[JeWeLNuMbEr1FaN@aol.com] [EDA] radio update - oops, I was early! [Stephen Hallowes Subject: [EDA] Radio Update Hey Guys Jewel had a GOOD week at radio this week! She jumped #20 to #17 on the pop chart, with gains of +350 - her biggest gain in the past 3 weeks. Intuition is officially Jewel's biggest pop hit since Hands, as it just surpassed Down So Long's peak position (#18). At Hot AC, she also did well as she managed to regain her bullet and move up from #13 to #12, with gains of around +50. She was -80 earlier in the week but turned around mid-week and her gains have been improving all week, so I think that'll continue throughout this week. She also soared from #43 to #30 on the Hot 100, her biggest jump yet - which is unusual the further up the chart you get. This was mainly as a result of a big spike in sales for the Intuition CD-single. It was greatest gainer in sales this week moving up to #3 on the sales chart. The fact that the single is selling well during such a bad period in the singles market bodes well for album sales. Hopefully it'll keep gaining. 0304 comes out this Tuesday as you all know. On Wednesday we will have a pretty clear indication of how the record will do, based on one-day sales. My prediction is that it will debut at #1. There is no serious competition (Train and Sugar Ray, and that's basically it). The albums from the past two weeks won't be a threat. Staind only managed 230k for last week, and will lose half of that this week, and another 20-30% the following week. The number one album this coming week is going to be a live Led Zeppellin disk ... and it will only move about 120k. So theoretically Jewel only needs to move around 120 000 records to be #1... and This Way moved 140 000 in the first week. I think 0304 has a chance of selling more than that because the single is much bigger than Standing Still was, and the buzz and hype are also a lot bigger. There's also more promotion surrounding this album. I think she has a chance of making 200 000, similar to what Sheryl Crow sold with C'mon C'mon this time last year. A safer prediction would be about 150 000, but I'm gonna go out on a limb. We shall see. This is going to be a good year for Jewel. I can feel it. Steve. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 May 2003 21:52:34 -0700 From: "Ian Jones" Subject: [EDA] Re: 0304 0-YES! I can't wait to get my. Hands (heehee, sorry, couldn't resist) on 0304! While it's probably my second favorite album of hers (bumping PoY down to 3, and TW is still in my no. 1 spot), and while the whole dance/techno type of music isn't exactly my scene (it's fine for some, but.), I do love this album, and I've only just heard it online (through the Real Audio stream.) I like 2 Become 1, and Yes U Can is a great, retro-1980s-Blondie type of song. I had a little trouble with Intuition at first, but it's definitely growing on me. I can't waiiiiit for Tuesday! (And when she starts touring again, I hope she comes to Livermore, CA again as she did for the NWW solo acoustic tour. Heck, I'd settle for anywhere in the bay area. ;) I know that's sorta off topic from my main point, but.) Ok, I'm rambling. I could say more, but I'll spare you guys. ;) Ian, the angel who (semi-)rarely posts. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 May 2003 23:39:47 -0700 From: "Missy" Subject: [EDA] 0304 = New Favorite among EDAs?! Hey everybody.;) Everybody is saying that 0304 is their new favorite Jewel Album. I think it is really really funny how everybody hated it before they listened to it, and now they thay've caught a glimpse of it - they know that she is still our Jewel. Anyway. I listened to the album, and I really like it too - but I'm still the biggest fan of POY. My favorite on the CD is Leave the Lights On.. I also like Haunted, but I don't think that it feels nearly as eery as Nicotine Love - - maybe it is different live.:) Missy ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 Jun 2003 23:54:30 +1000 From: Stephen Hallowes Subject: [EDA] Intuition debuts at #7 in Australia! What's your most and least favorite moment/part of the album? Most Favorite: The bridge of "Leave the Lights On" is incredible! It's the most defining piece of the album, in my opinion. The vocals are reminiscent of Ella Fitzgerald...I noticed this sporadically throughout the album, actually. Least Favorite: Jewel's whistling solo in Fragile Heart. I'm sorry but the Dixie Chicks make me limp. Hey Guys I got confused and posted the radio update a day early... when there was still a day of spins to take into account. The chart positions Jewel reached stayed the same, but her gains were slightly different this week. At pop she gained +400 by the end of the week, not +350. And at Hot AC she gained +150 by the end of the week, not +50. Go Jewel! Also, Jewel's airplay in Australia is *fantastic*. She's currently sitting at #7 on the airplay charts, as well as being #7 on the sales chart. So the song is officially both a Top 10 airplay hit and a Top 10 sales hit! By FAR her biggest hit song in Australia since Hands. Steve. ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V8 #229 ***************************
