Hey, I've heard a lot about people taping the shows, and I was wondering just how you go about it. Do you drag in a big old tape recorder under your jacket or what? And what kind of sound quality do you get? I mean, I love to hear her, but it would totally ruin it for me to hear these beautiful songs distorted and buried under static and crowd murmur. That said, I would still love to get Rare Angels and Innerchange Days. It sounds like the people in charge are going to be incredibly busy though, so this isn't a request, but I do have another question. Not having come across this tape tree concept before, I'm rather confused about just how it works. I've been trying to piece it together from the posts, but without complete success. Is it sort of like a chain letter, and if so, how does a copy of a copy of a copy ... not sound like mud? And while I'm on this, why doesn't Jewel tape her own shows? It seems like it would be easier to do and useful too, since she keeps mixing it up and throwing new things in. Wouldn't have the bootleg mystique though, I guess. But it seems like a tragedy to me that these wonderful moments slip away. I suppose you could look at it another way, treasuring the inspired (even for Jewel!) performance of a particular song that you know will never be heard that way again. It's something that only you and the rest of that night's audience will share with Jewel. And the rest of us can only hear about it . Oh, and I've been saving this for awhile now. It bothers me to see people bashing Edwin (or even just his fans). I don't really care for him myself, and unlike Jewel I don't see him ever becoming a Big Thing, but he tries hard, and when they went through here he did a really beautiful song live on the radio. He said he'd written it like a week before (perhaps he picked this habit up from Jewel?), and in fact it was a very Jewel-esque performance - acoustic and very emotional and personal. It took me by surprise. I didn't hear it at the show that night (whether I missed it because I stepped out for a while in the middle, or I just didn't recognize it, I don't know), but I can assure you that the crowd was much more rude and noisy for his quiet, soul-baring numbers than they were for Jewel. The very concept must boggle the members of this group, but some people go to bars to meet people, rather than listen to the performance. You'd think they would recognize great talent when they hear it, but some people are just clueless and without respect. After saying all of that, I will say that more people were in the crowd for Jewel than Edwin, and there was a mass exodus after her set was over (so the rudies for Edwin's set were probably not Jewel fans, but just losers who *still* hadn't hooked up yet). Ack, it seems like I had even *more* to say, but I'll spare you, because I have to get home to watch Crossroads :) Aaron Suever To Tom Proven: I love your new signature tag thing (love, life, music / jewel). Simple. Beautiful. What it's all about. Big thumb's up. ------------------------------ From: WHITEH17@VAXA.CIS.UWOSH.EDU Date: Thu, 29 Feb 1996 22:41:14 -0600 (CST) Subject: Funny thought... Of course when a blond-haired Jewel came out, > they went quiet. I must say, that I feel completely terrible for JEWEL, and what she must have gone through... However, this was probably one of the funniest stories I have ever read...and I think Jewel could write an incredible song regarding all this. (Well, if anybody could, she's the one) I'm sorry to wast valuable space and time, but I'm still giggling from it. :) Peace all.....and please, if I p*ssed off anybody by posting such a silly thing, my private e-mail is below, and the delete key is to your right....
