(tix prices) there are concert ticket prices and then there are casino concert ticket prices. many high rollers get in for free so us saps have to make up the difference. happens at foxwoods, too. tix were 85 bucks last year and all the gamblers dressed in nice suits with their wampum cards get in and even got the pick of the seats. yes it was general admission. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Apr 2004 19:49:51 +1000 From: "Stephen H." Subject: [EDA] concert ticket prices... The issue has to do with the promoter making money. Jewel is a much bigger name than most of the artists that play the venues she's playing right now... she can charge a MUCH higher per-show fee than most artists playing the same venues.... Therefore higher ticket prices are necessary for promoters to recoup their costs and also make a profit (which is, lets face it, the object of the whole exercise). Think of it this way - If she's playing an 1800 seat venue and the average ticket price is $60 - that's approximately $108 000 in revenue from ticket sales, if the venue sells out. If you reduce that price to $30 (average), that's $54 000 (for a sellout). But, if you only sell 1000 of those seats at the $60 average, you would make $60 000. So even at 55% capacity, the promoter still makes more money with the higher ticket price than with a sellout at lower prices. And despite "diminished popularity", Jewel will usually still sell way above a 55% capacity.. eg: 8 out of 11 shows in April were either sold out or almost sold out (like 90%+ capacity). Jewel could play larger venues, charge less money and that would work... and on band tours she does do that. The This Way Tour featured several 8000 capacity open-air amphitheatres (Chastain in Atlanta & Fleet Pavillion in Boston - both of which sold out) as well as even a couple of 10-15 000 capacity venues (Red Rocks, PNC in New Jersey and Jones Beach in Long Island)... and the tour that was scheduled to back 0304 had many of the same venues on the itinerary. However, it's obvious that on this acoustic tour, Jewel wants to be playing small, intimate venues. They make for MUCH better shows. Big outdoor venues are a social, chatty environment... it's perfect for a band-show.... but Jewel's acoustic performances suffer when it's in that environment. The good news (for those concerned with ticket prices) is that she is doing a bit of that on the July leg of this tour. There's a few open-air amphitheatre dates where the prices go down to like $35 (for the cheapest ticket). I would personally rather pay more to see her in a better environment (eg Massey Hall in Toronto which I can't WAIT to see... or the Opera House in Sydney which I did see, and was amazing!). Steve. PS - Mike you should just go to one of those Turning Stone shows. That venue is 800 capacity (which is why she's playing two shows in a row that night)... it's probably the closest you'll EVER get to a "Jewelstock experience" again... by which I mean - tiny venue, acoustic performance etc... Although you better hurry up cause according to Ticketmaster both shows are virtually sold out. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Apr 2004 22:32:20 +0200 From: "michiel" Subject: [EDA] jewel and jessica duet ...wwsys hi jewelfans, On my forum on my site www.jewelkilcher.nl , you will find the link to the jewel and jessica song! i hope you enjoy this version of jewel kilcher and jessica simpson bye michiel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Apr 2004 10:33:06 -0500 From: "James Brogdon" Subject: [EDA] Ticket Prices.. I only paid $50 + $10 Fees per ticket to see her in Louisville.. And if you look at that one *cough* place on the internet where everyone sells everything, you can usually find better tickets for less than face value.. or at least I was seeing that early in her tour. Here's what they say: JEWEL GOES LO-FI JEWEL has been at work on her fifth album, with plans to release the follow-up to 2003's "0304" next year. The folk-pop singer-songwriter claims she has more than 400 songs to choose from for her sixth album, none of which will resemble her recent dance-oriented material. "It's going to be really lo-fi," she told Rolling Stone. The album will feature songs that Jewel has played live for years but never recorded, including "Rosy and Mick" and "Everything Breaks." ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V9 #118 ***************************
