This article came out recently in a Massachussetts paper about the EDAF. There are a few incorrect facts, but that's par for the course. Overall its pretty accurate and he spelled all the names right! The article also talked about another group but I cut out the paragraphs concerning them (not that they're not a good group I just didn't have time to do that much typing!). The deleted paragraphs are noted with a "..." If anyone would like to get involved with the EDAF or Project Warmth let us know at EDAFinfo@aol.com. Amy ****************************************************** Neighbors Helping Neighbors By Mike Stucka Taunton Sunday Gazette April 18, 2004 Two Taunton-based groups made a difference in the fall, part of a nationwide charitable push recognized in todaybs edition of bUSA Weekendb. An anti-violence group was formed around the Oct. 23 Make A Difference Day; the other group is formed largely around the Internet, using its connections to collect coats for the needy across the country. b& Another group with Taunton ties made a difference by gathering dozens of coats and blankets on that day. The EveryDay Angels Foundation, which started with people nationwide on a music mailing list, helped organize drives for Project Warnth. East Taunton resident Dennis Harris, the president of the group since it was founded in 1997, said musicians from Connecticut to California organized shows to collect the coats and other clothes. In Sacramento, Calif., as many as 10 bands played in a barn, Harris said. b& Harris said the EveryDay Angels Foundation started when people who listened to singer/songwriter and national recording artist Jewel got together before her career took off. They were in Woodstock, N.Y., where Jewel was recording: About 180 people, ages 15 to 84, gathered together. Then there were more gatherings. bAs we would go to other concerts, we realized we enjoyed seeing each other more than we enjoyed the music,b he said. Members of the group started talking about doing more, and in 1997 the foundation was chartered in California. They took their name from, naturally enough, a Jewel song. Recalls group treasurer Amy Neufeld of New Jersey: bIt seemed like everybody had some sort of idea about volunteering, so we decided to eventually make a formal organization.b The group is still formed around the Internet, but has organized beach cleanups on Cape Cod and in New Jersey, as well as concert benefits in Texas, California and elsewhere. Neufeld said the group is aiming higher. bThis year webre hoping to expand it to concerts and sporting events. It could be anything, it could be a party or any kind of event,b she said. Harris said he is hoping to collaborate to get more local events this summer, as well as to celebrate Make A Difference Day in the fall. More information on Make A Difference Day and the awards appear in todaybs b USA Weekendb insert, with additional information online at www.makeadifferencday.com.
