Proceeds from ticket sales will go to Sidewalk Angels Foundation, a non-profit organization created by Rob and Marisol Thomas to aid those in need in and around America's big cities. Two hundred tickets will be sold by invitation for $250 each. A limited number of tickets will be sold in two three-day auctions on eBay starting July 19 and July 26. Sidewalk Angels Foundation (www.sidewalkangelsfoundation.com) works with charities to assist people who are destitute or homeless and get lost in the system; those who cannot afford proper medical care; and animals that have been abandoned or abused. It will donate the evening's proceeds to Pets Alive (www.petsalive.com), a no-kill animal shelter in Middletown, N.Y., whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and place animals in need. Victims of neglect, abuse and violence, many of the animals have special needs and have been rejected by other organizations. Pets Alive has been active in exposing several cases of puppy mills and farm animal abuse, and is the only retirement home for New York City carriage horses. Chereskin, a leading fashion designer for over 20 years and a staple of New York Fashion Week, is a longstanding supporter of animal causes. "I have always been a proponent of animals and animal rights. I even adopted a two-year-old Shar-Pei from a shelter," said Chereskin. "I am thrilled to be partnering with Rob and Marisol to raise funds and awareness for Sidewalk Angels Foundation. Its mission is close to my heart." Sidewalk Angels Foundation takes its name from the lyrics to Thomas' solo recording, "A New York Christmas." First released in 2002, the single's sales that year benefited Blythedale Children's Hospital in Valhalla, N.Y. Reissued for Christmas 2003, proceeds from the single were donated to Pets Alive. It was Rob and Marisol's interest in Pets Alive that spurred the creation of Sidewalk Angels Foundation. "Rob and I were deeply moved by the great work we saw being done by the dedicated people at Pets Alive, with very limited resources," said Marisol Thomas. "So we decided to do what we could to help small charities that are really struggling, especially those trying to succeed in the shadows of big cities. The organizations that Sidewalk Angels supports all have one thing in common: a very personal connection to our own lives and experiences. I want to thank Ron Chereskin for reaching out to us to host what we hope will be the first of many wonderful events." "I am thrilled to be able to join Marisol in doing what I can to help her in the development of Sidewalk Angels," added Rob Thomas. "We are both true believers in the great good that can be done by passionate, selfless individuals who are completely committed to their cause, very often with the deck stacked against them. They are sidewalk angels who have the power to change lives, and we hope we can do our part to help them on their way. I would also like to thank Jewel for joining me on August 3 to play music for Sidewalk Angels." Rob Thomas is the lead vocalist of Atlantic recording group matchbox twenty, which has sold over 25 million albums worldwide. Thomas has received a number of songwriting honors, including three Grammy Awards (for his collaboration with Carlos Santana, "Smooth"); a remarkable 11 BMI Awards, including 1999 BMI Pop Songwriter of the Year and 2002 BMI Pop Song of the Year for "If You're Gone"; and Billboard Songwriter of the Year honors for two years running. Most recently, Thomas was the first recipient of the Starlight Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame. At the event, Thomas will preview never-before-heard songs from his forthcoming debut solo album. Also performing will be Thomas' fellow Atlantic recording artist Jewel. Since making her debut nearly a decade ago, Jewel has been celebrated as one of the most gifted and accomplished singer/songwriters in popular music today, with worldwide sales of over 25 million. Her most recent collection, entitled "0304," entered the Billboard album chart at #2, becoming both the highest-debuting and highest-charting release of her career to date. Chereskin is slated to show the Spring 2005 collection of his upscale Studio Chereskin label on September 8, 2004. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Aug 2004 04:43:38 -0700 (PDT) From: Louise Subject: [EDA] Lyon's Den on next Tuesday night for Australian fans Hey angels, Channel 7 is showing Lyon's Den again.
