I'm a Creative Writing major and noticed a couple of things in the press release that could be tweaked. Here goes: Even before its official add date, the song is already on the air in a host of major markets, including New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Washington D.C., Charlotte, Atlanta, Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Houston, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Cleveland, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Sacramento, Seattle, and many others. ** There shouldn't be a comma between "markets and "including." Also, there doesn't need to be a comma after "Seattle." "Intuition" is the first track from Jewels forthcoming fifth album, entitled "0304." ** "Forthcoming fifth album" sounds strange and trips the tongue a little. Could "upcoming" or a different word be used? Jewel will perform "Intuition" live on national television for the first time when she appears on NBC-TVs Toyota Concert Series on Today on Friday, May 2nd. ** This is hard to swallow all at once. An easy fix would be to move a few words around: "... when she appears on NBC-TV's Toyota Concert Series, Friday, May 2nd, on Today." Since the release of her first album eight years ago, Jewel has continued to explore fresh avenues, branching out from her folk roots to incorporate rock, pop, country, blues, jazz, and classical influences into her work. ** This opening sentence isn't indented like the others in the release are (which may just be a typo). Also, the comma after "jazz" isn't needed. --- Just thought I'd offer my Editorial-Eyes for whatever they're worth! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DRAFT ONLY APRIL X, 2003 RADIO MOVES TO JEWELS NEW BEAT: "INTUITION" FEELS LIKE AN OUT-THE-BOX SMASH; NEW ALBUM, "0304," PREMIERES JUNE 3rd In its first week at radio stations, "Intuition," the new single from Atlantic recording artist Jewel, has been greeted with an instant, overwhelmingly positive reaction from coast to coast. Even before its official add date, the song is already on the air in a host of major markets, including New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Washington D.C., Charlotte, Atlanta, Tampa, Orlando, Miami, Houston, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Cleveland, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Sacramento, Seattle, and many others. Listeners across the country are calling their local stations with a flood of requests and praise for the song. "Intuition" is the first track from Jewels forthcoming fifth album, entitled "0304." Slated to be in stores on June 3rd, the album finds the multi-platinum singer/songwriter moving in new musical directions inspired by her burgeoning interest in modern dance beats and textures. The song was written and produced by Jewel and Cuban-American producer Lester Mendez (Shakira, Santana, Enrique Iglesias), who collaborated with her throughout the new album. A companion video for "Intuition," directed by Marc Klasfeld (Sum 41, Floetry, Vanessa Carlton, Nelly, Alien Ant Farm), is currently in production. Jewel will perform "Intuition" live on national television for the first time when she appears on NBC-TVs Toyota Concert Series on Today on Friday, May 2nd. A month later, on Monday, June 2nd, she will herald the arrival of "0304" with a special eve-of-release performance on NBC-TVs Tonight Show with Jay Leno. In other Jewel news, "Intuition" has also been chosen by Schick to be used as the music for a major national television advertising campaign to launch the companys new all-in-one shaver for women, also called Intuition. Jewel will perform "Intuition" live in a special concert at Schicks Intuitionfest 2003, taking place in New Yorks Central Park on Saturday, May 10th. Since the release of her first album eight years ago, Jewel has continued to explore fresh avenues, branching out from her folk roots to incorporate rock, pop, country, blues, jazz, and classical influences into her work. Each successive album has found her experimenting with new sounds and widening her artistic scope, while retaining her uniquely personal lyrical style and musical authenticity. Still in her twenties, Jewel enjoys a rare career longevity among her generation of artists. Her four previous albums have sold 25 million copies worldwide. # # # - --- You can help a friend subscribe by having them send a blank email to join-jewelink@list.jeweljk.com To view selected back issues of JeweLink, please visit the JeweLink Archive at the www.jeweljk.com calendar page. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 08 Apr 2003 19:45:45 -0500 From: "Sarah Dowling" Subject: [EDA] TakeTwo: Press Release comments Errr... LOL ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 09 Apr 2003 11:00:43 +1000 From: Stephen Hallowes Subject: [EDA] Jewel's new album Hey guys I'm not too fond of the album title either... but I came up with a pretty good explanation for it, I think. So I'm gonna post it here, since a lot of people sound kinda confused: Basically, Jewel has always been fond of referring to her albums as "snapshots" of a specific stage in her musical development. She always calls Pieces of You a snapshot of where she was musically at age 19 (very undeveloped and raw). 0304 just takes that idea and expands it to apply to space and time not just in Jewel's musical development, but also in the world. So, where Pieces of You was a snapshot of Jewel without real reference to a point in history, 0304 is a snapshot of Jewel with a very specific and particular cultural backdrop. Let me try and explain it better...... 2003-2004 is going to be a particularly significant period in terms of history. The whole war in Iraq (who knows what country the US will blow up next) combined with the "war on terrorism" and the consequences that both those things are going to bring to the world and to America are going to be related to this particular period in history. I think Jewel is trying to relate the album to that historical perspective or context. So, she's saying the music really needs to be listened to with this specific period of time in mind. It's like art - when you look at a painting from a particular era, it really helps to understand the political and social machinations that helped to shape the social landscape of that era. Otherwise it's just another picture of ... some chick, or some landscape. But with a social perspective it becomes a lot more than that. See what I'm saying? Anyway... I think it's a neat concept, but I wish Jewel could've come up with better words to express it. My idea for an title came from constantly seeing TBD on the amazon.com site. See, I think she should call it "To Be Disclosed", because album titles are supposed to encapsulate the feeling of an album, right? So this title is like saying "the feeling of this album will be disclosed to you when you listen to the goddamn album you lazy bastard!"... :) Very silly I know. Jewel right - album titles are hard. At least she can't be accused of it being "too commercial". In fact it's the artiest title she's ever given one of her album. That's the only thing I like about it. Steve. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 09 Apr 2003 11:10:17 +1000 From: Stephen Hallowes Subject: [EDA] Jewel Most Added at Hot AC Well, not surprisingly, Jewel was Most Added at Hot AC this week with 41 adds for Intuition. That's *incredibly* good, even for Jewel (Hot AC is her core format). Last week's most added (train - which is also going to be a mega hit) only got 21 adds... so comparatively speaking it's very high. Don't know about Pop radio yet. I have a sneaking suspicion she'll be Most Added there as well, but we're gonna have to wait and find out about that. I'll keep you posted. :) Steve. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Apr 2003 22:21:34 EDT From: KiwiLindes83@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Tickets for sale, Southlake Townsquare Arts Festival!
