It didn't sound like her, but at the chorus, I kind of jumped up (and scared my friend) because I thought it might have been Jewel and that the [not-so]J-Team didn't tell us something big! But then I listened carefully and realized it wasn't her. Anyway, the singer was Bonnie McKee. I checked out the soundtrack and it's a pretty good CD. It's a fun, pop CD if you're into that kind of thing. The song she has on there is called "Somebody." Check it out here: http://www-scf.usc.edu/~elizabtn/pics/%20Bonnie_McKee_Somebody.mp3 Sometimes, she sounds A LOT like Jewel - it's so weird! Also, her site is: http://www.bonniemckee.com/player/ She is only 18 and writes her own music - or so it seems. The song, "When It All Comes" is good too. It's track 3 on the player site. Anyone else heard of her? Elizabeth ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Jan 2004 17:30:20 +1100 From: "Stephen H." Subject: [EDA] Jewel, SoulCityCafe and Higher Ground/Clearwater.... Hey Guys Something interesting... apparently Jewel is no longer directly associated with Clearwater. Somebody on a message board said that they called Clearwater to find out how to post a donation to "Jewel's charity", and the staff at Clearwater said that Jewel was no longer directly associated with Clearwater, and that if you want to donate to Jewel's charities you have to make a cheque out to "Jewel Charities" and the money will get distributed across all the various charity efforts that Jewel supports. I'm not sure if this applies to Higher Ground for Humanity or not... but I assume it does. I wasn't sure if this was true or not, but the recent auctions of tickets for the Australian Tour and the March US Tour don't benefit Clearwater directly, the way the ones last year did. The Aussie tour auction benefits a local Aussie charity and the US Tour benefits "Jewel Charities". The thing with Jewel's management is that they weren't just her management. They were a body of people that managed her career, worked on higher ground, AND worked on soulcitycafe. The reason that Jewel was able to do higher ground and soulcity was partly because she had this pre-existing staff that ran her career, so she had the resources to give to clearwater and SCC. When she switched management, that luxury ended. You can't expect a pre-existing management company that is setup solely to run the careers to musicians to all of a sudden take on things like higher ground and SCC... that would be ridiculous. That's not their job. Jewel was lucky cause she was essentially self-managed, in that she had her own staff running her career. But now that she's under the management of Irving Azoff, his staff is running her career and they have no obligation to participate in her side projects. I didn't realise it had affected HGH and Clearwater though... it's possible that they've broken off from Jewel officially for some tax reason or whatever. And I'm sure some of the money that comes into "Jewel Charities" still benefits Clearwater... but it's interesting to note that the official tie has been cut. It also appears that Clearwater still remains an under-project of HGH, and there is a still mention of J & L on that Clearwater site too. Of course it could be that all the websites have just not been updated to reflect the latest and greatest connections since the bloodletting in Jewel's management last year. My guess is that Lenedra and gang still "operate" Higher Ground For Humanity in some capacity while perhaps Clearwater is still associated but not under any reins of HGH, Lenedra nor Jewel. Again, just an educated guess. Perhaps some EDAF members have some info. Dennis? Amy?
