I love Jewel's sense of humor and possible cognizance that this would be a fun, bouncy tune to hear after an evening of touching but gentle acoustic serenades! I loved my 11th Jewel concert!! Have great a productive days fellow EDAs everywhere. BTW, if there is anyone who is willing to buy an InstantLive CD for me at an upcoming show I WILL make it worth your trouble. Many, many thanks if you can extend this kindness. I can get the money to you fast, I promise. The boy who needs a (dirt) bike, -Tim C. I don't post much, but figured I had to comment on this. I went to the show at Robinsonville a couple of weeks ago and as soon as the concert was over, they played MC Hammer. I agree that Jewel must pick her pre and post-concert music, or maybe it was just a coincidence...... - ------------------------------ Yeah, at the end of Jewel's June 16 concert at Wente Vineyards in Livermore, CA, they also played 'U Can't Touch This'/MC Hammer. It struck me as odd, but y'know. Jewel's got an ironic sense of humor, so... ;) (ROFL, I'm watching I Love the 90s, and MC Hammer just came on the TV. Oddly enough, they could have included her in ILt90s 1995 (year of PoY, if I remember right?) but didn't. Hehe ... it was cool. At first I thought Edwin McCain was talking bad about her, but he didn't. He just said that she was a speed yodeler and that she didn't take crap from people. They played the Kurt Loder clip and Lilith Fair clips. I don't remember much, but I taped it. They're bound to repeat it. Second, in this month's Rollingstone, they ran a "clarification" in the letters section. "Reports of trouble at Jewel's May 21st show at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom in New Hampshire in Random Notes [RS 951] may have been greatly exaggerated. It is not correct that Jewel had 'an ontstage meltdown' and played only five songs in an hour; rather, the show ran for thirteen songs. While it was clear that the crowd was rowdier than normal, Jewel herself says, 'I want my fans to be assured that there was no breakdown. My true fan base knows what my live shows are about, and there was nothing out of the ordinary about this show.' Rollingstone is pleased to correct the record." =D Elizabeth P.S. OMG, I'm so jealous that she played Nicotine Love! I wish I could request it at the next show, but I'll be waaay far away. I'm checking her out at the Disney Hall show. I'm thinking about that AIDS event thing. I actually wanted to go when I first heard about the event; Jewel just gives me an extra reason to go =) Too bad it's so darn expensive! And the tax deductible thing doesn't do ME any good since I don't make enough money anyway ... ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jul 2004 04:40:38 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: Re: [EDA] I Love the 90s (1997) Ian Jones wrote: >Just saw I Love the 90s (1997), and Jewel was mentioned. Weird. True (re: 1995, POY) , but no one had really heard of her until 1996. WWSYS was climbing the charts the summer of 1996, but Jewel's big year really was 1997 with the You Were Meant For Me and Foolish Games double-whammy. She owned 1997 musically and it was that year that she was "all over the place" on TV, VH1, the radio etc. Mike Mike ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jul 2004 09:02:34 -0400 From: GWJewelGrL@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] RE: Miranda's email I know that I have heard or seen (can't remember where) something along the lines that most artists choose the music that plays pre and post concert. Washington | July 16, 2004 3:47:35 PM IST Singer Jewel has revealed that she was glad to go straight on tour after the death of her bassist last summer because it helped keep her mind off the tragedy. Jewel was extremely upset when Terome 'T-Bone' Hannon died from a brain aneurysm shortly after she released her album 0304 and just days before she was due to take her full band on tour. "I think it was good for me. It's good to be alone on stage because you can't hide and you can't fake it. You can't sort of turn off and go through the motions," rate the music quoted Jewel as saying. If I was home right now I could get you all the exact details, but my best recollection is that it was dubbed something like "Bedtime with Jewel". Jewel was shown in a very brief intro while an announcer's voice said something to the effect of "and now it's time to tuck yourself in and enjoy a bedtime reading from Jewel". She then read the poem in an outstandingly "cute" setting and before you knew it, it was over and onto a video. I was usually too excited to sleep after having seen these little Jewel snippets :) I've always been of the opinion that they must have filmed more than just the five and that more exist somewhere and these are the types of things that fans should somehow be granted access to (wouldn't that be a nice offering from a fanclub that actually had some connections and a little creativity behind it's authoring). Anyway, I wish we could have seen more of those. I'm not greedy but I would liked to have seen her read the entire book. Jewels voice sounded great, but the show was very boring in my opinion. She played all of her songs at half speed. I personally wanted to hear some up beat songs. A personal favorite "Life Uncommon" was played very slow and dragged out, the same with "hands", "Down so Long", and "Intuition". I was not impressed, but that's my opinion. I really like her last tour, it had so much energy. This show was boring, with some good jokes mixed in. Plus she only played 1 song off 0304. I wanted to hear a few songs off the album. I can hear all the older songs played on bootlegs. OK, now some good stuff: Instant Live Cd, saved me the trouble of recording it myself. Although they did not have the poem she read at the end of the show on the cd. She read it for a guy who did the meet and greet at the very end. New songs premiered Pretty good seats through the Fan club- 7th row just off to the side. Although I saw people get theirs through ticketmaster for $40.50 as opposed to our $65 presale and they were closer in the front and in the middle. But I still did have a very nice seat.
