There has been alot of jewel lately on TV. I don't know what the hell happened to her. Is she going to be the next mariah carey? Jewel dresses so skimpy now adays. I saw her at the NBA finals halftime show and damn was she wearing some short shorts. She didn't even play her guitar. what kinda crap is this. I guess this is her new image to bring in her new fans and bring her back into the limelight. I guess she's doing whatever it takes now to get back into it. I'm not used to seeing her like this. It is kinda weird. I can't stand her dancing either. She has no ryhthem and dances like some old woman. It's a sad sight to see. I miss the old jewel. I will go listen to Run tonto run now and remember the good old days of Jewel. EDA in Houston who's been on this list and loose mail might I add for 6 years in a row! Nobody complained too much about the short denim skirts last summer - man are we all reaching to tear her down bit by bit or what? Enjoy it if that's what you want to be about - but I choose to have faith in Jewel. She's always been true to herself - and her fans. Why not let her have some fun. After all - a few years ago she wasn't having fun and almost retired between Spirit and This Way. Let's just be glad that she still feels like doing something and sharing it with us. If she wants to make a fun record..... has nobody else ever tried to make school or work more fun for a while? - let's cut her some slack. She's having fun playing with her image a bit and enjoying the fact that she actually has shown more longevity in the business than most artists ever do. She's enjoying herself - I'm going to enjoy it with her and wait and see what comes next. But the way a lot of people on here talk it's like they are used to being let down by her - and I doubt that's really the case. She dropped in her gains at pop, staying put at #17 with gains of +150. She seems to have good weeks and then bad weeks and then good weeks again, so I think this coming week it'll pick up. However, she's got the black eyed peas and michelle branch poised to jump passed her next week. And Beyonce and Pink poised to jump passed her the following week. Michelle Branch may slow down more, and so might Beyonce... but still. On the other end Eminem, 50 Cent, 3 Doors Down, J-Lo (unless the rap remix of her song takes off), and hopefully Stacie Orrico (who is close to losing her bullet) are all going to drop below her in the next few weeks. And following that Justin Timberlake, Sean Paul, R. Kelly and Christina Aguilera are bulletless and dropping fast out of the top 10.... so there's definitely still room for her... but she might backward bullet (meaning she drops in position but still increases in spins) in the next few weeks. Hopefully next week, with all the promo that's happening (NBA finals, conan, the view etc) as well as the high debut for 0304... she'll pick up! And after the current batch of top 10 songs that are bulletless are out of the way... there'll be room for her to move in. It can and hopefully will happen! At Hot AC she's back in the relatively fast lane moving from #12 to #11 with gains of +220. That's about it. I will let you know how album sales are shaping up soon, as the building album sales chart starts later tonight (australia time)... which is early monday morning USA time. I know that the prediction is 140k... however, I was checking some old information and I found out that when Sheryl Crow debuted she was looking at 125k from the prediction, and wound up with 200k. This was because her album was being sold really cheap at all the big chains, so her sales picked up majorly toward the end of the week. 0304 is also being sold for under 10 dollars at Target, Best Buy and possibly Walmart... so that same trend *could* apply. I'll let you know! So do we know what's up with that? I know it could have been a mix-up with Jewel's management, but someone on the list said they heard Jewel singing it on the radio? Can anyone confirm if Jamie Lynn was actually the one who sang, cuz that's kind of a strange situation! p.s. I used to be involved a lot more back in the "day." lol Like POY-Spirit time...not too far back I suppose. Anyhow, For the most part I haven't been reading the digest at all, but recently I've been poking around every once in a while, just to see what everyone thought about the new album. I stopped being obsessed with Jewel in like 1999 when she started playing electric. I wasn't really into it, I didn't feel that electric fit. Even though I almost completely stopped listening I still bought This Way...which I have to say I only listened to a few times. I have to say I've drifted from Jewel and more into metal and gothic music. Anyhow, Intuition perked me a little. It was very different from the "old" Jewel, and maybe that's why it interested me a little. I bought 0304 yesterday. It's a little funny seeing Jewel in "rave" looking clothing, but doesn't everyone have the right to be or do what they want? So what if her new stuff is a little popish or at times technoish? I understand her need to make pop with LYRICS that mean SOMETHING. I have to say I'm not in LOVE with the album, but it does have it's high points. "Stand," "Run @ U," and "Intuition" are all growing on me. Enough rambling from me. Rebecca The Goth Photography Angel http://glass-faerie.net "I have discovered photography. Now I can kill myself. I remembered I had a MPG video of Jewel performing the National Anthem at the super bowl. I watched it a few times and I started to wonder if she was playbacking. I mean it was of course her one voice but the words and her mouth didn't ran simultaniously. Can someone tell me what's up with this. Did she really playback (which I can Hardly imagine, Jewel is the most talented live performer I know) or is the video just fucked up? By the way, anyone who wants to trade angelfood? I'm most interested in new material (songs from 0304) but also in older concerts. - - Floris _________________________________________________________________ MSN Zoeken, voor duidelijke zoekresultaten! http://search.msn.nl ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Jun 2003 11:53:30 -0400 From: "Scott" Subject: Re: [EDA] Jewel singing National Anthem (Super Bowl) Jewel lip-synched the National Anthem at the Super Bowl because of the sheer size of the venue. It's incredibly difficult to do the track, and many artists rely on pre-recorded songs. Jewel and her management say the venue asked her to do it, and the venue says that Jewel wanted to do it, so there's a disagreement there, but either way, she didn't sing it live. <> - -- Scott http://scott.rocket-fish.org/ http://syd.rocket-fish.org/ ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V8 #255 ***************************
