I didn't like the dress she sang Intuition in, it was a little too skimpy for my Jewel. But still, she can pull it off. Every time I see her I am blown away by how truly beautiful she is. I got a kick out of the other "Jewel's" during Intuition. I thought that was very clever. Did anyone else think that Jewel seemed almost shy while singing with Stevie? That was so cute when she told him it was a dream come true. All in all I thought she was fantastic! :) Mi Rinda ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 May 2003 09:44:58 -0700 From: "Larry Greenfield" Subject: [EDA] Happy Birthday Jewel!!! It's so strangee to think about how she is turning 29, and how I've kept track of her birthday since she was 20-21. Life moves quickly! If anyone could let me know that would be great! xoxo Ashley the *sweet* angel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 May 2003 19:24:05 -0230 From: "Mark Austin" Subject: [EDA] For the last time, she never "selled out." Hey guys. I planned on just sending this to the one person who said it, but I thought it might be good if other people who still think that Jewel is "selling out" read it and hopefully change their minds. You said: Can anyone get the balls up to tell *this* guy that he's the loser (learn to spell, jackass!) and the idiot? GOD!! It doesnt matter, Jewel's sold out completely now anyway, of course she belongs up there with the rest of the sellouts from the big money machine. A very very very disgruntled and pissed off EDA "Sell your SELF, just cash in" - ----- First of all, I can agree with you on Michiel going out of whack on the Vh1 divas thing. I also found it annoying and stupid (sorry Michiel, but you need to calm down on that. Vh1 Divas turned out awesome, and Jewel did 4 songs, from what I've heard). But forgive his spelling, English isn't his first language. The thing that ticked me with your e-mail however was saying that Jewel has completely sold out. Um... No she hasn't? Selling out is when you comprimise your beliefs, artistic values, and do what other people say just for the money. First of all, when Jewel did this new thing on her own, her record company didn't even want it. She herself was shocked to be on MTV again. The song Intuition isn't selling out. Its just music that you do not like (I'm guessing) and is doing well so therefore you call it selling out. Remember when Jewel started out mainstream, she was all over MTV and other shows, but still in the middle of her acoustic beginnings, which I guess you liked more than this sound so you didn't consider it "selling out". But she even did a Tommy Hilfiger commercial back then.(Im suprised how people freak out over the razor commercial. I saw it and they dont even have her singing, just the accordian and beats playing quietly.) Just now shes being sexy and revealing in a video, but that is just to show that you can be sexy and smart, showing up all of the other singers on the pop station who market mindless sex. Pop music isnt bad, just the majority. It can be very good when its done smartly, which is what Jewel is doing right now. Also, Jewel herself said from the beginning that she is there because she is making her company money, and that ANY artist claiming otherwise is just flat out lying. However, she is not "selling out" because she has been maintaining and in some ways ever increasing her artistic integrity this entire time. She doesn't even plan on being sexy like she was in Intuition, as far as I know. Her style has *slightly* changed for concerts and other events (not counting the today show thing, which I think was for one time only) That was just to go along with the point of the video. (To which I might add, Its "sell your *sin*, just cash in", and even if it was "sell your self" it doesnt matter. Its not telling you the thing to do, its just mocking the state of the record industry. Its mocking them.) But so what if she is sexy, its all in good fun and shes still being smart. All in all, just because its Pop, it doesnt make in bad music. Its just the majority of pop music is. Jewel is making the genre good by besing sexy and smart, which is kind of breaking the boundaries. You may also be suprised on hearing the rest of 0304, as it sounds MUCH more like the older Jewel, while still being pop. Intuition is a very different song from the rest of the album. But expect a few different, but still very Jewel, songs on the album. You can find the clips and live full versions of some songs to download here at: http://www.angelfire.com/crazy/jk_worshipers/MP3s.html (THANK YOU JEWEL WORSHIPPER, YOU'VE BEEN GREAT WITH THIS STUFF!!) So yeah, I'm just fed up with people saying Jewel has "sold out" because shes not the same she used to be, or is being sexy, the person doesnt like the new sound, or they don't even understand what shes doing. There you go, I hope I covered everything in this very long e-mail. You may not like the new sound or slightly different look, but that doesn't mean its selling out. Jewel has evolved. She still plans on doing acoustic and other older stuff, she still does it at concerts, and you will never lose that. This is just another facet to add to the gem. I was very happy that Jewel and Beyonce paired. They sound/look good together although I never cared for Beyonce or Destiny's Child. I liked the version but it seems like it's been done a lot. I wish they would have sang another song... There was something really interesting about Jewel's vocals. Something nasal going on. It was interesting because it added a kinda country-ish vocals to the song, while Beyonce's vocals were very classic. Don't you think? I thought that was pretty cool. And WOW, she's playing with my head! What's up with those tiny itty bitty dresses?? Man, I gotta take a cold shower! >Sweet Temptation: Really cool. Once again, the chorus is kinda weird (less than Intuition's of course), but maybe that's because of the old clip I've been hearing. But I liked the long chorus a lot. It sounds awesome and super fun. I really wanna see the performances of Jewel, so, if anyone can make Real Player versions of them I'd appreciate A LOT!
