HELP! haha Charlie the DESPATE angel From: NeOblCar@aol.com To: jewel@smoe.org Subject: [EDA] AOL first listen is out there Date: Mon, 31 Mar 2003 00:08:42 EST I just happened to notice that if you do a search on Kazaa for "Jewel - Intuition (AOL Single)" you should find the whole song. Keep in mind that on first listen stuff AOL puts this annoying "AOL first listen" tag into the song a few times. That is ok ... at least it is the whole song. Remember if you don't put the (AOL Single) part on you'll get seacrh results for the spoof copy that the RIAA floated out there. _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: smart spam protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 31 Mar 2003 00:21:31 EST From: GroovGerLC@aol.com Subject: Re: [EDA] AOL first listen is out there Go to aol keyword first listen. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 31 Mar 2003 00:36:01 -0500 From: GWJewelGrL@aol.com Subject: [EDA] Intuition/ my AOL listen and review Well, I listened to it 3 times in order to get my feelings straight before i made my judgement. I'm sure I'll be torn apart for this, but honestly I'm upset and a bit disappointed. Now, I love trance music/club music. And in fact, I loved the remixes of Serve the Ego, especially the Hami Num one. I actually liked the remix better than the original song. So, I was looking forward to the album and especially this song having more of that sord of feel to it. When I first heard the clips of the song that were on michiel's website and on Kazaa, I was content with it. I liked the accordian sound, and I heard the guitar, and Jewel, and thought it sounded like some of the rockier stuff from This Way (which I like) just with a bigger beat. I was enjoying it. However, when I listened to the full song on AOL, I was really disappointed. I felt like the chorus and all the extra things in the song, and strange things they did with her voice, completely detracted from what makes Jewel an incredible artist, and what makes her so unique, her amazing and powerful voice. Instead, the extra effects mask it a bit, like they do on artists who don't sing that well, so that they can make them sound better or tune the ear to something else. This song is not club music, this song is pop. Now, there's nothing wrong with pop per say, and a lot of Jewel songs are poppy. But when I heard this song, I heard Nsync beats. I didn't hear Jewel. I heard J. Lo; I heard Britney Spears. I understand what Jewel was saying about wanting to make a dancy, upbeat feel, to symbolize the idea of big band in the 40s. But this has a much more radio friendly feel than a dance friendly one. I also can't picture Jewel touring with this song. When I envision her playing it, I see arena tours with fireworks, lasers, and backup dancers. And to me, that's not a special concert. That's a carnival event. They are fun to go to every now and then. Hell, I can say that I have been to a Britney Spears concert and a Limp Bizkit concert and had some fun. But, I wouldn't fly across the country to see that show after I had seen it in my home town, because it's not unique or special. I have done that for Jewel shows, because they are unique and special, and somewhat intimate. Jewel at her best, getting the crowd to be enamored with her, because of her music, her voice, and of course her wit. I love Jewel as an artist, and believe me, I'm not going to give up on her or the next album because of one song. I didn't like standing still that much when I first heard it, and I love This Way as an album. I think the New Wild West is one of her greatest songs, and i love the musical accompaniment and beat on the CD. As a lot of people have said, experimentation can be a great thing. Especially if it is for the right reasons. Jewel seems to be doing it for the right reasons, and I'm sure from here she'll grow and experiment some more depending on the response and her response. I'd like to hear what everyone else thought. I just listened to Intuition about 10 times trying to find a Piece of Jewel in the song. I am in shock right now. I was excited to hear the full song after hearing the clip. I Love jewel but guys this is bad. I know she is experimenting and if you like this kind of music then i guess you will dig the song and you wont be too upset about it but i guess im just not into that scene and the fact that jewel is melting into it is so disappointing. its not just so so. it is complete crap and i dont think i would like it even if it was sung by someone that i expect this kind of "music" from. i wish i could describe it better for those of you who are unable to listen to it but you will hear it soon enough on the radio maybe....
