As list-owner this presented a number of problems. Why I did not post on this topic before this occurred is simply because I was way too busy with a move to a new residence, plus a family situation that dominated nearly 100% of my free time. Anyway, I am back. Good news? Bad news? I am not sure. ;-) Without access to my mikec@smoe.org account, this did present a problem for many subscribers to this list. All posts to the list end up in one of two places. One, obviously the list and all of its' subscribers. The other place is my mikec@smoe.org account's inbox. All "rejected" posts get delivered to me for approval. Rejections, also known as bounces, happen for one of three basic reasons: 1) The post was rejected because the email address is not subscribed to this list, nor the digest version, nor the news version. ONLY subscribers to one of those three versions of this list can openly post to the main list. Posts from all non-subscribed addresses get sent to me for approval. Now, where this comes into play for some of you is when you send in a post from another email address that you have that is not subscribed to the list(s). They bounce to me and have to wait until I get it and can approve it. This can take a while as many rejected posts are also from spammers. More than 90% of the posts from non-subscribed addresses are from spammers, so you can see that with my running over 30 mailing lists, this can add up. (by the way, for the 19 days of not having internet access, I had 5,287 emails waiting to download when I finally was able to log on today...and I use dial-up....ouch). 2) The post hit a listserve software (majordomo) administrative restriction, that prohibits posts that contain a form of certain administrative command words (i.e. list owner stuff). You'd be amazed at how many people send the one-word "unsubscribe" post to the list rather than the proper email address for unsubscribing. The problem is that the function also rejects any post that has "subscribe" or "subscribers" anywhere in the message. So any post that innocently mentions subscribers or methods of subscribing to another list gets rejected. 3) The post can get rejected if it hits a specific filter that I myself have installed. These filters are installed for a variety of reasons. Most that hit these are innocent and get sent on. About 3 dozen or so of these got nailed in the last 19 days, and I will take a look at them soon. Any that were rejected since last Friday will get sent on as will any that were "news-worthy". Also sent on will be most JeweLinks that contained important enough news. The main reason for sending on all of these news posts, even if "old" news, is that I like to have that information in the lists archives for future reference. "Normal" posts sent before last Friday will likely be discarded, but there may be some exceptions depending on what I see when I begin to read these posts. Any questions or comments, please feel free to reply :-) Mike - EDA list owner :-) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Apr 2003 17:38:42 -0500 From: twh662@juno.com Subject: Re: [EDA] Just saw Intuition video I programmed my DVD recorder beginning at 5:00am central time and there it was 16 minutes later. I've had the pleasure of seeing Jewel live four times. Do I think she is better live then in the studio? Usually yes. That's not really surprising tho, because that is the case with most musicians. I am a huge Jewel fan, just ask anyone who remotely knows me at all and they will probably list that as one of the major things that reminds them of me. On the same token, does that mean that I unquestionably love everything Jewel has ever produced? No. I really never and still really don't like 'Hands.' It was played so much, back when Spirit came out it was almost enough to make me start not wanting to be a Jewel fan. I really had mixed feelings about Spirit when I heard that Patrick Leonard was going to be the producer, just because when I think of his name, I think of Madonna, (since they worked together so heavily.) But I must say that beyond hands Spirit quickly become one of my favorite records. I'm also a pretty rabid Eric Clapton fan, but I do out and out hate one of his records, IMO. 'Slowhand' single handedly shows why a musician shouldn't take cocaine while recording a record. Yikes, that was coked out. But I'm still a big fan of Eric's. Jewel's music has helped me through some rough times in my life, honestly and that I will always remember. Honestly I think the last woman, I took to a Jewel show didn't want to go out again, because I started crying when Jewel played the first few chords to 'A Thousand Miles Away' I started crying, because that song meant a lot to my previous love interest and I. All I'm saying is, please at least listen to '0304' before you judge it. I was privately a huge doubter of Spirit due to the whole Patrick Leonard thing, but that for the most part I think turned out alright. I'd imagine it'd be really hard to turn in a bad record with that voice. Jewel could sing me happy birthday and I'd ramble on endlessly about until my coworkers invade my cube with crowbars and torches. It's about that voice, not about the cover art or whether it was a good use of Adobe Illustrator and QuarkXPress to produce 'that' cover. Just give the record an honest shot, before you determine it's fate, it might suck, but I seriously doubt it. I'm sure despite her cheery persona, Jewel has to deal with a lot of stuff everyday that she would rather not, and on the off chance she does decide to look over some of these posts, she doesn't need to hear us constantly berating a record that few if any of us have heard in full yet. I'm done. Mike The guy who cried before Jewel sang one word of 'A Thousand Miles Away' and freaked his date out. heh. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Apr 2003 16:05:43 -0700 From: "J W" Subject: Re: [EDA] Jewel on local radio >>she did say it's oh 3 oh 4, not zero 3 zero 4.<< grrr!!! just when i was used to calling it zero 3 zero 4. >:O - -the i hate the EDAs, angel- - --Jewel Worshiper-- http://www.angelfire.com/crazy/jk_worshipers/main.html (my Jewel Page) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jewel is GOD WWJD --- What Would Jewel Do "there's only one right way and it's my way" ~Jewel _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: advanced junk mail protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 26 Apr 2003 11:51:37 -0700 From: Paul Schreiber Subject: [EDA] regional EDA lists Ian wrote: > Ian, the angel who rarely posts. But the Jewel fans that were there had a blast! She sang a lot of new songs and a few classics. She seemed a little out of it... not really talking to the audience that much. I did meet some awesome EDA's, I wanna say WhAt Up to y'all!! We had so much fun. Especially Derrick, Courtney, Corey and I after the show. We all had a brilliant idea to go to the hotel we thought Jewel was staying at and it paid off. We all ended up hanging out with the ENTIRE band and some of the crew. I must say Mark is definitely a hottie (and a good kisser, hehe ;) Trey's a cutie too. The rest of the guys were really cool, t bone and Stuart talked the most. I'm pretty sure Ty was at the concert last night... perhaps Jewel and him are working things out.
