Some friends and I are going to head over to Camden on Friday but don't want to sit through the other acts. I called Q102 to see if they had the exact lineup fixed and they said, "No". I would assume that she will be playing closer to the end of the show seeing as she is one of the bigger acts on the bill, but what has your experience been for those that have already attended similar shows? Thanks! The host teased her about her new hot image and her sexy legs. He asked her if she worked out or was on a special diet and her reply was she was on a diet of cocain and liquor. She sang 2 Become 1 and I have to say it was a very beautiful song and the lyrics were awesome...true Jewel form. She commented on Divas and said Beounce (spelling?) was the nicest person and she helped Jewel work on her dance moves. Of course there were questions about yodeling and the homestead. Jewel was her witty and spunky self. The guys teased her alot and she teased right back. All in all it was a great interview. You can imagine my disappointment when I got home and began to watch it, and right before she came on, my tape had ended. Doesnt that figure. So my question is, does anyone have her performance posted on-line for my viewing pleasure? His new CD, "This Moment Alive," is a cooperative music venture between Soul City Cafi.com and his website, First Rock Star.com. That was the best morning show that I have ever seen!! The interview was great, b/c she answered the question we wanted to know about her and ty. That was the best audience that Jewel has ever had on a morning show. They danced and stuff, and Jewel was very playful with them! I love 2 Become 1!! At first I didn't really like the beat, but the lyrics are so sweet!!! I love how she sung the song towards the end, when her voice got all rockish!! The song sort of reminds me of "This Way" mixed with "Morning Song." I love the performance of "SS!!" It's such a fun song, and I will never get tired of hearing it!! Her outfit was cute!! not too much skin showing. Jewel ROCKS!! I think I'm overly excited about the new album!;) love ya, shawney the hippie angel ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Thanks, Christel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 May 2003 18:59:45 -0400 From: FreckledAngel@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Jewel at GM Plaza Tuesday afternoon So, it was a lovely day after lots of yucky weather in New York and I went over to see Jewel play live at GM Plaza for the CBS Morning News Show. Got there a few minutes of 12pm and it was just about to start. People were there, but it was easy to find a spot right next the stage, which I did, right next to a cute little girl who was sitting on the stage (she looked about 5). Then, the announcer people came out and then out came Jewel. She was introduced, blah blah blah and then she did a kick-booty cover of "Intuition". She played "2 Become 1" which is growing on me--good song. She played "Foolish Games" very beautifully, I might add. Her voice hit some really pretty notes in this one, almost yodel-like at the climactic moment. It was very nice. Then she played "Standing Still" and that was it. She was sort of interviewed briefly by this really annoying woman who was overly zealously and struck me as extremely fake (although nice, but in that saccharine kind of way). Also the guy interviewing her briefly struck me as annoying as well. At point Jewel was talking about her new style and she mentioned something about being geared toward the "smart, young and sexy" and the guy was like, "Well, I get the young and sexy part". I thought that was kind of lame of him. DUH. Jewel happens to be extremely smart, which is lost on people like that. The woman asked some questions like "Oh, my God, are you and Ty back together?" I was just kind of sitting there like, "Oy, she gets asked such dumb questions by such phony people...if it were me I'd just want to slap them". And I'm a peaceful person. It really made me sympathetic to JEwel. HEre's a woman coming from a humble, earthly place who has to adjust herself to surviving in many superficial, glity situations and being interviewed live by people who come off as blatantly fake and plastic. But, of course, Jewel handled it all with poise, good humor, etc. She was decked out in black pants, a striped pink eighties shirt and very very very high heeled shoes. She made a wry comment, "I'm wearing false eyelashes and hair extensions, just so girls in the viewing audience don't go home and commit suicide ' cause they don't look like me" or something to that effect. At the beginning of the show, when we were practicing clapping loudly and the lady interviewee said we could do better than that, Jewel remarked "Just pretend I'm Britney" and got a few laughs. There were a few EDA's there, but I'm sure many were in school or at work. I was taking advantage of my current vacation from teaching to be there. And it was great. The interviewer guy made a comment that Jewel had brought back the sunshine and actually, I kind of had thought the same thing. Just like the Central Park concert had been a lovely day, the sun actually came out during Jewel's out-door show. Weather in NYC has been cold and rainy and yucky for weeks and everyone's been like, "Where's Spring and when is it coming?" and every time Jewel has played in the city it's as if she's brought good weather with her. Interesting... At the end of the show I paused to see if she was going to sing an old classic solo acoustic, but then I realized it wasn't really the venue for it. Most of the people there were tourists, sailors in for Fleet week, and people just walking by who wanted to see a celebrity play. There were definitely a few hardcore Jewel fans there as well, but not so many.... and Jewel had treated us to some solo acoustic goodies at the C.P. Show, which had been outstanding. But for those who were there, she made several comments about how she has the best fans, how she's grateful for being able to still have a job, and how she really appreciates her fans that stick with her. I believe that she really is genuine about that and basically, I'm supportive of what she's doing even if the pop stuff isn't necessarily my favorite compared to vintage Jewel, she's an artist and actually her new stuff is pretty good and very catchy and smart lyrically. And hopefully she'll reach a wider audience and maybe in the future we'll see more of the vintage Jewel stuff coming back into the mainstream. But for now, I think it's great she's having fun and doing dance stuff, etc. More power to her. Also, she mentioned that people should go out and buy her CD in the first 5 days after release to ensure that she gets in the top 10. I plan on buying the new booking coming out about JEwel told by those who know her. That I'm looking forward to. And I have all her other CD's, so why not this one? It's all good... One last thing. On a spur of the moment thing, I gave my demo CD that I made of myself to the limo driver and said it was a birthday present for Jewel. Who knows if she'll get it or not and I know she's way busy but I've listened to and appreciated a lot of her stuff over the years and if she ever feels like popping it into her CD player it might be refreshing...totally unproduced to a fault but very from the heart. Last comment, I had mentioned a show I was doing at Bar B last week...I hope no one from this list actually went b/c it got cancelled. I actually cancelled it b/c the venue was being very sleazy, and I decided to only play at venues that are respectful to musicians and bookers. So if you are in NYC and want to come to any shows before I got back to teaching and will play out less, you can check out http://www.cdbaby.com/emerman I'm an acoustic singer/songwriter in the folk rock genre. My big gig coming up is at CB's Gallery on Wed, June 18th @ 7pm, $5 cover. CB's in an awesome venue that is a terrific place to play. So.........all's good in Jewel Land. I unfortunately didn't get up early enough to watch CBS Early Morning News so I may have missed seeing a glimpse of myself on TV (oh well...not such a biggie) but seeing JEwel live was what it was all about. She was really cute, very professional, and very poised. Peace,Amy Emermanhttp://www.cdbaby.com/emerman ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V8 #222 ***************************
