MB: "Probably not. I might do it once just for fun, but I think I'd feel pretty stupid. The second you start dressing like that, people pay more attention to your clothes than the music. It's really hard to balance your sexuality with your artistic integrity. I saw Jewel (in concert) the other day, she was wearing these white pumps and the shortest skirt I've ever seen; everyone could see right up her skirt onstage. I mean, you can be sexual in the right way, but if you look like you're trying to hard, it masks your talent." Hypocrite, anyone?... Michelle's photos leave a whole lot less to the imagination than ANYTHING Jewel has ever worn, onstage or off. I have no objection to the photos... she looks hot... if she wants to dress like that, then fine. I don't think it means anything. My problem is she goes around talking badly about Jewel, calling her a tryhard, and then does a photo spread way more revealing than anything Jewel has EVER done... and probably WOULD ever do. I mean people thought Jewel's Blender photos were distasteful... jeeez... they're chaste compared to this. Steve, I'm not sure I'm understanding the point of this post. Is it an attempt to change opinions of those who feel Jewel DID sell out. Why would anything Michelle Branch does make us feel any better about Jewel's actions? Michelle Branch does a provacative photo shoot. Oh, well OK, I feel much beter about Jewel chucking the image she worked hard to build and maintain. And thank God for Paris Hilton, she makes Jewel look like an Angel. Yey, we have our old Jewel back. I think its best to let people hold their opinions even if it differs from yours. I'm not trying to change your opinion, why do you feel the need to change mine? Musical artist Jewel performed a concert in the gym as the grand prize to students while Channel One, the national news provider for Junior High and High School students, filmed the event. Channel One also did their daily broadcast from the high school, and news anchors Errol Barnett and Derek Shore were present to host the show. The Power of One Contest was won for the school by eighth grader Rachel Shivers, LHS senior Adrian Daly and high school teacher RevaBeth Russell who wrote an essay, made a movie, and wrote a recommendation, respectively. The subject of their work was the Thomspon Family Fundraiser at Lehi, which included a headshaving campaign lead by Shandi Mackintosh. The Thompson's two daughters Alex and Megan have been struggling with brain cancer, and Alex recently passed away from the disease, despite the numerous treatments paid in part by the fundraising efforts of Lehi High. "Abby (Thompson) is my friend, and I thought I could show that what happened to her was really sad, and I knew that we could raise more money this way," said Shivers of her decision to the write the essay. "My mom helped a lot, and the principal and school were really helpful, too." Jewel herself was so touched by the story of the Thompson family that she personally sent flowers to the funeral of Alex Thompson, and was more than eager to meet the family. She dedicated her final song of the concert to the Thompsons, which was "Angel Standing By Me," leaving the family and much of the audience in tears. At the end of the broadcast, Channel One announced that through corporate sponsors they managed to donate another $10,000 to the Thompson fund. Along with this generous donation, Channel One also provided gift bags for the Thompson children which included makeup, cameras and other accessories. Those in attendance at the concert and broadcast were Lehi High School students, Lehi Junior High Honor Roll students, faculty, special city guests, Shivers and her closest friends, the Mackintosh family and the Thompson family. Participating in the Channel One Pop Quiz Broadcast were Destry Downs, David Lew, Tupu Folau, and Anna Sais. Assistants to the set crew included Kyle Cook and Student Council members Lorenzo Day, Lorraine Evans, Breezy Chandler, Whitney Dastrup, Kevin Schaefer, Nate Stewart and Gary Glodowski. Ushers for the event were provided by the Lehi Youth Crime Watch, and were Marcee Woffinden, Whitney Barney, Kami Curtis, Chenelle Crawford, Justin Hadfield, Drew Robinson, Rory Jones, Stacy Carrell, Tara Asay, David Lew, Scott Christofferson, James Ray, and Jennifer Anothony.
