Serious shakeup at Warner Music... Hmmm. This could be quite a good tool for Jewel. She is by far one of the biggest...second only to a few....selling artists for Atlantic. Though her album sales have dipped, she has still sold around 20 million albums for the Atlantic...which is where they get most of their money from the artist. Atlantic has given her basic control over what she puts out, which may cause her to re-nogotiate her contract with them. She writes her songs on the album and does the music for them, so the only thing she can really ask for is more money from each album. Will she get it, probably. She also has the opportunity to follow Ron Shapiro...which, most-likely, she will. He has been a huge supporter of her, and without his bitching and moaning and putting his career on the line, she would not be Jewel that is known to the world. He helped her a lot and chances are she will feel obligated to him. She could simply say he is to be a big wig at the record company or there is no chance that I will be putting out another record for you. Will other labels be putting in bids for her...a few. Chances are Arista or Sony would love to snatch her up. Can't wait to see what will happen! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Mar 2004 13:56:16 -0300 From: "Fabio" Subject: Re: [EDA] Finally something to talk about! Serious shakeup at Warner Music... Aww... I can't believe they let Ron Shapiro go! That's too bad for Jewel... I don't know what are Jewel's plans but if she stays with Warner, I'd guess it's because it's safier and, well, worth more money. But if she moves to another label, or even a small label, say, Blue Note (Norah's label), I believe she'll be willing to make some concessions in order to really be who she wants to be. Well, only time will tell, but I wouldn't worry much about her future. I got row C (which is actually 6 from stage because of AA - CC in the very front) and looks to be about center according to the seating chart! So I am pretty satisfied with those ticket spots -- and my new T-shirt that came with them. So just wanted to let people know that they seem to be keeping some of the Unedited promises. Next thing is to figure out how to record it. Any suggestions? T ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 03 Mar 2004 22:51:40 +1100 From: "Stephen H." Subject: Re: [EDA] Finally something to talk about! Serious shakeup at Warner Music... I think she hasn't had much a say over Ron's depature... he's gone already. And I doubt she would be able to dictate a record company actually HIRE him. But, he'll probably get another high powered job elsewhere pretty fast. There is a lot of shaking up going on at the moment so if he wants to get back into a major label he'll probably be able to do that... and then he'll probably be able to influence the company to sign Jewel, if she really wants to stick with him. But I agree.. I think Warner will definitely want to keep her, and it'll be a question of whether she wants to stay or not. It probably will depend on how much of the staff she's used to dealing with get sacked (aside from Ron Shapiro) and how she feels about the new management, the new boss etc.. I really hope someone from her management gives us some kind of an idea of what's going on with her soon... whether she's considering other deals or what. Cause she'll probably have to re-negotiate with Warner ANYWAY since Atlantic is being dissolved into the big company... I mean her contract will have to be at re-worded in certain ways. Can't wait to see what happens either! PS - she's sold 25 million albums for Atlantic all up. She is one of their biggest selling artists ever yeah... and she's still very viable... had a record debut at #2 in the last year... she's safe, and in fact would be a great person to sign for any other record company. > Hmmm. My guess is that she'll do a start up label. Just my opinion, I could be wrong. But I doubt it. (Thanks Dave!)
