[Mike Connell Subject: [EDA] re: Changes Well, I can agree that Jewel isn't quite as accessable. But I don't think everyone should automatically by jumping to the conclusion that Soul City Cafe is over. If it was over, I think they would of said so instead of being on HIATUS for re-evaluation. Maybe they are revamping the SCC site? Who knows? She still is taking unsigned acts with her on tour from SCC, which is good. But again, I can agree on the other things, that Jewel isn't quite as accesable. I think its becase right now because of "the state of the industry" that they are doing whatever they can to make money and to keep making more records. Its a pretty basic idea, isn't it? Declining sales means resorting to charging for other things (such as Jewel: Unedited's features) to bring in a bit more money to try to make up for it. I didn't totally go for it or like it either, until I found out that This Way was downloaded *eight million times.* That blew me away. It probably doesn't mean 8 million records were lost in sales, but certainly somewhere in the millions, I believe. Atlantic cut back her promotion by a lot because of that. So yeah, its sad, but I guess they are doing what they can. Jewel's contract is up after her next album, and she might just want to stay with Atlantic and still make enough money for a high enough promotion budget, to keep making new ablums for years to come, her different projects like HGH and SSC, and money for herself of course! After thinking that over, I don't feel quite as bad about being charged for new things. We should be happy that we had the rare advantage to get it for free before at all, I guess.
