I was almost going to ask my sister's > friends fer a copy of Tori. =-) > -pete j wang My, you sure are easily swayed! I think it's an excellent album, as do many people I know. There, have you decided to buy it again? Besides, how much of a waste could it be to actually listen to a copy that somebody makes for you? I bet you could stand to do that? Oh, and Pablo, Tori has 3 readily available albums that have a very different sound and tone. If you don't like Boys for Pele, you might want to try the more emotionally and lyrically straightforward _Little Earthquakes_. _Under the Pink_ is more wildly orchestrated and lyrically opaque, but it doesn't have the anger of _Boys for Pele_, so it too might be an easier start for you. And yeah, the musical and lyrical style are entirely different from Jewel. Whatever similarities some see in their music, I doubt anyone would say you could mistake the two. Neal ------------------------------ From: Neal Copperman Date: Thu, 25 Jan 1996 23:17:32 -0500 (EST) Subject: The Morning Song - a new view I love the incorrect descriptions of Anais Nin and Henry Miller that were posted! The song certainly takes on new meaning if you look at it that way. Jewel, still shaking off sleep, hair twisted and in disarray, lays squinting into the sunbeams sneaking through the blinds. The pocket of warmth trapped under the blankets is a perfect match for the morning light. The cooling spot next to her, where her lover has just risen is all that mars the scene. She calls out - forget about work and responsibility, let's just stay here, you and me, together, you know, like that guy who slept with that famous whore hundreds of years ago. Don't mind me, I get like this sometimes.... (Neile [or anyone], can you flesh out the story a bit. I would say that Henry and Anais were famous for the intensity of their affair, which was well documented but short-lived. Was that about right?) Neal ------------------------------ From: Jon Held Date: Thu, 25 Jan 1996 23:33:32 -0500 (EST) Subject: Phila Review, and Nikos Just saw Jewel, at TLA in Philadelphia. Zowie!! A few comments: 1) Requesting "Nicotine Love" seems to be a favorite pastime amongst old-timers here, so when I was talking to Jewel before the concert, I requested it. I had never heard it before. She finally played it, announcing to the audience that I requested it (isn't it wonderful when she remembers your name?), and wow- from the title, I was expecting a humorous, sarcastic, light song about cigarettes, but what I got was this INCREDIBLE dark, angstful, violent song, which was the best song of the entire performance. It was quite a surprise. 2) Of course, she forgot to re-tune the guitar after Nicotine Love, which caused her to completely screw up the next song "I'm Sensitive", and she couldn't figure out why the chords sounded wrong - she thought she had fogotten the song. She should have just played Nicotine Love again. 3) I've noticed that she performs her less-common songs better than her CD songs. She seems to just "try" harder and put more of her soul into songs like Nicotine Love and Nikos. My theory is that she is getting kinda bored with singing songs like "Pieces of You" and "WhoWillSaveYourSoul" every single concert. What do you think? 4) I met an Atlantic rep there named Josh, and gave him info about how to join this list, so he'll be here in a few days. 5) Numbering things is just damn yummy 6) I want a copy of "Phyllis Barnabie's New Bra", and am willing to trade for it. I have many Jewel bootleggs and all of her demo work. Anyone interested? 7) Nikolaus! You asked about the song "Nikos" - it is an autobiographical song about Jewel's half-brother - according to the lyrics, she hasn't seen him in years, doesn't know where he is, misses him, and wants to find him. If I were you I'd check your family tree - anyone from Alaska in there? 8) Whoever asked - yes, POY is her first and only album. All the rest are either bootlegs or demos, which occasionally can be found at used record stores. 9) Stay tuned for number ten. 10) Bye! -Jon Held elisheva@netaxs.com DISCLAIMER - These opoi^H^H "dang", ^H, [esc :q :qq !q "narf!" :Q!
