I was impressed by the boots; hopefully she'll wear them for good luck on opening night. I was disappointed that MTV didn't play Jewel's other video (after showing "WWSYS" the night before), but perhaps VH1 has the exclusive rights to that one. I was happy to finally experience Marilyn Manson's "Sweet Dreams" video: after seeing him open for Nine Inch Nails about 16 months ago, I can tell you this about Mr./Mrs. Manson: HE REALLY IS THAT SCARY. Tracy Bonham and Cracker again? MTV is a bit eager to support these two, isn't it? Regarding Jewel's brother, I have conclusive evidence that I may be going blind: I thought the two looked nothing alike, while a girl I watched the show with said they could be twins. What was the brother's name? Otts? Otts Kilcher? Sounds good to me! It's a far better name than what I was saddled with. I have so many r's in my full name (Carter Garr Navarro: English German Spanish - 80% of my ancestry is contained in that moniker) that people think I'm imitating a pirate when I introduce myself: "Hi, my name is arr, arr, AAARRR!!! Give me yer treasurrrrre!" Boise, Idaho, is Jewel's new favorite town? Who could've guessed THAT one? Well, the state *could* use some good PR after housing the likes of Randy Weaver and Mark Fuhrman. - --- Carter "It's Gotta Be the Shoes" Navarro ------------------------------ From: Crunch Date: Sat, 20 Apr 1996 01:47:30 -0400 Subject: back issues i need back issues of the Jewel-Digest. i need #137 thru #149. if you have ALL these, please let me know. do not, i repeat, do not send them. if that happens i would probably end up 6 copies of all 12 issues (it's happened before!) just mail me that you have them, and when i get them, i'll post the list again. thank you, everyone, in advance!!! Ron, I think they meant the live "You Were Meant for Me" video that was taped when she did the Crossroads special. (That's why VH1 has sole rights) Not sure of the Crossroads part, but quite sure of the "You Were Meant For Me" part. If you saw the "Hello, My Name Name is Jewel" 3 minute thing on VH1 where she yodels & they show a map of Alaska etc. they also show quick footage of the other video, she's on a stage with mags & books all around or something like that. Pretentious rambling courtesy of yours truly follows . . . Tom Proven wrote: > The Ghost of Brett haunts us all, it seems. Thinking about recent discussions of Mr. Eskin (including my own fear of metamorphosis), I realized with a little sadness that we seem a bit wary of complimenting Jewel's appearance. Has Jewel been told she's cute, pretty, and/or beautiful (I prefer "stunning") so many times that such appreciation is now a bummer to her? I wouldn't be surprised by the former, but I would be genuinely distressed if the latter were true. Naturally, should I ever run into Jewel again I shall avoid yelping "Gee, you surrre are purty, Miss Kilcher!" (I didn't say ANYTHING the first time). But if a friend shows you a photograph of him or herself that is especially flattering, don't you tell them so? If your friend is dressed especially nicely on Tuesday, don't you let them know before Tuesday is over? Such polite behavior presents a bit of a problem with Jewel since I have yet to see a photograph of her or a fashion ensemble on her that isn't worthy of compliments. The fact that I want to cry every time I see Miss Kilcher has so far proven an effective deterrent to saying anything overly inappropriate (OR appropriate, for that matter). Of course, many people take such observations (i.e., beauty, dress) too far. I have seen few such transgressions on this list, but some individuals may shrink into boorishness or ignore her phenomenal talents in favor of obsessing over her genetic luck and excellent personal hygiene (hey, THERE'S a new pick-up line: "You know, you have the best personal hygiene of anyone in this bar."). People doing hit-n-runs on this list spewing crud like "Jewel is HOT" and nothing else should certainly be ignored. But please don't feel like you must refrain from saying how nice Jewel looked at a concert or on TV or how wonderful some magazine photographs of her were. I'm sure Jewel WANTS to look good, and would be happy to know we think so. Only human nightmares like Marilyn Manson try otherwise . . . . . . THAT IS THE WORST OVERREACTION I HAVE EVER HAD TO ANYTHING. Still, it sounds so good I can't let it languish outside of the Outbox. So there you go. Now, off the soap box and into the frying pan . . . Here's some stuff Hiranya sent: > While in Alaska J and her mom, Lenedra, measured at the high school. > They were both exactly 5 feet five and three quarters inches. Damn! Off by 3/4 inches! Do I get a consolation prize? And here's some more: > Jewel has been offered two shows with Sting > Jewel will be interviewed by CNN on the day of her LA show > Rolling Stone mag is doing a small piece on Jewel > Jewel charted on AAA (triple A, or alternative) radio today Yep, it's gonna be the "Last Chance to See Me Before I'm More Famous Than Alanis Morissette" tour. Break out yer hankies, folks, cause you're about to lose Jewel to the rest of the world. I won't include myself in your loss, since I'm merely riding the crest of that tidal wave you see coming. - --- Carter "My Misuse of Time Knows No Bounds" Navarro ------------------------------ From: Mike Connell Date: Sat, 20 Apr 1996 02:42:01 -0400 Subject: Duh!!! About the Dylan show, As I recall she walked out on stage in the middle of the song, there was loud response from the crowd. She sang the second to last set of lyrics alone, then Dylan leaned into the microphone and sang the "I shall be released" refrain with her. She and Dylan alternated verses of the last set of lyrics and then sang together for the final refrain. When the song was over the crowd was on it's feet, and Dylan put his arm around her and they took a bow together. I don't know of anyone who taped the show but I'm still asking around. I'll let you know if anything comes up. I'd like to send you blanks to spin copies of the Rare Angels tape and the two tapes from her coffie house days in San Diego. Just let me know what address to send the blanks to and I'll get them off. Also, if you could give me that information on her list, I'd like to add my name to it. Today I downloaded one of Jewels' "cuter" pictures off of "Everday Angels" and turned it into a Bitmap, and stretched it to full size with Microsoft W95 Plus. The picture is the 7th one down in the 2nd column of the Jewel Gallery (jewel_wwsysvideo_1.jpg). It's a close up from the WWSYS video. While I love the results and it looks really good on my 21" monitor (brag, brag), it still is not at all close to good quality. So, if any one out there knows where I can download a better quality still of the same pic, OR a high quality pic that is similar OR if any one wants to US Postal Snail Mail me a good similar photo, magazine clipping or whatever (which I GUARRANTEE a return of the original) I'd really, really appreciate it. If you Snail Mail a pic, I've got really good scanners at work that I can use to likely turn any pic into a high quality Bitmap or whatever. Of course if anyone wanted a copy, I can EMAIL it to you. She was very excited about playing "Letterman" on Mon and kept asking the crowd if she should play solo or w/ a band. Over-whelmingly we voted solo, but we'll have to see. She made the comment (jokingly) that she can die now b/c she accomplished one of her goals in life, playing w/ Dylan and said that she is accomplishing her 2nd goal- playing on Dave. I got a chance to meet her before the show and got a photo. It was funny b/c before the performance she was just walking around and no one knew who she was, then after the show she had trouble getting back to her dressing room (signing autographs). I was front row and got some great pictures, I'll send them to someone to throw on her Web pages, should have them developed by next weekend. Her brother was with her at the gig. If anyone recorded this Penn State show or any other recent gigs, please contact me. I would like to trade. I am also interested in acquiring the video that is said to be being put together( or is done?) of her tv appearances, etc. Any live concert footage anywhere? I have lots to trade with.
