Craig, Welcome back! That would be "Nikos" (one of like 5 songs that made me cry at JewelStock when I first heard it). She has since changed the title to "Brother" and the names of Nikos (to brother) and Linda (I forgot what to). Mike __________ Nikos by Jewel Kilcher She lived in a trailer out eastern road Her loneliness was a disease But my daddy couldn't see it though Her name was Linda her smile was forced And folks 'round town say she dressed like a divorce My daddy had a son by her 'though she wasn't supposed to be able I was eight years old when they told me 'round the table I looked at my daddy, he looked to the ground I guessed that we'd be stickin' round ahwile Might as well smile cause there's no point in being mean I guess that's just what you get when you forget to dream Got called to the principal's office Did I do something wrong? Doctor on the telephone said, "Congratulations, you've got a baby brother born." Got sent to a psychiatrist in case I resented their child. I was bitter in my anguish but my manner was mild. My daddy got excommunicated from the Mormon church. Guess an illegitimate son in God's eye has no worth He tried to stick around but he flew the coop in spring. He loved that baby just not Linda it seemed But still I know we'd be stickin' round awhile Might as well smile cause there's no point in bein' mean. I guess that's just what you get when you forget to dream. So Linda got remarried now my brother called that new man "dad" But it didn't last long I hear his temper was bad So she said that we could see him on every other Saturday. We all were shocked when he called my daddy "uncle" She said it was better that way. They tried to get back together but it was off and on One day she disappeared, I hear to Oregon. I haven't seen him since. I guess I'm supposed to forget. That he was my brother too and not just their legal mess I thought that we'd be stickin' 'round awhile Might as well smile 'cause there's no point in bein' mean. I guess that's just what you get when you forget to dream. This song is for Nikos wherever you may be I know things were tough but you're okay by me And your momma ain't a bad person, my daddy's ain't no fool Sometimes parents just need forgiving too. Well I am disappointed! My tickets that I got from UN EDIT early, ended up being general admission with no seats. So I believe the Big Easy Co. is selling themselves to Singers and Ticket Promoters at UN EDIT and Ticket Masters everywhere FALSELY. The Big Easy is a over glorified dance bar with a small stage and not enough room or comfort for a nice big concert like Jewel's should be.... And the only way to get to sit on a "bar stool" which is all they have to sit on there in the first place, is to go to there dinner restaurant 4 hours yearly and then at 6:45 pm they open up the concert doors to dinner guests only first to find a bar stool to sit on in places only for drinkers on the main floor or on the balcony, which was closest to the bars and good viewing of the stage. If you are not going to drink then you stand up all night with all the kids who are under 21 on the floor in front of the small stage. My sister and I got to the big easy at 4:30 to check it out and ended up staying in line that had started at that time, we were number 9 &10 in line, so from 4:30 till about 7:10 we were in line with everyone else who came to the concert yearly. My main grip is with the Big Easy dance hall for taking advantage of singers and promoters who sell their tickets to us who have not a clue as to what this new joint is all about. I hope Jewel never plays the big easy again, I do have a clue now!!and I am going to make sure everyone else who goes to the big easy for any concert will know before hand, what to expect when they get there. Spokane has a big Opera House for Jewel to be in. So please if anyone on this list knows the powers to be for Jewel - please tell them about the big easy chains that are poping up everywhere now. But the one thing that did kept me there was Jewels Voice, and she did that amazingly well. She sang "To Darn Hot" Acapella - and "Chime Bells" acapella with the yodeling in it. She sang race car driver with the story too. And seems like to me she did her rock list of songs.and she did it up good to. And maybe one of her new songs from her new CD. Anyway she is the best singer in the world. Sorry for the ranting on and on but just needed to share. Fabio ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Mar 2004 12:15:49 -0800 From: "Melissa Bruce" Subject: [EDA] Nick and Jessica Variety Hour Sorry I'm posting days after the event, but it ended up being something not really worth mentioning and I needed to catch up