[Slippy 4Pres Subject: [EDA] People...let's give Jewel a break, OK? Here's my take on the recent news from Jewel, and how we can all just relax a bit. I've been an unedited member since before the hiatus...enjoyed the meet and greet last year...and I won't say any bad things about 0304. I'm a fan, even if she decides to take a long break. Let's accept a few things as fact: 1. The girl has worked harder and been more accessible to her fans than most artists. 2. If you've read her books and interviews, or listened to her in concert, you know she's got some issues with publicity, despite loving her fans. 3. We have no idea what the new album will sound like, if she'll indeed 'retire' to let others sing her songs, or whatever. All this talk of 'she's forgotten her fans' or 'she doesn't make music like she used to' or 'oh no, what will we all do' is just pointless. You might as well lament that Paul McCartney can't come up with another "Hey Jude" again. Artists grow! They don't want to repeat themselves. And also - this is a tough one - many DO their best work when they're younger and fresh with ideas. No, I'm not saying Jewel is dried-up, but if you think her best music was on POY and didn't like 0304, you need to look for another answer besides forgetting her fans. My suggestion is: let's focus on what news we can get, celebrate the music, sure speculate a bit, but please enough of the misery. I'm sure if she reads this board she'd love to see us support her - even if it means accepting her retirement some day or a change in music style. You have to remember: if she settles down and becomes really happy with herself and her life, it's probably a bit of a stretch to assume she'll be writing songs like "Haunted" again. It happens to the best of artists. Their lives are mirrored in their songs -Jewel all the more so. OK, I've rambled on a bit. But that's my take on this. Tired of spam? Yahoo!
