After all, you're right...she did!) Well, this is a part of me that i would never would have expected to be reveiling on-line...certainly not to jewel@smoe.org. Howeever, it seems fitting, so I'll run with it. my father was an orphan and hi only blood relative (that I know of) is his much-deranged sister) Consequently, I know very little about his or my family history. However, the short of it is...Legend Holds that Judy Garland is my great aunt. I don't now how exactly and I don't care to do the research. All I know is that for 20 years I've believed it to be true...and so I've listened to the music and read the tales of the one true Dorothy. I haven't seen the performance Jewel is in, but I have listened to her music (alot) and in retrospect I would say that Jewel Kilcher has a very similar sound to my Great Aunt. Take it from someone who knows. Whether or no the show was a flop, Jewel was a fine choice for the part. It was taped at the Lincoln Center in New York. It is now being shown on a few PBS stations during Pledge Week. The Wizard of Oz was a poor high-schoolish production that starred Jewel as Dorothy. It was produced for the Children's Defense Fund as a charitable benefit. It also starred Nathan Lane (currently in Birdcage), Jackson Browne, Roger Daltry, Joel Grey, Phoebe Snow and the Harlem Boys Choir. The costumes, casting, and production overall was bad. However, if you want to get a copy of the video ($24.93) or the CD ($20.95) call 1-800-201-8844. These prices include shipping and handling. I just came across an article in MOVIELINE magazine. It was for "The Craft" a new movie with 5 girls on the add coming out May 10. They said new songs from Jules, Jewel, Elastica, Tripping Daisy, Sponge, Letters To Cleo. I don't know if anybody has heard about this. The soundtrack comes out April 30. Can't wait for a new Jules song. Normally I ignore all the flames and just go on reading what I want. However, this case seems a little different. It seems that most of the flames (which eminate from just a couple people) are attempting to TELL people what they can and cannot discuss here. Granted sometimes threads trail away from Jewel, but that's how people get interested in other things. The name of this mailing list is "Jewel", not "Only talk about Jewel's music... or how HOT she is but only when Brett brings it up". Frankly any discussion about Jewel (good and bad) should be fair game. And yes, to me this would include any discussion on what she could (even if she doesn't want to) accomplish. Frankly, as much as I love Jewel's music, there's only so many times you can write "I really like the song _Amen_. Right now Jewel is touring a little and she's supposed to be heading to the studio to work on a new album (can't wait). That means that unless you happen to live in an area she's going to be in concert at, you probably don't have much to say that is new. Therefore, during this lull in Jewel's new stuff some people may bring up "possibilities" in her career... no matter how far fetched. If you don't want to read it, start deleting that thread after you read the first one and determine what it is about. Seems pretty simple to me. I'm going to stop at that because this is the kind of message I don't usually read... and don't expect anyone else to. Actually I kind hate myself for sending it. Maybe I won't. OK, I will. :) Dean P.S. Just so there's something here specifically about Jewel, I'll put one of my favorite lines from one of my favorite songs. Well, here's another. What if Jewel was as cynical as this idiot (or should I say mistaken youth)? Do you think she would have embarked on a musical career? I doubt it. She probably would be in a menial job in Alaska where noone save herself in the bathroom could hear her beautiful voice. BTW, your message wasn't exactly ingenious Mr. Mature 16 Year Old. :) Also, mail lists are based on a GENERAL topic of conversation. Members of the list are left to their discretion as to whether or not their message adhers to this GENERAL topic. Why is it that some people think this should be about one thing specifically? However, I don't live my life drooling over what she's going to do next. I write poetry inspired by myself, so if you want to hear poems inspired by Jewel, then ask someone who actually knows her, or write it yourself. I agree with whoever it was who mentioned that Jewel is the "general" topic of this list. If I felt that I had to relate Jewel to each of my life experiences, I'd probably puke just before unsubscribing. The truth of the matter is that we can't just keep repeating ourselves over and over again by saying, "oh, I like this song" oh really, so do I. I can really relate to the lyrics. All that is fine and dandy, but it doesn't affect me, so why should I have to read it? Just like all you Jewelites who live and breathe Jewel, and don't want to believe that there are other things to talk about, which may indirectly relate to her('cause indirect just isn't good enough, right?), feel that people like myself, who have our own minds, own lives, own dreams, shouldn't waste your time, I feel you shouldn't waste mine. Another thing. All you whiners who write three-page-long letters complaining about me not using private email, why don't you use private email to say it to me, instead of posting it on the list? But, I'm also the first person to say, "What the hell is going on with these shmucky posts?" Lately I have been asking the latter question many times, even when I read something like this. Everyone is so hypersensitive and then when someone writes a post worthy of a frat house, everyone feels the need to respond. There is no need to respond (maybe personally), we all know that the guy/girl is writing something not so intelligent. We don't need every person on the list pointing that out, if we don't have the level of intelligence to discern then we shouldn't be trying to communicate with other people via an advanced medium. This is a music related list and as much as I might like to discuss how the media packages mostly pretty products, that is something to be discussed personally and not flamed-about the whole net. For those of you who are new and are considering unsubscribing I would ask you please to reconsider. I had a much better impression when I first subscribed than I would now, but everything goes in cycles. If you are intersted in the discussion of music, especially Jewel's, you belong here.