on my sleep. I said I'd post about it so here it is: Jewel was the first performer of the night, she sang only 1 song (WWSYS) which happened to be "Jessica's favorite song," so it ended up being a duet with her of course. They had to sing it 3 or 4 times because Jessica kept messing up the lyrics (and everything else throughout the night), so they would have to stop, and start all over again, starting from the segment intro which Jessica also had to do a few times, each time, because she couldn't get that right either lol. Jewel was wearing a light yellow halter top, that was surprisingly really cute (I could never be able to describe this shirt and give it the justice it deserves... it was really cute for a yellow halter top lol and it looked stunning on Jewel). It was kind of bunchy at the bottom and was made of a gauze-like fabric that laced up loosely and tied on the side w/ a satin yellow ribbon. She wore blue jeans and those gold chandelier earrings that she likes to wear a lot (I couldn't see her shoes so can't describe those :p). Her hair was straight, parted on the side, sleek and shinny. Her bangs are *very* flattering on her (I wasn't too crazy about them until now). I really like them, they are thin and elegant and aren't bushy and awkward at all like they are in those pics Michiel first posted. Her hair looks just like her old hair when she would part it on the side, and have her long bangs swoop over her forehead and tucked in behind her ears, only now she has cute little bangs that she swiped to the side. Very cute :). In between takes when Jewel and Jessica were getting their makeup/hair retouched, I yelled up to Jewel, "I like your new haircut," (even though I know it's not that new anymore) and she said, "What? Who said that?" So I raised my hand, she looked at me, and I said again, "I really like your new haircut." In that joking flirty/sultry/diva voice that she does, she tilted her head to the right, pushed her bangs to the side of her forehead (like a diva), batted her eyelashes and said, "Why, thank you." She was really funny like always, teasing Jessica about her big boobs and how Jessica kept messing up and couldn't remember her easy lines. She was overall in a really good mood so that was nice. There was some sort of an inside joke with Jewel, Jessica and the crew, because every time Jessica would mess up and need to gather her composure or get into role, she would pat the top of her head, with the palm of her flat open hand before she started again. Jewel did this a few times to herself and once to Jessica also, so I don't know what was up w/ that lol. I think that was Jewel's way of telling Jessica to get it together. Jewel was there for maybe 20 minutes tops of the 8 hours we were expected to be there. I left early around 11:30 PM so I never heard the time/date when it's going to air (they were going to give us that info at the very end). I heard them mention something about an HBO special though, but they never said anything directly to us in the time I was there. I'm sure it'll be posted somewhere out there on the net, so I'll let everyone know when I find out. ....in the words of the great Forest Gump, "...and that's all that I have to say about that." :) Melee ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Mar 2004 12:43:05 -0800 From: "Melissa Bruce" Subject: Re: [EDA] air date(s)... I'm watching Grease right now on VH1, the number "Summer Nights" in particular, and am trying to picture Ms Kilcher in the role of Sandy. I see no problem with this number (Summer Nights) and some of the others. Just wondering if she could pull them all off and be true to the play? I know she'd have a blast doing it. It's a fun play and a fun role. Wouldn't mind seeing her commit to a play (musical) in NY City sometime for 6 months or so. Would be neat. Whaddya all think? I used to watch it like 3 times a week when I was little; even now it still gets a run through my dvd player pretty often. I could totally see Jewel playing Sandy lol (dressed in black saying 'tell me about it, Stud') Jewel+Grease=my dream! okay not really, but would be pretty cool! ;o) I agree Mike, I think Jewel would be great in any kind of stage show actually; she'd be great in a comedy because she knows how to work the crowd well. I think she'd be hilarious okay enough rambling from me, luv Lauren - ------------------------------ *~"ThEre'S OnLY oNE RiGht WaY; & iT'S mY WaY."~* - -JEWEL >From: Mike Connell >To: jewel@smoe.org >Subject: [EDA] Jewel as Sandy in Grease? >Date: Sun, 14 Mar 2004 18:57:08 -0500 > >I'm watching Grease right now on VH1, the number "Summer Nights" in >particular, and am trying to picture Ms Kilcher in the role of Sandy.
