I... understand them perfectly. Having a Jewel album that makes you skip half the songs is truly very frustrating. > >P.S. All hail Kathleen Edwards!!! Failer is album of the year for sure! :) >- -- >Have fun and stay beautiful, > >Mr. Moon, an angel with the weirdest stroke of luck and a flash > of revelation > > > That is totally beside the point. It has nothing to do with what Joni Mitchell did and didn't do with her sound... it has to do with having a little respect and not being so quick to assume you can guess another person's motives... particularly somebody you SHOULD be offering your respect to because they paved the way for your own career. This isn't supposed to be a discussion about the merits of 0304... I've had that discussion way too many times. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of whether or not they like it... in fact I I don't mind the John Mayer comment so much... so he doesn't like the song and was explaining why... so ok, fine, that's his opinion. The Michelle Branch thing annoyed me cause she's basically saying "oh we all know why she made that record... she's a sellout... blah blah". How does Michelle Branch think she has to right to assume she "knows" why Jewel made 0304... only Jewel knows why she made 0304 and she's given a lot of pretty valid and sane reasons as to why she made it that don't involve her album sales... who does Michelle Branch think she is to go around making snide comments like that. I just think it indicates more about HER than about Jewel... she's the one posing naked in Maxim... selling more records is obviously something on her mind and she's projecting that onto Jewel... as if the only reason Jewel would make 0304 is to sell more records. So yeah... it's not to do with the quality or lack-thereof of 0304... it's to do with respecting the artistic decisions of somebody that paved the way for your own career and not assuming you know everything when you don't. It's just about respect. The artistic merits or 0304 are irrelevant. In fact I might be the newest. I joined the list hoping to find other people who enjoyed Jewel's music. Slight background music, preferably accoustic guitar, and her voice is something I have loved from the moment I heard her on the radio. My favorites to date are on the earlier albumbs when she'd add a few live recordings or the first one which itself had some live recordings. I never searched the internet for sites or e-mail groups though. To tell you the truth, I only did it a few weeks ago because I finally got a comuter that records CDs and I could accomplish the one thing I've wanted for so long...to have some live recordings I could listen to on the way to and from work. With 3 children, I cherish my one hour commute to work. I love listening to Jewel's voice as I drive. It's the only "quiet time" there is! Anyway, I sort of stumbled onto the site to join this group. I'm not much of an internet surfer. At 37, I don't know how I rank age-wise here. But, in the short time I've been on the list, I can say I have found a group of people who love her voice and the simplicity of her message and the great range of her voice. I don't know any of the behind-the-scenes info that many of you seem to know, but I'm sure I'll learn some over time. I can also say that I am delighted beyond words to have found not only some live recordings but also of somgs I never knew before! Boy Needs a Bike is now one of my favorites. It's like Christmas every time I find a new one I haven't heard before! There are some titles I've seen but haven't heard yet, like Wild Horses, but now I have so much to look forward to. It may be old hat to many of you, but to me it's like a gift that keeps openeing! The chances of me getting to q gathering are snall with so many family thiongs going on a I would not want to see Jewel in a large venue when she comes to NY. I live on Long Island. So, these live recordings are probably as close as I'll get to a live show. I've made a CD of somgs that are new to me and thank God it's a CD because I'd wear it out if it were a record! I for one, am glad you guys are here and that I've found this list. Now I can look forward to discovering more all the time, and aside from love and family, that's what life is all about!
