I think it's incredible that Jewel is finally reinventing herself, and that she's doing such a damn good job of it. The new video was incredible, and I'm so proud of her. I actually bought a new tape to get the today show this monring. I live in Newfoundland so it would've started at 8:30, just when I leave for school and I would have no trouble pressing the record button and watch when I get home. Being a bad morning person, I completely forgot and hate myself for it. I watched the two videos though, despite them being poor quality in visuals(dialup here), the framerate was really good and the music quality was decent. Well, Standing Still was your basic performance of it, so I don't have much to say other than it was good. She sang really well on Intuition. However, I don't think the band is up to par with it. The band needs to work on it a little more to get the right sound for it. And Jewel is new at taking the pop genre to this level and she will get used to the style of singing shes doing. Backup singers are reasonable, no real problem with having them there. They are needed for all the syncing and the style of music shes doing. The guys from the band doing backup vocals just doesn't cut it when it comes to this style of music Jewel is doing. What makes me say woah is the look. Woah. It is very 80s. Punkish 80s. It was a very shocking first impression. I know Jewel loves having fun, and the look was cute, but I think that Jewel looks best in more down to earth clothing best. Well, we can't call 0304 down to earth now can we? hehe. I wonder if she will dress this way for the entire tour? Oh well. No real biggy. I thought the outfit was cute, maybe there will be other outfits that I like much more. But none of that is any big deal, its just clothes afterall so I don't care. Also, someone said about the people on TRL, what Jewel had to go through being with them or something. Its a shame that we pride ourselves in being EDAs, and then go put others down like that. Sorry for being the one shaking their finger, but that bugged me. Sorry. Im just a little shocked over everything all over again. Jewel is still there, but then I think of the short haired Jewel in her normal clothing being very earthy and strumming her guitar. Shes changed and changed a LOT over the years. I know shes still a folkie deep down inside, and I still really enjoy this new music. Like Jewel said and someone quoted, "I've already proven myself. Now I'm just having fun!" Its kind of exciting, and makes you nervous, even if its someone you've never even met. I know however, that I will feel secure when she (hopefully) makes an acoustic album or at least goes back to normal Jewel again for a little while. I seem to be mentioning that a lot, don't I? Jewel is still making meaningful songs, and being exciting and upbeat at the same time. The changes are just so shocking to me! I still havn't seen the Intuition video (despite having cable, I get no MTV or VH1) and the launch stream is slower than.... I dont know. Its just really slow and unstable. But the little clip of it I saw from the Today Show clips was hilarious and I really found it funny! The clip of the video was her dancing around and the sign going "BLING BLING" and stuff like that. It really made me laugh! Another little worried thing with me is with this sudden rise once more to major stardom (not that selling 1.6 million in the USA with this way was bad, hehe) will make Jewel more far away to us. With This Way, she seemed so close because the fanbase is smaller. But now she is growing again and MTV and other stations will make her out as an object for millions, which is ironic considering the content of Intuition and its video. But I thought that the popularity was perfect and just right during This Way. Not too big, not too small. Perfect. Oi oi. I'm shocked nad excited. It was all good, I keep listening to those 0304 clips over and over, loving them, and Jewel is doing good. But I can admit I'll be more secure with her after 0304 runs its course. I just wanna see the singer whose music and spirit I fell in love with at the beginning. Shes still there, just so different right now! I don't know if anyone gets what I mean. For those wondering, yes, I still love Jewel and love how she is now. Its just so different though! She certainly is taking us on a wild ride through her career! Like I said before, this album is a big scary and exciting loop. Sorry for the mixed up un-structured-as-usual e-mail guys. But thats my two cents on everything in the past bit! Can't wait to see the whole intuition video!
