Usually this is true, but remember these two words: "The Crow." One more word: "Clerks." I believe both of these movies heavily advertised their soundtracks during previews. Not everybody loves these pictures, of course, but I thought the first was one of the more original action films to be produced in a long time, and the latter, despite some stilted acting, had some of the funniest dialogue and situations this side of "Pulp Fiction." As for "The Craft," I'll probably wait for cable. "I Shot Andy Warhol," on the other hand, has been getting pretty good buzz since Sundance. I don't know most of them, but Patti Rothberg (you've spelled it correctly) is terrific. I just saw her here performing in the WNEW studios, and had a blast. But, fortunately, she did and got someone to go buy tickets. And get this, I got the LAST two tickets. Ah, what luck!!! Jewel works radio interviews well (which Stern appreciates), she's quick with a good comeback, and hip enough to take Stern's likely innuendos in stride. If you pay close attention, Stern warms up to his female guests that play along instead of being put off by his routine, something I'm sure Jewel would easily be into. I'll bet it would be hilarious! On the "favorite songs" topic, I've found myself liking the some of new stuff the most. I think Louisa & Her Blue Guitar is fabulous. I've always liked Summer Home In Your Arms, which I don't see mentioned much. Studies In Love #12 always gets the repeat treatment. And I liked Nikos instantly, because it so personal. All this info is from what I have gathered and may be incorrect. So sue me. They are both, and have been for a while, independent women. They both started off solo, playing acoustic and singing in small clubs and bars and whatnot. They both write and play very personal, slice of life, songs that are difficult to distinguish between fact and fiction. They have their own distinct sound that makes it hard to categorize them. And they stick by their particular sound most of the time. Of course, they do vary it a bit, but on the whole, each one's sound is distinct and unique and (shoot me now) always the same. They have slowly built up cult followings, first in their general vicinities of performance, and then all over the country. They bring a very emotional aspect to live performance. And humor. And there's other stuff that makes my arguement concrete but I can't think of now. Anyways, the Ani concert was ok. The venue was terrible (an old factory with tons of pillars creating terrible sight lines), the crowd was annoying, the heat inside was stifling. The show was good. I saw her three times last year, so it didn't blow me away. But she is coming out with a new album very soon (I read somewhere that it's next week). Ah well. 'Sup Ghost in the Shell. Can't wait to see it. I love Masamune Shirow's manga artwork. Jewel on MTV tonight. What time is Alt. Nation on?
