In most cases, you get the tickets at the door, the night of the show. Sometimes you can get them through Ticketmaster, but if they don't know about the show by now, tickets are probably available at the door. ------------------------------ From: "Mark Anthony Miazga" Date: Tue, 30 Jan 1996 10:18:01 -0500 (EST) Subject: Jewel at the Blind Pig part II In response to yesterday's post that said that tickets for Jewel's performance at the Blind Pig were still on sale, only not through Ticketmaster but through the Blind Pig... (Coming soon will be a compilation tape of Jewel's songs from the Inner Change period). Especially good would be if we could tree a good show from Jewel's current tour, but anything would be nothing. Please look through the following questions and see if you are a potential seed for a tape tree. 1) Do you own a recording of a Jewel show? Look carefully. Look in all your tapes, look under your couch. I don't care if it is a 17th generation copy, I'm lowering my standards. If you have a tape of a complete show by Jewel then you have passed this section. 2a) If you have a tape, would you be willling to make 10 or more copies of this tape, which you would then send to the 'branches' of the tree, in return for trades or blanks? 2b) If you are not willing to make copies, would you be willing to lend the tape to me, allow me to make copies, and then return the tape to you, along with a trade or blank? 2c) If you are not willing to lend me your tape, would you make one copy of the show and send it to me, in return for a trade or a blank? I will then start the tree with my copy. 3) If you have a tape but aren't willing to do any of the three possibilities above, then forget about it. If you do have a tape and are willing to do one of the three, email me and tell me about the show, and which choice you'd do. On the chance that I get multiple responses, I'll try to schedule a series of tape trees this spring with the list! I don't think TicketMaster handles Backstage tickets. I know the Backstage handles their own for most shows. Not Kim, dammit! That's me last name! Argh :) Ok, I saw Jewel and Edwin McCain last night at the Iron Horse and had great fun. Doors opened around 7 PM, and the place was packed (over 200 people, I think, since it has a limit of 200 seated) by the time Jewel went on at 8:30 or so. Their bus was parked right outside the entrance, and she came in from the bus wearing a sky bluish parka. Here's the set list, as near as I can decipher from my writing and from my limited knowledge of the song titles: Kiss Your Ass Pieces of You (with Delores send-up) Catch a Cold with Me (request, since she has a cold) some song with the words "Come and Go" Little Sister Morning Song I have no idea what this song was since I can't read my own handwriting her attempt at a Country song a song with the lyrics "with you I'll always be" a new song, with lyrics about Fragile heart Kmart Song I Got the Blues More than You do Blues (with awicked guitar solo) Life's a Great Big Mystery Show Love Song (new) Fat Boy (sad song) Angel Standing By Near You Always Breaking Up Painters encore: A song that has the lyrics "Dream together you and I" I took a lot of pictures of her on stage. She played for about an hour and twenty minutes! She did mention the VH-1 hosting this Thursday and said she would play Foolish Games, YWMFM, and the new song that, I think was called "Love Song." I was quite disappointed that she didn't yodel or sing "I'm Sensitive" "Racecar Driver" or "God's Gift..." And some of the audience members detracted from my ability to enjoy the show. I don't know exactly why I wanted to pummel these people, but they annoyed me a great deal. Especially the younger group that was standing on the dance floor (there was no dancing during her set, but plenty during Edwin's). And some of those fans seemed quite obssessive (not that there's anything wrong with being obssessive sometimes. I mean, aren't we all a little obssessed with Jewel to be on this list?) I have no problem with our obssession, but one guy and one girl in particular (seperate parties) seemed to try to flaunt knowledge of Jewel and be really obnoxious about it. Ahhhh, well, I do that too, so why don't I just shut up and sit down. After the show, I met her as she signed autographs and posed for pictures outside the performers' room. Didn't talk to her since I suck at public confrontations with the following: famous people, people I adore, beautiful women, talented women, funny women, older women, women, and big assholes. However, I did get the PoY sleeve signed and the page from Sassy magazine (I don't subscribe! Really I don't! I got it from the newstand just for the page on Jewel! Honest! Why don't you believe me?). I opted for the Sassy picture since I think it was better than the US magazine picture. I posed for a picture with her (I gotta waste the rest of the film so that I can have it developed as soon as possible. Oh what a pretty cloud formation. click) Then I gave her three scented candles and a candle holder and she was happy 'cause she said ( I don't know how true this is. I think she just said this to make me feel happy. She's such a pathological liar:) that she had just burned her last candle and needed more. She asked if I am psychic and I replied in my witty way "shgrmmblbm...heh" I did meet a fellow list member (I still think that we should come up with a name for the list and nicknames for list members-I didn't even know that I was previously thinking about that) as Edwin McCain was finishing up. Hi Larissa! Sorry for seeming out of it, but I was and am constantly in a state of confusion, even when I am lucid (and I don't have to ingest any substances to be this way, either). While I waited for transportation back to college, I noticed that the tour bus just idled outside the Iron Horse with all the windows closed. i guess this means that they all slept on the bus right there. I'm pretty sure that's what they did because I waited around for two and a half hours for the stupid public transportation busses to NOT come and had to get my friends to drive down and pick me up. Yeah, I froze my little but off until 2:30 A.M. in Northampton. I pity me. I did tape the Mike and Maty show, running to the TV lounge in my dorm with a borrowed TV/VCR and hooking it up so that I could watch and tape Jewel on the small tv while a bunch of jocks watched SportsCenter. If anyone wants a copy, I could do it, but I might not be able to do so until spring break (mid-march). When she played YWMFM, she cut out the "Dreams last so long" part and went directly into "You were meant for me" during the Chorus parts. She even cut out the "Put on my coat in the pouring rain...It made me miss you so bad" part of the second verse. Why did she do that?! She did redeem herself at the concert by singing the unabridged version of the song. A final note. Currently, I acn't get over how emotive Jewel is when she sings. Her facial expressions, body movement, and voice all work together to convey her feelings when she sings her songs. It's kind of scary since I can't tell whether she is just acting or whether she really feels the emotions while she plays. I saw a blues/folky singer-songwriter a couple weeks ago named Susan Werner, and I got similar vibes from her when she played a couple really sad songs about broken relationships. She seemed to have to take several moments after the songs ended to compose herself, and I felt sadness for her myself. But then she bounced back with jokes and banter. Jewel was similar, but even more emotionally involved. In fact, she seemed downright angry sometimes, a bit pissed.
