If you factor in international sales it's sold over a million. If I wanted to put a positive spin on the whole 0304 thing... I'd say it sold over a million worldwide, gave her the highest charting debut of her career and her biggest hit single in 5 years. Also, apparently statistically speaking it sold to a larger percentage of non-Jewel fans than any of her albums since her debut, which can only be a good thing. It's weird actually... the general perception within the music industry is that 0304 was one of her most successful projects... this is probably because it had more exposure and media coverage than This Way, even though it sold less. >I understand your point of view and totally respect your opinion. >But Stand never was a top forty single and 0304 has sold 880,677 copies (I >checked a month ago) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Jan 2005 12:27:16 +0100 From: "Mr. Moon" Subject: [EDA] Re: jewel-digest V10 #4 The (questionably?) honorable Dennis Harris wrote: > Here's a music related topic: what "current" musician do the people on this > list enjoy listening to? Well I always love to chime in on music related questions... so 'ere goes... It clearly says "current", so I'm not gonna do what some people did and list artists and music who are currently getting a proper time-erosion burial - - well lately I'm getting more and more hooked on Keri Noble, if you ever get to hear Talk To Me, you won't be able to resis either, but that's a tip of the iceberg - - my favorite album at the moment (and for quite some time running) is the latest unbelievably amazing creation by one of the best British bands ever - Embrace. Their album Out Of Nothing is something fans have been waiting for since the release of Good Will Out. In between there have been two very good to great albums, but now it's brilliance again if not the new high. With all the hype Coldplay's generated it's unbelievable this band has not long ago achieved even more. I like Coldplay too (heck even the bands like each other, as on Gravity (the first single) Chris Martin himself had his fingers in - but it's easily better than any other song by Coldplay) but in my opinion these guys have surpassed them even before Coldplay hit the scene. If you at least like Coldplay give Embrace a chance... worst case scenario - you'll like one more band! - - VERY VERY VERY EXCITED about these two things: a) Kathleen Edwards (her debut Failer perhaps best (top3?) album in the last 2 years) is releasing Back To Me very soon... I'm sharpening my ears and taste buds accordingly b) Sheryl Crow is releasing an artistic album very soon! I've been quite disappoined with C'mon C'mon (her POP effort), mostly cause of the lack of intelligent lyrics. You can find more clever lines in most of her older material than on this entire album. But she knew what she was doing... so this year to satisfy her hard core artistic fan base (and personal need) she's giving us what we want from her the most! Just the fact that she's releasing a POP record later this year, tells me this should very much be excellent! Fingers crosses and saliva running till... Hello all, I have a question for any of you who may remember way back when, around 96 or 97, there was a guy on the list named Jeff who gave my wife a Shiva Diva Doo Wop tape, signed by Jewel in red ink, and she had drawn a picture of a "wolf drinking iced tea in the mountains of Alaska", per Jeff's request. We still have the tape, I will take a picture of it and provide a link so you all can see it. Anyway I am desperately trying to get a hold of this guy "Jeff"- We can't for the life of us remember his last name. I remember he had said he had something to do with the initial creation of this list, he might have been at Bearsville, something we can't quite remember. My whole point is that he had a really cool story of how he obtained the tape (he also gave us the POY booklet (which we recently just had signed), some postcards that Jewel had put out on coffeehouse tables, a Save The Linoleum CD...) but the story of the tape is what I am interested in. If anyone knows anything or remembers this story being told way back then (I remember it, I am looking through back-digests today) please let me know- thanks! cristian & julie Meet the all-new My Yahoo!
