It's lonely to see a show alone, and when you drag someone else with you, you always feel guilty or feel like you hope Jewel has a good show so that she can impress them. I'd rather go watch a show with an EDA than a casual fan any day =) While it's tough to meet EDAs, it's great when you do. We're just a wacky crowd. Plus, we don't look weird when we gush over Jewel (we just do other weird things instead ;-) ). I don't know that many EDAs ... I wish I did. And I live in So Cal, so I guess I shouldn't have any excuses. But the few EDAs that I have met have been great. That's what makes this list great. It's not just about Jewel ... You guys lurked for the longest time. (Ibve been a little guilty of that myself.) Ibve been an EDA since 1998 and only recently started posting again. For those of us who donbt live on the East coast or in Southern California, and havenbt been able to travel to some of the bigger EDA gatherings such as the different recording sessions in New York, or the various Living Room Concerts, itbs still fun to hear the stories that come out of these gatherings. Getting the background on some of the inside jokes and nicknames is really appreciated. It helps for those of us who werenbt there but still want to enjoy the humor. Dennis, and others, has been very helpful lately in that department. Thanks. Distance seems to be the biggest obstacle to overcome in getting together personally for so many of our EDA friends. I live in southern Florida. Amy lives in northern Michigan. James, the middle of Indiana. And then there are the EDAs around the world. Too many miles for most of us. Most of the EDAs on the list never post. Thatbs fine. We all belong in our own way. I would however, like to strongly encourage even the shyest of EDAs to make an effort to meet other EDAs whenever you can. We probably have much more in common than just our love of bthe girlbsb music. Lara (an EDA from St. Petersburg) and I went to the Clearwater show together. Webd never met before, but had a wonderful time. No wild stories to tell but, it was much better seeing Jewel with someone else who gets her the same way I do. Are there really only 3 EDAs in the entire state of Florida? Congratulations Mac, you hit the gold mine! *** Amy enjoyed meeting Caitlin more than Jewel... Mac, move over and share that gold mine with Amy, okay? Larry Kookybaka coined the line "We started out as fans of Jewel, and ended up as fans of each other." Strange as it may sound, that's how it has always been for many of us on this list. You go to a show or gathering for Jewel-related reasons, and more often than not, you find someone (or several someones) to befriend. Personally, if I were to go to a Jewel show, and if one-tenth of the EDAs I've met over the past eight years was at the show, I'd have a difficult time giving Jewel much attention. I love her voice, and she has an interesting stage persona, but that's about it. I'm not a huge poetry fan and there aren't many movie roles for a blonde with "period teeth" (as Ang Lee put it), so I'm hoping she does fewer razor commercials and more music in the future. It's true that we have most of the gatherings in the northeast (around NYC and Boston) and southern California, but we've had them in Austin, Houston, New Orleans and Nashville in the past. Members of this list formed a non-profit organization called The EveryDay Angels Foundation back in 1997, and we are trying to get some new events off the ground in the next year. Besides the October 23rd Eve Selis EDAF concert in SoCal and Project Warmth shows in NYC and Boston this fall, we're looking at a long weekend getaway on Chincoteague Island, Virginia in the spring. Over 60 of us once met at Six Flags over New Jersey. We've done annual campouts in the Catskills. Paintball and laser tag afternoons. Lots of mini golf and arcade trips. I've threatened a Llama backpacking expedition on numerous occasions, and I think an EDA ski weekend would yield a good story or two. If anyone has any ideas for a gathering (no matter how bizarre), throw them out for public scrutiny. You never know, things happen. JewelStock resulted from Duff innocently asking if we could have a Jewel concert for the EDAs. While that may not happen again, something equally cool (or cooler) could. To understand how distance (and the lack of any Jewel presence whatsoever) can be overcome, well... ask Mike Connell about LizStock, held in the center of the universe (also known as Toledo). That is undoubtedly the "poster child" event of EDA Gatherings. BTW, I may roadtrip from Boston to the Florida Keys in the spring. You guys want to do something in Florida then? It works for me. It's a small world, and Route 95 happens to run from Canada through Massachusetts and New York, then all the way down to the tip of Florida... Harris. Well, they do have these new-fangled things called AIRPLANES! Dennis and I have used them several times to go to gatherings on the west coast, Nashville, Texas, and Louisiana. ;-) But for you midwesterners, it looks like there's going to be a Project Warmth concert in Illinois this year as well (and a few others yet to be announced). Look for official announcement of all the EDAF's Project Warmth shows coming soon!
