I JUST bought 0304 and popped it into my computer. On the way to the store I was listening to Innerchange 1&2 so I am in shock right now. I guess I need to listen to it a few times before forming an opinion. (I remember skipping through half of POY back in the day.) Anyway, Stand and 2 Find U are, on first impression, the most catchy radio-friendly songs. But I found myself playing 2 Find U on 'repeat'. I am not impressed with the CD, but ofcourse I love my Jewel! I am new to the list (I was on it back in '97 '98 '99), but one thing I've got to say is that you guys have become so mean! so critical and judgemental...but, for some reason, I can't quit reading!!! cristian SullMa84@aol.com wrote: I honestly don't think that STAND will be the next single. It's just not...melodic or catchy enough. The structure drags in a way that makes it a good album song but not good for radio at all. Just like Break Me. And man, I really really love it. The whole girlish high voice-ness is gone, and Jewel is really putting rythym into her voice. It gives the song a different feel, although the hip-hop-pop beats are there. She starts the first line of the chorus a little poorly though. Its because the song jumps to a very strange high note really fast. But you forget all about that when she gets to the next line. It really was a great performance. Its the Jewel you're used to hearing, you know? This was in part due to a 40% sales drop after the first week (bigger than expected, but not unusual) and also due to 6 albums debuting in the top 10. A large majority of these albums (Annie Lennox, George Strait, Joe Budden, Steely Dan) will likely experience a large drop in sales next week... so I wouldn't be surprised if Jewel got back into the Top 10 next week or the week after. We'll see what happens. Hopefully her sales will level soon. Intuition remained at #27 on the Hot 100, but lost it's bullet. This is due to a slightly decrease in sales and a decrease in audience figures for airplay. Depending on whether or not Intuition recovers at pop radio (she's -72 right now)... this may or may not be her peak position. We shall see. She rose from #17 to #10 on the Hot Dance/Club Play Chart! So dance clubs are groovin' to the song! Billboard.com have stopped posting their Adult Top 40 chart in the free section, and are now posting the Mainstream Top 40 chart. Jewel falls from #18 to #19 on this chart, but keeps her bullet. Steve. PS - got an interesting email from an Atlantic staff member. Apparently the slip in airplay for Intuition was caused by a missed spin on a nationally syndicated radio show (on 125 stations)... and he vowed that they would "get the bullet back". He also said they're not even thinking about a 2nd single yet. So clearly Atlantic haven't given up on the song. I just hope they can deliver on what they're saying. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Jun 2003 12:55:14 -0230 From: "Mark Austin" Subject: [EDA] radio station hosting live mp3 Doing a little search, I found that Hot 99.5, a Washington based Radio station, is hosting a high quality mp3 of a live acoustic version of 2 Become 1. Its different from the performance on Jewel Worshipper's site. Get it here: http://www.hot995.com/multimedia/audio.php Definately worth a download! Also, for those of you (like me) who missed Jewel a while back when the Early Show had performances of her 2nd free concert, you can watch videos of Intuition, 2 Become 1 (it was a really great performance with the band. Thats definately still the same Jewel behind that pink-black striped shirt!), and an Interview here: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/05/27/earlyshow/leisure/music/main555644.shtml I hate to put in a complaint, but if only Jewel Unedited offered such quality and full length versions on their *pay* site. We're getting great quality for free all over the internet, you just have to look for it. Oh well! They still have the pre-sale, messages, and other special more private videos I guess! Assuming that she will do a full headline tour in support of this album, what songs do you most want to hear? (I know this is a slightly cheesy activity, but it is a very dreary day here in Philly and I'm heinously bored at work so I'm trying to brighten my mood a bit.) Here's the criteria: *25 songs (wildly optimistic estimate but since it's a fantasy...) *8 of the songs must be from "0304" (she is, after all, promoting this album) *specify whether the song is with full band or solo *songs can be from her full catalog, including angelfood, soundtrack cuts, rarities long since retired, etc. Personally, I can't offer mine up just yet (like I said, I'm at work, so I don't have access to my full collection but after I've given it some thought I'll try to post mine later tonight.) Just got some VERY interesting news. Jewel was on the radio program Loveline in the states and she revealed that she recently did a "naked" photoshoot for a "reputable" magazine. She didn't say whether or not the photos were completely naked or just... partially naked but with all the appropriate bits covered. However, she did say the pictures are sexy and not smutty, and the magazine is reputable and not smutty, like Stuff. So it can't be Playboy cause Playboy is way smuttier than Stuff. She did specify that they're for a magazine *cover*. I would guess Rolling Stone or Vanity Fair... or one of those. Maybe Maxim. It can't be one of the crappy Women's magazines (like Self or Instyle) cause they wouldn't put naked anything on the cover. She also said that the photoshoot was done, but she owns the pictures and is still deciding as to whether or not she should let the magazine use them. She asks the hosts for advice - I don't know what they said. This is extremely interesting news. Personally, I'd love to see that. However, if they're totally naked and for Playboy or a magazine like that - I will not approve. However, partially naked for Rolling Stone gets the major thumbs up from me! If she does release them, watch the "sellout" debate just completely go out of control ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V8 #285 ***************************
