I met her on this list a few years ago and we wrote everyday. Then I went through a marriage, a divorce and moved around a lot and we just lost contact. I was just wanting to see what she has been up to and I don't know her e-mail address anymore. I'm not asking for her e-mail address, but if someone knows her, maybe you could e-mail her and have her e-mail me or something. Thanks in advance, Jessica Boyd (Jessica Prenzel was my married name when she knew me) Yahoo! Atlantic tried VERY hard to kill the JewelStock tapes distribution and put immense pressure on Lenedra but she persevered not wanting to go back on a promise to the list. They weren't even happy (at first) with the JewelTide Carols "holiday & thanks" CD that was sent to friends and the media way back when. They love to control things in regard to what music anyone gets. On the other hand, it would somewhat surprise me since I would have expected the NuJ-team to have the blessings from Atlantic before they announced this. Time will tell. Mike P.S. Despite critics' reviews, Jewel remains a success By Donnie Snow April 16, 2004 Jewel Kilcher's current solo acoustic tour is a stark contrast to last year's dance/pop release, 0304. That record created major waves in the music world and among the singer/songwriter's fans who argued the folkie was following the pop path that punk princess Liz Phair set out on at about the same time. The electronic beats are what most heard, that and the disparate styles on songs like "Intuition." Critics said it smacked of an aging singer trying to sound young. "I don't really think it was different," Jewel said in a telephone interview. She'll perform at Grand Casino Saturday. "If you listen to the songs, they all could go on any of my other records." 0304 debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard chart and went gold despite the criticism. All the same, Jewel's not planning anything like it for her next record - the last on her contract with longtime label Atlantic Records. The album will contain a lot of live tracks as well as studio material she might get to record in August, she said. Mostly, though, it'll be these solo shows she's been playing since the sudden death in September of T Bone Hannon that will shape the sound of her next record. Reports of a live concert CD proved false, unfortunately. Jewel said Atlantic had a problem with the idea. Not yet 30, Jewel's lore includes a childhood deprived of television, telephone and toilet. The yodeling Alaskan folkie broke out of the coffee-house circuit with her debut album, Pieces of You, recorded in 1994. It took a while for the singer/songwriter to break through grunge-packed airwaves, and she seems somewhat bitter about it. "Radio won't put a lot of female voices on the air," she said. And though she and other young women are selling lots of records, she's reluctant to allow that women are gaining respect in the marketplace. "I hate it when journalists say that women are now salable commodities," she said. "I think women songwriters have had cycles of success, from Joni Mitchell to Carole King to Etta James." Jewel has had her own brushes with success. Songs like "Who Will Save Your Soul," nearly a Top 10 hit, helped her sell more than 10 million albums of her debut. (She's sold over 25 million total.) Subsequent offerings, Spirit, in 1998, and This Way, in 2001, yielded hits. None achieved the success of her debut, but her fan base was devout. They stayed through a poetry record and books (the book sold more than a million copies). Now she's pitching L'Oreal's Feria hair color products on TV and she performed on the "The Nick & Jessica Variety Hour." Her current tour has been described as something of a comfortable, request-friendly show reminiscent of her coffeehouse days. - --- Chris. http://www.jewelfan.co.uk : Jewel - Pieces Of UK http://www.jewelkilcher.nl/forum/ : not the Official Jewel Forum ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Apr 2004 13:44:06 -0700 (PDT) From: Jason Quattrini Subject: [EDA] Need Tickets for Foxwoods Hey, if anybody happens to come across extra tickets for the Foxwoods show, I'd be more than appreciative if you would contact me :) I went to see Weird Al last night in the same theater, and it's a really nice place. I think I saw Jewel there a few years back. I planned on going to see her with my father and brother this time, but my brother wouldn't make up his mind whether he was going or not, and by the time he decided to go, it was all sold out :( Anyway, if you do have/get extras, please let me know. I don't read that as Atlantic putting the kibash on the "selling the concert you just saw" CDs at the shows but rather that her next official release won't be a live concert CD due to Atlantics' problems with it. Someone asked what a dulcimer is..if you watch Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" performance on vh1 divas..she plays one. I'm sure they'll be showing the show all week. Also, did Jewel play the Dulcimer for the Wedding Song, or did someone else. And what all instruments can she play, besides guitar. I know on Cribs she said that she can't really play the piano that well, or something like that. love ya, shawney the hippie angel ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand!
