It has a few good spots, but most of it I just don't like. After listening to it about 10 times now I just have one comment. Jewel is all about sex! Listen to the lyrics! 3/4 of the songs have lines in them that are definitely about sex. She must be really enjoying her relationship with Ty is she is so focused on one topic. I'm sorry, but it was really bugging me and no one else has mentioned it. Am I the only one who has picked up on this? - -Mi Rinda ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2003 09:26:23 -0500 From: "Kovacs, Mirinda" Subject: RE: [EDA] ugh! That's just the point! A loyal fan doesn't have to accept everything to be a fan! I love Jewel, I love what she stands for, the type of person she is, and the good she does. I do not really like this new CD. But that doesn't make me any less of a fan. As a big supporter of her I have the right to state my opinion, even if it is negative. Her loyal fans will stick with her through something they don't like because you never know what will happen next. Prime example - look how many people didn't like Spirit, but loved This Way. Now if they had dropped her because they didn't like Sprit they would have missed out on everything else. Do not expect true, loyal fans to have blinders on. We are all humans with our own ideas and opinions. That's what makes us great. Stop complaining about it and enjoy it. - -----Original Message----- From: Laura Ritchie [mailto:adorkable@ilovedanny.com] Sent: Monday, June 09, 2003 7:19 PM To: Jewel@smoe.org Subject: [EDA] ugh! Hey ya'll I'm just wondering, everything is a controversy, why does everyone have to prove everyone wrong while stating their own opinion, and isn't this suposed to be a mailing list about the artist and what is going on and not how everyone thinks something is wrong with her, or something is wrong with something she does? If you are such loyal fans, they why don't you accept everything? *~Laura~* - -From what you do to what you don't do, you will always be successful at some points in your life, even if you don't belive so, the option is always open- ________________________________________________________________ Sent via ilovedanny.com Get your FREE email at http://www.LoveLetters.com! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2003 10:05:04 -0500 From: "Philip Nelson" Subject: RE: [EDA] 0304 I haven't heard the album but I love the fact that Jewel is expanding her style. I must admit her old image seemed more approachable and down to earth, but her new style will probably be MUCH more popular. If Jewel wants to strut around on stage wearing bubble rap and aluminum foil then we should be fine with it. Anyone who's read Revealing Jewel knows she likes playing "dress up." It's just one of the infinitely possible ways that she or anyone else can express their creativity. She's not a fashion model or designer. She wears what she wants because she wants to wear it. The appeal of her fashion isn't that she's on the cover of Vogue, it's that it's fun, expressive, and creative. In MD this past weekend she wore jeans and this green and blue top with really cute strawberry buttons. I don't know why I chose to mention that... I just really liked the buttons. ANYWAY... Yeah. Let Jewel wear what she wants. If someone's appreciation of an artist stems from their fashion sense, then I'm surprised that person made it through the grunge years. :) BTW, your Lil Kim comment was hilarious. - -Dan >>>>>>>>> Fashion help, someone... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2003 13:57:29 -0400 From: "Dan Cole" Subject: RE: [EDA] Hey Jewel... READ PLEASE! Hey Angels, Well, I've tried to hold my tongue, but I'm really sick of all this Jewel bashing. I mean, I know we all have opinions, but this is a list where we give good and bad opinions. However, lately I've seen nothing but bad! Jewel is still young and she's just having fun. Everyone keeps claiming that they love Jewel because of who she is, but I don't think so. So what, she's wearing sexy clothes! In the POY and Spirit days she dressed sexy in little skirts and all. And everyone's having a heart attack just because Jewel wanted to experiment with a different sound and make an album that would make people happy during war time. This has gotten to the point where it's ridiculous! It seems like everything Jewel does someone's whining saying she's selling out ... oh my god! Jewel bought a coke! She's wearing a really short skirt with stripes on it! She's not the same anymore! That's pretty much what it sounds like to me. We all know people change and I know Jewel has, but she hasn't completely changed! She's still that Jewel we "love" and "respect." She still writes from her heart and play music she loves. She's only human, not some perfect divine goddess who can't ever change and make mistakes! For all those people who keep bashing because Jewel's not exactly the same as she was during the POY days need to get over it! I love POY, it's my favorite CD by her, but it's the past and Jewel has moved and so should you guys! You can't dwell on the past forever. Someone on the list said that Jewel is doing this dance music because she just wants money, but I remember Jewel commenting in some interview that she could retire if she wanted. Don't get me wrong, singers want their stuff to sell, but we know Jewel's not ALL about that. Jewel can't please everyone, so take her for who she is or just get off the list already. READ PLEASE! Amen, sistuh. It's like I said before. You start dating someone, then a few years later you realize that they've changed and they're not the same person you fell in love with. So you break up with them. But the thing is, EVERYONE changes... If you break up with the person because they've changed, you were never REALLY in love with them in the first place. You just loved some superficial quality that at that time in their lives they possessed. The relationships that last are the ones where the partners see something meaningful and profound in each other that goes beyond the external to the eternal. They experience some connection that transcends clothes, trends, and styles. I don't mean this to be in any way accusatory that those who have problems with Jewel's current image never "REALLY loved her in the first place," although that is possible. I just agree with Kristin and Dave that that's not what this list, this group, or Jewel, is about. - -Dan *Angel Needs a Name* - -----Original Message----- Hey Angels, Well, I've tried to hold my tongue, but I'm really sick of all this Jewel bashing.
