She did this while describing a daydream of her (Jewel) playing at D's wedding. She said something about Keanu Reeves being there with a date or something "to prove he's not gay". She also said D would have a bare midriff wedding dress on, but no navel piercing "because she's too cool for that" or something to that effect. The audience loved it. Later, Chip ------------------------------ From: Chip Davies Date: Wed, 7 Feb 96 09:02:41 EST Subject: concert monday in Cleveland First, I'm really glad to be on a living, vibrant digest where we actually get to talk about new songs and new performances (another one is kind of depressing because the band hasn't performed in years and no material is forthcoming). It's exciting to be here at the beginning (relatively). Anyway, I was inspired by Gregg Dunn's review of last night's show, and so here's a few words about the one the night before you, Greg, at the Odeon in Cleveland. I went with a friend who had heard her but was not so familiar. We got there about a half an hour early and were about 9 "rows" of people back (The Odeon is a chairless venue, that holds about 900, I believe). Anyway, they had a film screen in front of the stage so Jewel could get situated before starting. She came on at about 8:15 and by then we were in the front third of the crowd. She opened up with pieces of you and interjected bits of commentary between lines. She seemed totally at ease up there and the show flowed along effortlessly as the crowd responded quite favorably. The songs were basically the same as what Greg mentioned (sorry I don't have a set list). She didn't do any arias, she got a nice applause for her blues solo here as well. She told the drug bust story and everyone got a kick out of that. Towards the end someone handed her an envolope and then she shook hands with someone else in the front row. Unfortunately, there was a noisy group near the ! bar and at one point in mid song s he told them to "shut up". She had to yell at them one more time, but for the most part it was not a problem. Everyone around us was pretty transfixed with her so that was cool. She did WWSYS which was great and a lot of people sang along. She left and came back for one encore which was the yodeling song. Everyone seemed to like that and egged her on each time she asked "Should I go faster?" She then mentioned her dream of doing this and how she had lived in her van in San Diego for a while because she was determined "to do this or die". She thanked everyone for buying the record and the radio stations for playing her, and that was it. She mentioned playing a song on the radio that afternoon. I wish I'd heard that. I also wish I'd been able to shake hands with her like Gregg in Indy. My friend was duly impressed and kicked himself for not bringing his roommates mini recorder. It was amazing. I echo Gregg's sentiments; she deserves all the success and more. I ho! pe this is the start of a long, gr eat career for Jewel. At the end of March I'm going to be in SD. I'll definately go to the Innerchange and see what I can soak up Chip ------------------------------ From: "jeffrey hanson" Date: Wed, 07 Feb 96 11:26:12 cdt Subject: Re: Innerchange tapes Hi Matt and others, I compiled both the tapes for ecto and for the jewel list. The songs are almost all identical, except the Jewel copy doesn't contain the songs on the album (except for Foolish Games and You Were Meant for Me since those versions are significantly different) or on Rare Angels. Due to that, I was able to add two songs--a song by Joy Eden Harrison called Where Have You Gone, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, which was performed live at an Innerchange show and on which Jewel does a vocal/scat/jazz solo, and a track from the Rugburns latest album, Taking the World by Donkey, on which Jewel sings backup. This also brought the tape length down to 3 sides of 2 100 minute tapes. I recorded the tapes for ecto prior to the album being released--thus I didn't know which songs would be on it, and therefore included all the unique songs I had at the time. The end point being, if you received the tapes from the ecto tape project, you probably don't need these. Jeff Hanson ------------------------------ From: "Emily S. On the various web pages with tour dates posted, they all list Jewel as coming to Sacramento, CA on the 26th and playing at the Press Club. I've called ticketmaster and the Press Club and neither knows anything about that date. All they have is Santa Cruz, CA on the 26th. Anyone know anything about a new or different Sacramento date? I'd love an update as it would be my first Jewel concert... thanks, Julian ------------------------------ From: CRfuntime@aol.com Date: Wed, 7 Feb 1996 18:22:06 -0500 Subject: jewel @ Shank Hall Hey everyone! I've been told that on Feb. 28th (which was originally supposed to be a show in Santa Cruz at The Catalyst) Jewel will be playing in San Juan Capistrano at The Coach House. So probably the Santa Cruz show has been moved up to the 26th. As for the Sacramento show, I have no idea. I'm trying to get confirmation on the dates - I'll post as soon as I find out if someone doesn't beat me to it. - --------------- Colin Stuckless colins@cs.mun.ca http://www.cs.mun.ca/~colins/jewel.html ------------------------------ From: Brian820@aol.com Date: Wed, 7 Feb 1996 22:43:23 -0500 Subject: Jewel in Enternainment Weekly Hi everyone, I just wanted to let you all know that Jewel's YWMFM video is reviewed in the 2-9 issue of EW.
