When replying to messages on this list, the reply-to address should be jewel@smoe.org. I think it would make it easier for everyone. As in, I configure the lists' options where when someone hits "reply" it automatically directs it to the list? (rather than how it is now set up, where hitting "reply" sends it to the author of the post) If so, no that will not be changed. There are good reasons for this. :-) It's been a while since this topic has been addressed on the list, but in past discussions and discussions with other owners of lists hosted here at smoe.org, while it DOES seem to be the ideal way, there's one major drawback that ultimately nixes that option for most moderate and higher volume lists. With that set-up, way too many replies that were intended to be private make it to the list. You see, the way it is now, if you hit reply, it goes to the author of the post. To reply to the list, you can hit reply-all, which really is best (and easy to boot). That choice sends a post to the list and a reply to the author. (Keep in mind that the author may be on digest too, over half of this lists' subscribers are on digest...that way the (digest member) author gets an individual reply to his/her post instead of waiting for the next digest). As for the authors that are on the regular version of this list, they get two copies of the reply. A minor inconvenience as it only would happen if/when they get a reply to one of their own posts. With the other set-up, where "reply" automatically goes to the list, this is where the dreawback is. There is no "one-button easy way" to send a private reply. If you hit reply, it directs it to the list. If you hit reply-all, it has jewel@smoe.org TWICE in the To field. With that set-up the only way to send a private reply is to hit reply, delete the jewel@smoe.org in the To field and then copy and paste the authors' email address into the To field. Just so you know, we did try the other method once, back in 1998 or so, when more than a few members of this list did not think there would be a problem. I forgot if it were a one-month or two-month trial period, but it soon became apparent that yes, way too many (what should have been) private replies were being posted on the list. I don't remember this being discussed before, as it was probably before I joined in 98. Using "reply all" does help, I should've thought of that :P I'll be sure to use that button from now on. - --------------------------------- Visit my forums! http://www.cheesequeen452.blogspot.com http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/tvcafe http://dafc.conforums.com http://www.max452.homestead.com Mike Connell wrote: > At 08:33 AM 2/5/2005, Sasafrass wrote: > >> Just wanted to make a suggestion, if I may....
