I think that's how you spell it anyway. It has nothing to do with Madonna. "Primadonna" is a way of calling someone a diva, I think. Expects the star treatment and all that, I think. Now, I certainly don't think this of Jewel myself, I'm just saying that's kind of what primadonna means, and judging from the context of what they guy said, I think "pre-Madonna" was a typo, and this is what he meant, because he doesn't refer to Madonna anywhere else in the quote.
