(and it isnt because i dont know who they are. i just dont agree, which is fine). because everyone is introducing themselves, i might as well, as long as i am already posting a message. im katy, a senior in high school. small northern california town east of san francisco. plans for college are to attend university of georgia and continue my studies in photography. i first heard jewel when she opened for liz phair, last april. i was mesmerized, standing front row and more center than anybody else in the place. if she had been wearing a skirt, i bet i could see up it. not that i would, of course, im just saying. i have since seen her once with belly and catherine wheel. (i met her at that show). plans for two shows in feb. have been made with some friends, and as soon as tickets go on sale, im there. im rambling. hasta. katy katzimm@aol.com ------------------------------ From: WHITEH17@VAXA.CIS.UWOSH.EDU Date: Thu, 11 Jan 1996 01:12:50 -0600 (CST) Subject: Re: Faeries (fwd) Date sent: 11-JAN-1996 01:03:35 This is in response to: > I have no idea who the hell Tori Amos is(my sister does though), but I >don't understand why you people are comparing her to Jewel! > Like Nike Freeman (nikfree) , I too was "captivated by the talent >displayed", and I also listen to alternative like Smashing Pumpkins, >Nirvana, n Sonic Youth. > Well... I know that I speak for more than just myself when I say that Tori Amos is the reason I love Jewel. Jewel is a very unique individual. However, before Jewel came about, we only had Tori...Believe me when I say this, but comparing Jewel to Tori is a COMPLIMENT! They are both extremely talented artists...and I treat them with the respect that they deserve. Give Tori a listen, and I'm sure you'll see what I mean... Don't take this response the wrong way, but I felt that I had to express myself. Thanks for your time, Hollie. And >that's why we love her, right?!?!? > -pete j wang Being a Major fan of Tori amos i would have to completely disagree. Listen to who will save your soul and then listed to Tori... Most of tori's stuff sounds like that except she plays piano, not guitar. I would call Who will save your soul a cross between Frente, Tori, and Sarah Mclachlan. Pete, maybe you are one of those people who just is against comparing musicians. If that's so then that's your opinions but if that's not the case it seems to me that tori is probably the closest thing to Jewel out there. It's not anything against jewel, rather it's a compliment. It's not like we are accusing her of copying tori when we compare the two. Pete, I'd advise you to go buy Boys For Pele when it comes out on January 23, or possibly Jan 16 by some accounts (but that's unconfirmed) There is also a Tori amos mailing list too for anyone on this list interested. I have the address around here somewhere. E-mail me privately for the address. It's a great List! Well that's about it... I just joined this list a few days ago, and this is actually read ( or posted to ) it. ( Just in time to find out she's going to be on M&M tommorow!) :) I'm 23 yo male in New Port Richey, FL ( relocated from CT last summer...and am very happy to be missing all that SNOW! BBBRRRRRRRRR!) I'm an RN, and I spend most of my off-time listening to music ( usually [but not always] while doing something else as well). But I digress...... My favorite artist is TORI AMOS ( I have approx 28 discs of her music including promos, singles, boots...so I'm fairly familiar with her music)! Second would be Sarah McLachlan, Jewel is probably about 5th. Don't underestimate my appreciation ( or love ) of her music. I think shes extremely talented. I don't think shes sounds like Tori.I think there are some comparisons to be made. They are (obviously) both EXREMELY talented. They both play ( piano/guitar), sing, and write (intelligent) songs. Many of their songs are prominetely(sp?) only the ladies and their instuments, with other music mearly for mood or background. They even appeal to a similar audience. I dont really hear Tori in Jewel. Though there are a couple songs where their singing style is very similar. Thats about all I se, and I dont beleive its intentional. Anyway, sorry to have rambled.
