanessa ------------------------------ From: "Tom O'Brien" Date: Mon, 22 Apr 1996 15:10:06 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Wiz of Oz CD phone#? After listening to 'Morning Wood' album, I have noticed that certain songs and lyrics of the Rugburns are similar to those of Jewel. I also remeber jewel once stating that Steve is a very talented song writer and she has learned a lot about writing lyrics from him. A few examples: Camaro's: Mentioned in Race Car Driver and another song (on Innerchange) that I cannot remember. The same model of car is also mentioned in a Rugburns song, i believe it is 'Gold's Gym Guy' I'm sensitive beat: The guitar beat in I'm Sensitive sounds almost identical to the Ruigburns song #3 on Morning Wood. The one about being 'famous, then we'll get married.' (A reference to Poltz & kilcher? Maybe) Hitchiker's: Jewel's story about her boyfriend who scared her about hitchiker's by showing her some TV show or something is very similar to the Hitchhiker Joe by the Rugburns. Coincidence? I think not. Just my observations. Any comments are appreciated. Either too the list or if you prefer to personal email. - -Christian Sinclair csinclai@sdcc13.ucsd.edu p.s. Today I went to HMV, Sam the Record Man, Lichtman's Books and The Worls's Biggest Bookstore. All of them said that they did not get the Apr. 20 issue, and were not expecting it. The figure that the next shipment they get will be the April 27 issue. If anyone knows a place in Toronto where it can be found, please e-mail me privately. Otherwise, perhaps someone who has it could scan the Jewel article, and mail it, or post it to the Jewel Homepage. It is nice to see that more and more people are buying her album.
