Knock Out 2 Re: more Jewel now!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Hiranya@aol.com Date: Wed, 13 Mar 1996 15:30:00 -0500 Subject: misc. Hi, Hiranya here. Jewel is narrowing the producer thing down and will choose soon. Recording will probably be May. Release in late Sept/early Oct. There will be a few dates during that time perhaps. Then a headliner tour in 400-1000 seat venues in maybe June. Its going to be a lot fewer dates and easier schedule! A few European or Australian dates are being considered but this may or may not happen. Jewel just wrote a dance track for a movie. Andy Warhol is, I think, the name of the movie. Ill double check that and if I dont correct myself then you'll know thats it. She was just offered the lead in West Craven's new film: Scarey Movie. Way too bloody for Jewel. Scarey things scare her! We never did catch the George and Alana show, doesnt sound like we missed much. More later Hiranya ------------------------------ From: Hiranya@aol.com Date: Wed, 13 Mar 1996 15:29:58 -0500 Subject: note from JEWEL! Hi, not a lot of news lately cuz things are wrapping up, but today I have a bunch of stuff including this note from Jewel: Hi. Everybody. I'm so tired i cant stop but i'm disapearing for 10 days. It was a really good tour. The key tour piece is the cowboy boots with lime green cactus on the side--from Boulder, or was it Denver? and the cowboy hat from Boise which i bought at 7 am cuz cowboy hat stores open early there and i was leaving so its a good things they open early or i wouldnt have gotten so much cooler. im gonna really LOVE my new guitar and so will you! Its being hand made by this great human being named Danny Ferrington who designs and hand-builds the most incredible guitars for the most incredible list of clients. I even have one of those huge coffee table books of color photos of his instruments which are such works of art. Love it! Love you! Oh...it's Girl Scout Cookie season, dont miss it! Jewel ------------------------------ From: Hiranya@aol.com Date: Wed, 13 Mar 1996 15:30:13 -0500 Subject: mtv add/video remix Jewel got added to mtv! And yesterday they upped her rotation and they may increase rotation again if response is good so if you see it let them know! Also, the WWSYS video currently being shown is a remix of the original. It moves a lot faster, works with the music better, and shows a lots more shots of her. I want it now! Hiranya said that Jewel's mom already has a copy, but I want one too! wussup with Jewel these days? She...oh, just read the notes from Hiranya (they popped up right as I was writing this. Cool Karma, eh?) Yay! New record in sept or oct (mebbe in time for my birthday) and a dance track! Ha ha yes! Boogie till you drop! I think that Jewel would play an excellent Death in a Sandman (based on the DC comics characters, not horror stuff) movie, if they ever make one. Just dye her hair black or give her a wig, and let her go...ginchy, peachy-keen, and oh-so sassy. lala la lalalalala I am going home saturday. Yay. ok Paul "Can't dance. Too wet to plow. This doesn't contain any direct Jewel related info, but I thought I'd recommend Maria McKee to those looking for other Jewel-like artists. Their careers are somewhat similar, in that they both started at a young age (Maria released her first album with the band Lone Justice when she was only 17). They also both have incredible voices, are great songwriters, show country influences in their music, and can capture the human condition and human experiences in ways that far outweigh their years. Maria may actually have been a little more critically acclaimed when her album was first released, but had the production on Jewel's first album matched Lone Justice's debut, I'm sure critics would be raving as well. Maria plays pretty much straight rock and roll, but she has this incredible country twang to her voice. You'd swear she grew up in the south, but she actually grew up in L.A. She now lives in Ireland. She's also written some incredible pop songs--her song "To Deserve You" was recently a hit single for Bette Midler. Maria has yet to record it--Bette's version is pretty much a standard AOR arrangement Lone Justice had two albums, one self-titled, and the second called Shelter. The second one basically has an all new band, and Maria was definitely the driving force behind it (though Marvin Etzioni's contributions to the first album can't be overlooked). She now has three solo albums--a self-titled "debut", a second called "You Gotta Sin to Be Saved", and a new one titled "The Sweet Life" that is supposed to finally be released at the end of the month. I haven't heard anything off the new album yet, but will tonight when I go to see her perform live. She's also had songs on the Days of Thunder soundtrack ("Show Me Heaven"), the Pulp Fiction soundtrack ("If Love Were a Red Dress") and covers a Victoria Williams song ("Opelousas") on the Sweet Relief tribute album. If you're looking for an album to start with, I'd recommend either of the self titled albums (Lone Justice or Maria McKee). Sorry--this is more than any of you probably wanted to know, but if you got this far, you must have been somewhat interested. It's the unknown works of Dr. Seuss, but can get a bit perverted. Well, I said everything! LATER! Just my $.03 *sydney ------------------------------ From: diciccda@saber.udayton.edu Date: Wed, 13 Mar 1996 18:59:42 -0500 Subject: Knock Out 2 Hi Angels! I finally got around to calling up to subscribe to OUT so I could get the Knock Out 2 Cd. I procrastinated for awhile because of both lack of money and I felt a little awkward, being heterosexual but not narrow minded, calling to subscribe to OUT. I had read a friend's copy and new that it was pretty cool. So today I summoned my courage and called to subscribe. When I called 800-876-1199, which was posted here a few weeks back, the operator had no idea which CD was being offered but she knew that the price was $19.95 for 11 issues. She then gave me another number to call to find out about the CD. The operator at this number said that the price was $24.95 for 10 issues, but they were offering the Knock Out 2 CD, featuring Jewel which was my motivation for calling to subscribe. So I asked the operator why the price had gone up $5 for one LESS issue when the other operator quoted a different price. She then explained that there are different specials running at different times and they may overlap. So then she quoted me $19.95 for 11 issues, and then she asked me to hold a minute. She searched her computer, and was able to offer me 11 issues for $14.95. I saved $10 and got one extra issue by simply asking for a better rate. So what I am getting at is if you want to order OUT and get the Knock Out 2 with the non-album Jewel track, you should call 800-669-1002 and ask specifically for 11 issues for $14.95 and ask specifically for Knock Out 2, 'cos the operator made it sound like they offer a few different discs. I just figured everyone would be interested in saving a few bucks, and getting some rare material, along with one extra issue of a pretty cool mag.
