IN other wirfds--I RESPECTED JEWEL when she came out---I am not sure I respect her anymore--THSI CD will give me the answer. When her boyfriend, champion bull rider Ty Murray, quit the rodeo circuit last October, pop star Jewel serenaded him at a Las Vegas retirement party with "Till We Run Out of Road," a song the pair cowrote. "Ty is a stand-up guy who says what he means and does what he says," she told guests at the Caesars Palace bash. "He's earned the title of hero, especially to me." Now it appears their road has come to an end. "Jewel and I broke up last week," confirms Murray, 33. "We've been together five years, and both of us decided to break up for the best." After meeting the Arizona-born "King of the Cowboys" - Murray has lassoed more than $3 million in competitions - - at a 1998 rodeo, Alaska-reared Jewel, 28, invited him to one of her concerts, where they hit it off. She often spent time at Murray's Texas ranch, where she suffered a broken collarbone and rib last year after being thrown from a wild colt. No hard feelings, apparently. "We're still good friends, great friends actually," says Murray. "We talk on the phone every day." It's never a good thing to break up, I mean, you can't be totally ok just after a split (or can you?). I hope they are still friends indeed and that it was the best thing to do. hmm... I'm kinda sad. I apologise in advance for what comes next, but my comments are fuelled by the alcohol I have been drinking and the fact I well known for becoming slightly philosophical when inebriated........... ....Although I wish Jewel the utmost best with her forthcoming single and album releases I have to say I'm an old school Jewel fan who is feeling a bit disappointed in what I am expecting to hear from Jewel in the upcoming months. It's Saturday night (8:45pm to be exact) and I have just been revisiting the JewelStock tapes for the first time in at least four months. Everytime I listen to them I am reminded of just how talented a singer/songwriter/performer Jewel is. The fact recently she feels she has had to team up with the likes of Linda Perry and Lester Mendez to further her musical career concerns me greatly and I truly believe she is beginning to forget how & why she got into this business. I'm going to be condemned for saying this but I think she has been spending way too much time with the record label execs and that they have convinced her that "pop" is the acceptable route to take. Having been an EDA from the very beginning I feel saddened seeing her take the quick buck (to coin an American fraze), sexy outfit route of winning record sales. With the right record label and PR team behind her I think she could blow 99% of the mainstream artists of today out of the water. My only hope is that when her current contact with Atlantic is up she doesn't renew and goes to work with a label who would be focused on nurturing her (so far) untapped raw talent. I love Jewel just as much as the rest of you, I just feel she is undervaluing herself. I don't know which EDA said it, but it's true she used to have a good old laugh at the "industry" and the fact so many dance/pop/manufactured artists ruled the music business. I think when she started out she was trying to change that trend........ I just hope in the current climate she doesn't give up or forget that goal............................. Actually, I agree with you. The same thing has happened to many of my favorite musicians. I think it was great that Jewel went on her solo tour [I didn't get to see her] and I hope she takes that route more often. For example, Ani Difranco is now touring all by herself, without the band, to get back to her 'roots.' And I think that's really important in that industry, because more often than not, most get lost. I'm curious to hear Jewel's new sound, though. Hey guys Not sure how many of you remember... but when This Way was released, I was a bit of a "Radio man" for the EDAs... giving you info on how Standing Still was doing spins-wise etc.... With Intuition impacting in just over a week, I thought I should take that role back on! The single hasn't actually been delivered to radio stations officially yet... so obviously there aren't any spins happening YET. But I can tell you that I've just confirmed that the song is impacting Hot AC radio (Jewel's base format) on April 7th, and Mainstream Top 40 (a format Jewel would really love to get a hit on!) on April 8th. A lot of people were wondering if it *would* be released to pop radio (mainstream top 40)... and I can tell you that it definitely is! I'll be able to tell you around the middle of that week how many "adds" (the word for when a radio station adds the song to their playlist) the song actually got... That's about it so far. We should start seeing some spins/feedback from radio stations sometime next week once the single is actually delivered. The quote that Fabio posted (where the guy talked about Atlantic saying "the empire is about to strike back!") is an example of what I mean. That person must have a leaked version of the song. Basically, radio stations forward comments like that about songs that they have "discovered". It's only ever a positive thing. I'm hoping to see a lot more of that next week! cya Steve. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Mar 2003 23:18:40 EST From: Jenjk128@aol.com Subject: [EDA] People Magazine I was flipping through People in the check out line, and there was a short article about Jewel and Ty's break up. Of course, she saw that club music is hot. But think with me: if she likes dance music and hip hop, but never had the opportunity to play with it, why not do it now while it's hot? It's not that she's selling out, it's ridiculous. She's just catching the wave and doing something she wants and likes and is proud of, and it is the perfect timing. She has a lot of balls because it's not easy to change her image, cause it's VERY stablished already. I do think Intuition will be a slow hit, because people will not be used to hear such a different sound from Jewel (although I haven't heard the song). It'll take a while to catch on, I think. >> I truly believe she is beginning to forget how & why she got into this business. She got into this business doing what she loved and was proud of.
