Yep. Actually, the same idea comes up every coupla years when gas prices are high. hasn't worked before, nothing different this year... but for some reason people expect a different outcome. I suppose to the true believers, they just figure they need more people participating. > 1. Consider this: If 100% of the driving population didn't buy gas that one day, stations could safely raise prices on the days before and after, knowing there would be an increase in sales due to the day off. To the point: If you drive the same as always, you're still burning up just as much gas. Shifting it a day either way does nothing. If you want to make a difference, take the bus or train or even just carpool one day. THAT would actually make a dent. 4% of the driving population ride sharing with just ONE other person would save about a MILLION barrels of oil a day. > 2. I still laugh that people complaining about spending 2.50/gal for gas are paying about TEN bucks per gallon for bottled water. > 3. At the end of the interview Howard asked her about Jewel. Howard: What do you think of Jewel's image change ? Alanis: Interesting choice. Howard: Do you think she's a sellout ? Alanis: I'm not familiar with her new music. Howard: She's dressing up like Britney Spears and trying to be a pop star. Alanis: Well aren't we all deeply profound and flakey at the same time ? Howard: No, I'm just flakey, not deeply profound. _________________________________________________________________ FREE pop-up blocking with the new MSN Toolbar get it now! http://toolbar.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200415ave/direct/01/ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 May 2004 10:31:24 -0700 (PDT) From: Ian Jones Subject: [EDA] Re: jewel-digest V9 #143 >Date: Mon, 17 May 2004 23:40:54 -0700 >From: "Alisa Petersen" >Subject: [EDA] gas boycott > >May 19th is the official day of boycotting gas- let's do it! read the >attachment! > Ummm... Not that it really belongs on the list anyway, but a one-day boycott wouldn't work. People would just buy more gas on the 18th or the 20th, totally negating the impact of the 'boycott.'
