Well, I just had a look on IMDB anyway and there's no sign of her anywhere near that film, so it's probably a lie anyway. The film looks pretty good though - and if it's any consolation it does have Jack White in it :) Cheers, Tom ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Dec 2003 03:34:39 EST From: Jewelpoltz@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] UnSub'ing from Unedited? Well, if I ever want to go on the Velvet Rope Tour, I will have to re-subscribe. Unedited is not even close to being worth what they change. It is rather rediculous. There should at least be some kind of welcome package with a t-shirt or something. Anyone else heard anything? As we're not getting much information from Jewel's new management, this list is going to be more important at least as the only real source of news about Jewel. This, of course, it is already happening. While I won't have Jewel's book of love poems for Valentine's Day, I will have Jewel herself, at the "Day on the Green" concert in the wine country of the Hunter Valley. Reminds me of poems by the great Iranian poet (and astronomer, mathematician and philosopher) Omar Khayyam -- wine and my beloved on a summer's evening. (remember all the cameos in the third austin powers movie? but they didn't list tom cruise etc. as being in the movie, nor was it mentioned in advertising etc.) ~ Sandy ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Dec 2003 10:18:56 -0600 From: "Gillian Reynolds" Subject: Re: [EDA] cameo movie appearance? >that doesn't mean it's not true. a cameo, for those people who are getting >confused and thinking Jewel's name should be listed as a star, is a short >guest spot as herself. where she's not playing a character, she is >actually >just "Jewel".... like, they could walk into a bar where she is singing in >the background or something even. she very well could still turn up in the I think even the word 'cameo' is being misused here. Anyone who is familiar with the story of Cold Mountain will know that Jewel will not be playing herself, as it takes place during the Civil War. If it is true that Jewel is appearing, it would be some kind of small guest spot, with her actualling playing a character... not herself. - ---------- ~Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! ~~Live the life you've imagined. - -Thoreau _________________________________________________________________ Have fun customizing MSN Messenger learn how here! http://www.msnmessenger-download.com/tracking/reach_customize ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Dec 2003 08:30:29 -0800 (PST) From: eliot lemoncelli Subject: [EDA] Re: Official JewelJK Forum Is Now Up Mike Connell wrote Yeah, I'm still the buffoonic wizard behind the curtain. At that point, the discussions, as you remember them, may come again. I think that this list was a very different place at its birth than it is now. As an off-shoot of the ecto list, which is still a strong and relatively small place to discuss Happy Rhodes (and anything else of interest), the list began with a group of already friends that wanted to talk primarily about jewel in a separate forum from ecto. When I joined the jewel list, prior to the first digest (OLD OLD OLD!), the core group were folks from ecto with a few newbies thrown in. In its heyday (around Jewelstock, I would reckon), the primary participants in the discussions were students who had quite a bit of free time to ramble on about nothing--and to try to make personal connections with other like-minded people. The people (and I include myself) were looking for some sort of connection that they weren't getting on a daily basis. We found it here. Several years later, the people who were looking and finding, don't have the same emotional needs; other means have been discovered to get the same "positive vibrations." Or we just have to work, and take care of wives and kids, and generally have difficult finding the time to be active. Of course, that always goes hand in hand with not *needing* the things we used to get from the list only. Also, the internet itself was pretty new, and for someone to have a web page was a "wow!" moment. Now that the internet has become more of a "given" than a "special" thing, there are just more people around. It used to seem exclusive. I think that has detracted from the "special-ness" of the list. Not that the removal of personal contact with Jewel didn't hurt that; but at its peak, the list was not about Jewel, but about each other, and around Jewel. And another thing (yeah sure dad), signal-to-noise is a factor too. Skim skim skim. Anyways--enough rambling. I think some of it made sense. Whatever. For better or worse, it goes on. Does it fade? Maybe, but I don't see it happening anytime soon. See you in Bearsville! Well, we're getting pretty darn close to the size the list was during the "benchmark" JewelStock era of July 1996. The combined subscribership of loose and digest versions of the list was about 475 then. Jewel-news was not started until that autumn. We are now at a combined 635 for those same two versions, 191 for loose, 444 for digest. Numbers: Loose mail version: 0215 - JewelStock (estimate based upon my failing grey matter and cryptic notes I still have from June 1996) 0359 - April 1997 (when I started logging weekly totals) 0893 - maximum (Oct-1997) 0191 - now Digest version: 0260 - JewelStock 0546 - April 1997 (when I started logging weekly totals) 1064 - maximum (Aug-1999) 0444 - now News version: 0000 - JewelStock 0531 - April 1997 (when I started logging weekly totals) 1355 - maximum (Jan-1999) 0507 - now >When I joined the jewel list, prior to the first digest (OLD OLD OLD!), Yep, yer old! >Also, the internet itself was pretty new, and for someone to have a web page >was a "wow!" moment. I recall when I first started to look for Jewel info on the internet (March 1996), there were FOUR web pages dedicated to Jewel. Was about two months later the list was "wowed" when someone spotted an ad in a newspaper flyer for the "Pieces Of You" CD. "Wow! I told ya so dad! She's hitting the big-time now, there's a ADVERTIZEMENT in the paper for Jewel !!!" >And another thing, signal-to-noise is a factor too. Skim skim >skim. I've said it before and I'll say it again, that s-to-n ratio was pretty darn much the same when I joined in 1996 and in our "community peak" era of spring 1997 as it is now. Read the online archives and you'll see. MUCH more of both signal and noise though. We were getting an average of over 250 posts a day during some spells in 1997, over 400 a day at times (that was *14* digests a DAY, and the digests then were twice as big when published...40K then vs 18K or less now) >Anyways--enough rambling. I think some of it made sense. Whatever. Yeah, ya hit upon some points, like the "newness" of the internet AND Jewel back then.
