She was very beautiful (in music and=20 appearance) and humorous. Seems that many people were there just for=20 Jewel, as everyone who was standing in rapture during her performance = sat=20 down for Edwin's. To the latter bands credit, people did get up after a = while and start dancing, as their music was quite catchy (granted I was=20 studying for my 8AM lab). =3D> I was at the Catalyst Monday night, too. I enjoyed myself so damn much = that I considered driving up to San Francisco the next day to see her at = Slim's (common sense regained its occasional hold of me, instead). You = are 100% correct about the fan allegiance that night. I hadn't even = heard of Edwin McCain before I saw the Catalyst tour listing (all my = friends got him confused with Edwyn Collins of "Never Met a Girl Like = You Before"). I hung around for about ten of McCain's songs then left = in pursuit of Jewel, but it looked as if she had already left. So I = spent the rest of the night swooning while fastidiously cleaning my = domicile for the next day's inspection (which I promptly failed). Yes, I did manage to give her white roses. (It's a habit, I figure she=20 could use a bit of beauty on the road, and it's giving back the beauty I = derive from her.) She signed my shirt, drawing an angel, as well! She = was absolutely swamped with fans, and seemed to be handling them = well...=20 though I wonder if she'll stop coming out to mingle as she gets more=20 popular. It looked really wearying. =20 Ah, so the roses were yours! Good choice. I mingled a bit before she = took to the stage, but the time constraint and the throng of fans = already around her made it difficult to get anything out of it except = for a beautiful close-up view. Wearying or not, she handles us = extremely well. Plus, I've deluded myself into believing she looked up = at me in the balcony several times during her performance. And I wasn't = even firing flashbulbs at her! Anyway, I hope she comes back when it's = warmer. And without Dolores O'Riordan. =3D) Glad to be a new member of the group, folks. - - Carter Navarro (raptor@cats.ucsc.edu) Me: http://www2.ucsc.edu/people/raptor/ ------------------------------ From: gwarder@icis.on.ca (Geoff Warder) Date: Wed, 28 Feb 1996 16:59:58 -0500 Subject: Merchandise Stuff & The Newsletter Just a quick note. I've noticed a lot of people looking for merchandise (ie. t-shirts) and not being able to get them for various reasons Lenedra has told me that there will be an information sheet inserted in the newsletter on how to order stuff like that. The newsletter is still slated to be sent out at the end of March. If anyone is interested in receiving it, but hasn't signed up yet, just e-mail me (not the list) your snail-mail address and I'll add you to the list. The first issue is free. Sorry to cause any confusion, but ..I doubt that she did two checks for both Jewel and Jewell..I could be wrong, though Phong What I learned I rejected, but I believe again I will suffer the consequence of this inquisition If I jump in this fountain, will I be forgiven? -Alanis On Wed, 28 Feb 1996, damon schmidt wrote: > The lady on hte other end > > checked her computers, and said that there was "no CD called Save the > > Linoleum by Jewel." OK, so here's what I'm thinking: When I posted that I would spin Leana's bootleg to whoever didn't get a cahnce to get it from her, I got dozens of responses. I recieved the tape from her (not the greatest, cuts off a song, but hey) and I wrote back to those people and the tapes are on their way here or back. There were a lot of responses but it wasn't any big deal to spin them and I'm not worried about tape wearing or any of that. MY point is, that I know there are more people, like me, willing to spin. Maybe not 20 tapes but a few each, and all we need is the seed. So, if anyone has a seed and wants to write to one person about it, and is willing to spin only one tape (not thousands), then that's all the person with the tape would have to do. We were all newbies at one point and I think on this net we're a lot cooler about it then on some of the other nets. I know Colin, Ken, Neile, etc. are working really hard. So, if you don't have a tape be patient and if you do tell soemone. You don't have to post it so you're buried under requests just write me or anyone personally... Opinions, opinions... No Jewel Kilcher to >be had here. The article reads, "Incredibly, the big bands, the ones you might buy the CD for, actually offer the weakest cuts on the album. Jewel is Jewel, The Throwing Muses are their typical angry child-like selves, and Lisa Germano puts in a solid, if predictable, performance." I guess that's why Jayne L. Bowman writes for Orbit, and not Rolling Stone. Thanks for clarifying! Dan ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V1 #73 **************************
