MuchMusic is the Canadian "equivilant" to MTV or VH1, but you're right, it's quite a bit broader in what it plays. They've just recently expanded their service into the U.S., where I think they run they duplicate the Canadian originator some of the time, enhanced with special segments geared to the U.S. market, and they call this channel MuchUSA. It's available on some cable companies, as well as on the new DBS systems. That's the 18-inch satellite dish systems that are coming into he market now, that compete against the traditional cable companies. No broadcast outlet is going to please anyone 100 percent of the time, but I like MuchMusic quite a bit. Thier diverse specialty progrmming turns me off sometimes, but I've found the channel to be a great source for new music that doesn't get radio airplay. I don't think it will be a problem - Josh (the rep) is aware that Rare Angels and our tape trading has been approved (by implication, maybe?) by Jewel. Josh is a brand new rep, a real nice guy, and simply loves Jewel and was psyched to hear that there was a a mailing list that he could show his support on. Neile, I didn't quite understand your objection, and I'd like to - could you rephrase it? I don't think we've done ANYTHING even remotely illegal, ever. But, if it makes you more comfortable, I could ask Josh how he feels about sound clips / concert recordings / etc before i give him the subscription info for the list. -Jon Held elisheva@netaxs.com DISCLAIMER - These opoi^H^H "dang", ^H, [esc :q :qq !q "narf!" :Q! I was getting worried because it seemed like everyone who made the Jewel list such a great one to be on was leaving. Nice to see that when the smoke cleared, they were still here! On ecto this created a bit of a disturbance (at least, on an ecto I remember that little disturbance... it was about as close to a flame war as ecto ever gets. Still, it was more like a bunch of people lighting candles angrily. :-) I too have no idea what "smoe" means, and now I'm sure I don't really need to know. Neal continued: >Footnote: ecto is a mailing list ostensibly devoted to Happy >Rhodes (an excellent singer/songwriter), but typically focusing on female >singers in general. And I would like to add that it was Neal and Jeff H.'s Jewevangelizing (does that word work?) on ecto during her Innerchange days that caused a lot of excitement about Jewel (through bootleg tapes and copies of Shiva) that eventually resulted in the spawning of this list by Jeff W., another ectophile (apparently one who "was" in the smoe ingroup. :-) ) If anyone wants a forum to talk about Tori, Jewel, and whoever else you want, to your heart's content, with nary a flame to come from it, try ecto. Now, as my friend Lynn, who accompanied me and drove, this was the "day from hell." But, I'm not going to bore you with the personal details of mine (or Lynn's) life... I'll just get down to the show itself... Jewel was the first act although, I believe it was a co-headlining deal rather than an opening-act deal. I thought she was great. She played like 5 kicking new songs including this really cool song called "Kiss your ass" (?) which had lyrics like, "You be permiscuous and I'll be chaste\Because my whole mission in life is to kiss your ass." It was a really cool set and she was pretty funny and ultimately psyched. Considering she's played the venue before, I've never seen someone so into there set. She played the album stuff, which is generally low key, whereas the new stuff rocked. And she actually played the songs herself unlike her Conan O'Brien appearence a few weeks ago. So, so far the show's been really cool, almost making up for the rest of the day and we wait through the long set change and then Edwin takes the stage. Now, neither of us had ever heard this guy sing (actually I take that back, I had heard that stupid single) but we were psyched because everyone is like, "You have to go see Edwin McCain, he jams." So, the set began and the first two song weren't bad they just weren't good and by the third song we're like what the hell are we doing here. So, we listened to two more and then bolted. And, I was wondering if someone was there and he just hadn't picked up steam yet or was that it? I know he has such a big following and I was kind of surprised that it wasn't something more. The stuff was like OK bar music it wasn't, "Oh, my god Edwin's here," music. Atleast not to me... Maybe I'm missing the whole key to his appeal, as I do with both Big Head Todd and the Monsters and Hootie and the Blowfish, but I was dissapointed... And that was the show, and that's all there is to it. If anyone taped (I don't think it was allowed but I'm checking) the Jewel set I'd definitely trade for it. (Obviously no need to include the second tape...)
