Amy, since 1996 I have gotten more personnel laughs and enjoyment out of 
meeting some of Jewel's family more than Jewel herself. Her father Atz is... well, 
let's just say that Atz is a unique person. Her brother Shane is probably my 
personal favorite from the Kilcher clan. He and Fran from the old 
HGH/Clearwater Team met with the EveryDay Angels Foundation (yep, the one we Jewel fans 
started seven years ago this November) and EDAs in Bearsville a few years back. 
The river tubing war games were fun, and the family stories very entertaining 
(though I think I'm still bound by vows of secrecy on a few of them). Shane 
knew every word to the Southpark movie Uncle F**ker song, too. Then again, he 
had Tom Proven to harmonize with that day on the bus.

I've most enjoyed my time with Jewel's musical peers from the San Diego area. 
Mary Dolan is joining several other SD musicians in performing at an EDAF 
Project Warmth show in October. Eve Selis is headlining, and I expect many of the 
old EDA-related artists to be around. So all you southern Californians had 
better resurface when Amy Llama-Neufeld and I fly out. This looks to be a great 
excuse for a full-blown week of EDA Gatherings.

That means Larry Kookybaka, Igor, Sinjin, the Vierlings, and all the other 
left coast EDAs need to start planning now! (otherwise, we'll go with my 
improvisational approach instead, and some of you already know where that usually 
leads).

Anyway, don't sweat not having much to say to Jewel. I mean, besides being 
from the same town, what are the odds y'all have much in common? I respect Lance 
Armstrong and he lives in my original hometown of Austin, but   he isn't 
going to invite me to ride with him one afternoon (which is a good thing, as I 
wouldn't be able to keep up with him on my best day, and my tires are flat). 
Celebrities usually aren't really accessible. If they were, they'd run out of 
time, and cease making money (or as much as they want to make).

The difference between catching Steve Poltz at a $10 backyard show or Jewel 
at a $65 stadium is that Jewel makes too much money to waste time getting to 
know everyone who wants to know her better. The same goes for actors and 
professional athletes. I avoid large shows and overly "successful" artists for that 
very reason. I actually pity the performer who has to isolate themselves from 
the public and only "meet and greet" when they are handsomely paid to act as 
the "dancing bear".

How would you feel being put on display and paid for some form of personal 
contact with needy fans? One thing we do very quickly is to make whores out of 
our celebrities. Is it surprising that they are so distant and want payment for 
any services rendered? That's why so many of the management groups (and the 
music business in general) are immediately recognizeable as pimps.

Sorry this post turned so serious, but one concept I've preached (and that's 
the right word) is that we're all on stage, and we all should take center 
stage in our own individual universe. No one is any more special than you, or me, 
or the person who lurks on this list and never posts. But there are some 
pretty cool folks out there who will share time with you, sing a song, tell a joke 
or split a cheese pizza with you if given the opportunity. The trick is to 
realize that, and find them. Many of us did that at JewelStock, and for the most 
part we've maintained the magic together, even if Jewel has lost sight of it 
from time to time.

So go to the next Jewel show, but meet the EDAs who sit on your side of the 
security fence. The coolest thing about Jewel is that she helps you meet others 
who are interested in some of the same things as you are (including Jewel's 
music). Spend the meet-and-greet velvet rope payola money on a pizza and 
pitcher of drinks after the show. You might even get introduced to some music you 
like even better!

Hey All,
I would also like an Alice and Wonderland please. I actually have a list of many songs I haven't been able to find anywhere, (though I do have a good number of 'claim-to-be-Jewel songs', some of which are and some have yet to be confirmed). ALSO, Jewel never came near enough to me since Instant Live starting, so I would love to buy an Instant Live from someone, any of them (I don't know which one's are the best), so someone please help me out!! And let me know which one is 'best'.

Actually, Dennis, you have a terrible memory (or perhaps just a creative 
one). I was standing right next to you and when you stood on a chair to hand 
Woody's head (yes, just the head though it wasn't on a platter) over to Jewel to 
sign she said something more along the lines of "what is THAT?" to which you 
replied in the most matter-of-fact voice "it's a plywood cow".
