It was always nice to hear from you/him, and we'll all miss you tremendously. Now, not to start anything, but I was just curious: was MrBB forced out by Jewel's new management for whatever reason? I hope not, but it all comes so sudden that you never know. Edie Brickell is now married to Paul Simon. - -=-Larry-=- shawneyeda@juno.com wrote: >Hiya! There's this song that has been driving me crazy b/c i don't know who sings it. I think, not sure, that it came out like 5 yrs ago. She sort of sounds like Fiona Apple. It's kind of rockish, and the guitar solos are bluesy. The only lyrics I can remember are "what I am, is what I am, and what you are"...and something about shallow water? I'm pretty shocked about what's going on at the Jewel camp right now. Getting rid of everyone that put her where she is plus Soul City. When you foster and encourage thousands of people to become a community and then just shut it down with hardly a warning, that's pretty crummy. I don't know the story behind it all so I guess I'll reserve final judgement, but right now my respect level for Jewel is pretty low (yea, like she cares!). Sigh. Anyway, for NYC area EDA's, great show tonight by a great artist and wonderful person who also came out of the San Diego scene.... Randi Driscoll at the Cutting Room in NYC! Sat. August 9th! with Noah Heldman (percussion, guitar) Dave Eggar (cello) and other special guests.........!!!! I'm gonna post also! Jewel's next single, Stand, is impacting pop radio on August 19th and HotAC radio August 25th. I find it interesting that they're impacting it at pop radio BEFORE Hot AC... *hopefully* that's an indicator that Atlantic see pop radio as the main priority... which they should, for sure. Also, the video shoot is happening August 21st and there are backstage passes being auctioned off at that stubhub.com site, the same site that is auctioning off the front row tickets to the shows. Anyway! This is *great* news regarding the impact dates. They're moving fast (which is good) and not wasting any time. We might start seeing some pre-impact adds come up this week, and certainly some airplay for the song in the next week or so. Calling up your local radio station and requesting would definitely be a good idea, I think. Steve. PS - I will keep you updated as to how the song does this week and next with adds. I'm nervously awaiting it's reception I have to say! Jewel hasn't had a really successful 2nd single off an album since Pieces of You so I'm *hoping* Stand bucks the trend. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 09 Aug 2003 13:19:07 -0400 From: FreckledAngel@aol.com Subject: [EDA] best wishes to Mr. BB Best wishes to Mr. BB on his new journey!!! He's been a great member of this list and will be missed! That's great that he's pursuing what he needs to do and will stay on in some capacity or another. Just wanted to pass on my good thoughts... Amyhttp://www.cdbaby.com/emerman P.S. I just secured a kindergarten teaching job for the Fall in a NYC public school and am very excited about my career move. I will be singing less on stage and more with the children in the class. I'll still probably gig every now and then, but after months of time off from a "real job" I've come to realize how important a stable career is and how for me, music is a passion and a hobby and not a career move! I don't quite have that drive or ambition to pursue music on any kind of level other than the pure joy of singing with myself, with kids, at small songwriter events in the city. I'm glad I had the few months off from teaching to have more time to spend with organizing showcases and playing out a little bit, but I've come to realize I don't really enjoy being in the spotlight so much and music and singing for me is a great passion that I like to keep more personal and out of the spotlight. But I have always admired Jewel and many other indie musicians including Anne Heaton who are out there making it happen...I'll continue to be a supporter of these wonderful musicians and I'll continue to be involved in the community of singer/songwriters I know in Manhattan, but I'm very happy to be getting back full time into teaching young children and helping them learn and develop life-long loves of learning, hopefully...I hope to help encourage in them deep loves of literacy and learning amd music, etc....will probably not be very active on this list but I will continue to skim the list and stay in tune on some level to what's happening since I've always been fascinated and inspired by Jewel's career, although often far to busy with my own life to stay totally abreast of it. Anywhoooooooooooo....best wishes to everyone. Amy :_) ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V8 #351 ***************************
